Unfortunately the modus operandi for checkpoints is to blast any unidentified vehicle coming at you at high speed. You can thank suicide car bombers for that. Don't blame the troops. Very unfortunate.

We may be getting very close (Hibbert's Peak)

Yep, it's too late. We'll be fighting wars over the supply to keep oil cheap enough not to send our economy into mass chaos. But regardless it will be rough, due to the global effects. This scenario has been planned for, for many years and we (USA) will most likely 'win' (but no guarantees). Good thing we are in Iraq. Want to eat? Support our troops! Want to be rich (because only we will have cheap oil), while the rest of the world starves? Support our troops! Want to keep driving your gas-guzzling whale-skin lined Hummer and eat f*cking 70oz steaks for only 10 dollars? Support our troops! /proud supporter -
Yeah, we need to start yesterday on that! But, in the worst case, don't forget to invest in good commodities so you'll be rich while everyone else is starving to death becuase a loaf of bread costs 50$ since the semi used to transport it spends hundreds of dollars in fuel for delivery. Someday the news will say Oil prices pass 175$ a barrel. I'm normally not this pessmistic but this is speakers corner.

I fear you're wrong. I think we do need Middle Eastern oil. I've heard that it would take most of africa growing for biodiesel to meet our future needs. (not to mention the cost) See: Biodiesel = Disaster We need our crops to feed people, not machines!!! From the article: "it is to happen worldwide, then most of the arable surface of the planet will be deployed to produce food for cars, not people." Not to mention the fact that cars are only a small portion of what petrochemicals are used for. Plus, even if we could grow enough for biodiesel, what will it matter when it still costs 7+ dollars a gallon due to cost? It will f*ck us over economically. War is most likely the only option.

I agree. But at least once the middle east is dry, the terrorism threat will be over, if you know what I mean. Not that I blame the US, because the alternative is a collapse that will make the great depression look like the peak of the dot com boom. "The spice must flow"

Judge: Either charge terror suspect or let him free

Yeah, I agree too. I'm all for doing what it takes to defense the country, but if we are not mortally threatened (meaning all morals go out the window b/c we will be destroyed if we don't do WHATEVER it takes to win, and Darwin favors the victor, not the valiant), then the inherent civil rights of people must be respected. It's ridiculous what they are doing in the name of 'terrorism defense'! It's becoming the definitive excuse to mow down our rights! -
The following statement is not directed at anyone in particular, but related this post: It's going to be interesting to see who changes their morality when gas is 10 dollars a gallon (due to supply not being able to keep up with demand b/c of China, India, and other massively industrializing nations in a decade or two) and all hell breaks loose. (hopefully this really doesn't happen, but it could) There won't be too many people opposed to an unjust oil grab then. Or true torture (as opposed to what Rumsfeld approved) of those fighting us for it. Being moral is easy when it doesn't cost anything. Would you be willing to allow another Sept. 11 size attack, and your wife or husband killed in the result, so that Joe Queda Prisoner can get a full nights sleep and a cookie under his pillow? Just a thought.

I'd reply seriously, but it wouldn't be socially acceptable. You're supposed to say something funny, right?

Based on normality for me, you're one of those 'crazy-ass personalities'. And hilarious too, thanks for the laugh. Funny post!

Yes, Raistlin, I feel the same way as Muenkel. I really wish I had the opportunity to know Josh personally, but I hold what part of him I understand close to my heart. He was a beautiful soul, precious in his impermanence, and this world is at a loss with him gone.
