  1. I've been sitting here with money to spend and a completed order form for about a week now, but I can't get a hold of anyone to figure out how to submit my order and pay for it. Does anyone here have any connections with Firefly that could tell me if they are on a hiatus or something? Or maybe there is another way to do this that I am missing from phone and email? Any info would help. Then I can decide if I should keep waiting or just go with someone else.
  2. Do you really think its a good idea to ask an internet forum for medical advice?? If you hurt yourself, its not a skydiving topic. Go to the doctor if you think it requires medical attention. Only you can make that decision.
  3. Judging by the number of carbon lids you see on a DZ with bits of gaffa tape and glue holding all the cracks together, I'd say the brittleness of carbon is a significant disadvantage. This is usually due to the matrix around the carbon fiber oxidizing quickly in the hot and sunny conditions most people skydive in. A new carbon fiber helmet will be awesome. But as it gets brittle and old over the years, you will definitely lose some protection. As far as this whole thread, still not sure if serious -_- 100mpgs?
  4. It really depends on pack volume of the canopy. For example in that container you would be able to fit a bigger, small pack volume canopy, like a Triathlon or Spectre. But then you would just as safely be able to fit a smaller, large pack volume canopy, like a Pilot or Sabre 2.
  5. I did 1 tandem + 10 min in the wind tunnel before AFF, and am very glad I did. If you don't want/need to do the tandems before AFF, I would really recommend a few minutes of wind tunnel time. You can get an idea of what the arch you are going to need to do feels like. And you'll be much more prepared to be stable and relaxed once you leave the plane, rather than figuring it out on the way down.
  6. This thread is hilarious. It reminds me of the internet arguments in freeskiing where people fight about if a trick was a rodeo, flat, misty, or bio rotation. Because it is so important to figure it out! All I know is that this looks like a lot of fun, and I want to learn how to jump out of the plane and do this:
  7. Andrew Cooper at Salt Lake Regional is pretty well known for shoulder and knee injuries. I went to him once for a knee diagnosis and just ended up with a torn MCL. He can be booked out a couple weeks sometimes due to his popularity though. I broke my collar bone a couple weeks ago, and since Cooper was too booked, they recommended me to see Mark Scholl, who is also associated with SL Regional. I got in for my surgery very quickly and everything went amazingly well. No complaints at all. He looks to be pretty specialized in knees as well. You can take a look at his site here. http://www.schollsportsortho.com/
  8. They go over everything a lot with you in your First Free Fall ground class. Also, you will have a radio to be able to listen to you instructor telling you when to flair, etc. Just stay aware of your surroundings, and it really isn't bad.
  9. That seems like it could work in an ideal situation, but under less than perfect circumstances when you want to get away from your main as quickly as possible, the weight belt would slow the main down as it leaves your body. Also, in a crazy cutaway you would not want to take a weight to the head and possibly get knocked out. It is a good idea to try and be under a lower wing loading for your reserve, but I guess that is a risk you should be willing to take when you strap a weight belt on in the first place.
  10. Does that container have any bridal exposure???
  11. Yay for unnecessary danger! This one didn't go as planned http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kL-ghG7qXro
