Zach Lewis Article - Skyhook Cutaways
diablopilot replied to Emu's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The the result of line twists or not on a reserve deployment has *nothing*, read that again *nothing* to do with whether the rig is equipped with an RSL or MARD of any type. Zero, zilch, nadda. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
And there's your problem..... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Things to think about when doing Helicopter jump...
diablopilot replied to shorehambeach's topic in Safety and Training
That's pretty bad, but the biggest mistake made is getting in a Robinson in the first place. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Two. AAD's and simplicity of training. One applies to reserves, and the other is lazy instruction. Let's teach skydivers, not joy rides. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Two Out - Downplane Scenario
diablopilot replied to MakeItHappen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have had a two out scenario and I knew immediately what it was, however I see your point about it being a bit unique. Just throwing this out there, but in my mind, say I DON'T immediately know, my flow chart of malfunctions is going to go to the breakaway and deploy a reserve limb when the main canopy does not pass a canopy control check (square with slider down, stable, and steerable). ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Longmont City Council will take up skydiving noise
diablopilot replied to stratostar's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's just mean. You know what is costs to maintain and operate those things when the ARE working?! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
To anyone reading this: If you don't get the myriad of failure modes just described, or why an AAD does not in any way substitute for either an RSL or HUMAN REACTION TO A PROBLEM, please go learn more about gear before you jump again. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Overweight, Elderly, Uncurrent Skydiver
diablopilot replied to skydived19006's topic in Safety and Training
At the end of the day, it's your DZ, your business, and your liability to protect. Your decision on safety and comfort level trumps his, and no one else will be standing up next to you in the courtroom when his family brings a lawsuit. I support your right to make such a decision, and would suggest a simple "I'm not willing to accept the risks involved with you making a solo jump at my DZ." be plenty good enough to get the message across. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Proposed Amendment of BSR concerning TI Medical
diablopilot replied to fencebuster's topic in Tandem Skydiving
The USPA does not regulate your business, you are free to do as you wish, just not under the auspices of a USPA dropzone, USPA rating holders, or as USPA members. If you want the benefits of any of those three classes, then play ball by the rules. Or take your ball and start your own game. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
I cheat by not getting on the aircraft. I wonder what the pilot would say when you tell him he can't use a belt if you can't? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
-
Disagree. Not all skydiver seat belt restraints are designed to go around the waist like a lap belt. Many are designed to go through the harness of the parachute system the jumper is wearing. Using them in a manner other than intended is not acceptable. If the wing suit prevents proper use, then the SUIT is the problem. Simply unzip the suit far enough to access the harness. Or don't get on the aircraft with incompatible gear. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
-
In the states, a better question might be "Does your jump pilot require seatbelt use?" ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

The handles with the "metal pipe" inside are the only "soft" pad style handles I'll jump anymore. The are very easy to grip and they are the only design that I trust the cable (breakaway or reserve) attachment strength. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
-
Simple as stated: BOC stands for "Bottom of container" as seen when wearing the rig. It often is used to describe the location of the main deployment handle, though it does not describe the type of deployment method. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Jumping while a jumper "missing".
diablopilot replied to GLIDEANGLE's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Addressing this point specifically, I've in the past made it mandatory for all wingsuiters jumping from my aircraft to carry a cell phone. Repeated out landings from the same individuals should result in groundings and retraining. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Rich Winstock Swoop Incident Cover-Up

Point of information, the Committee Chairperson positions are not an election, but rather an appointment by the President of the USPA Board of Directors. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
You don't need them but they do make a difference. Meh.... To be more accurate makes up or sloppy packing and slider control. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Master or Serior ticket to make a repair?

It's mostly a one woman operation. Knowing how long the owner has been in this sport, not to mention her family, I would have no problem ordering from Firefly and in fact have sold a number of their suits in the past. I would not however expect that it be produced fast. As with any piece of gear custom ordered in this sport the buyer should take the responsibility of obtaining a quote of not only the price but the production time and make decisions accordingly. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. I'm sure there are plenty younger than me, But I'm 26 and starting doing tandems at 23. Some 500 +/- in that time. The others at the dz are upper 40's and I'll tell ya what, I don't know where they get their energy. I started at 26 and I'll be 40 this year. 8500+ tandems, and I'll tell you this, you learn about doing thing efficiently. "Work smarter, not harder" really becomes a mantra. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Because no one has ever seen a horseshoe malfunction or a PC in tow, right? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

BASE jumpers use far more deployment styles than throwout, and there is no comparison. If you want to make another silly analogy, your skydiving reserve is much closer to a pull out than a throw out. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
-
With more than 5000 pull out jumps under my belt, I would suggest that anyone having the above problems should change their techniques. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
