Thanks! Found a thread there that answered my question perfectly!

Thanks for the info. Do you by chance know what the upgrades from Neptune to Neptune 2 are?
-
I checked the gear reviews and searched the forums, but couldn't find an exact answer to my question. I'm looking for a digital altimeter to use as a visual (very happy with my Protrack as an audible). I'm mainly looking at Neptune 2s, but I was wondering what the difference is between it and the original Neptune. I saw one thread saying that if you update the firmware, they are essentially the same unit, so does this mean all the hardware and capabilities are the same? Thanks. Edit: My main reasons for a new altimeter are 1) I'm anticipating doing a lot of wingsuiting in the future and the protrack has the freefall limit and 2) I'd like something more accurate and with canopy alarms So I guess my main question is would there be any significant difference in which unit I purchase in regards to the things I'd like to use it for?

Still camera selection (my brain is melting)
dontsplatmatt replied to realpet's topic in Photography and Video
I met a guy that uses a Sony Cybershot for tandems. It isn't compatible with a bite switch or anything, so he just uses one hand to take pictures. To an untrained eye like mine, the quality looks pretty good, and I bet his neck thanks him for it. -
I don't know the exact % off either, but with the military discount a new Vigil is just under $1000. I've found that most skydiving companies offer great discounts for service members. It can't hurt to ask and it can save ya a lot of money.

So newer ones don't have this limitation?

Hackey/Bridle issues... WAS Cold Weather..
dontsplatmatt replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Gotcha. So my monkey fist looks like a kind of middle ground as far as risk. It has two attachment points (the piece of tape is routed through the monkey fist) but it is not completely sewn down so there is still a slight risk of it hooking. Sounds like it might be a good idea to get a freefly handle. -

I didn't understand what you guys were talking about so I searched a bit and read some other threads, but I'm still not completely clear. I get that a heavy handle moves slower than the pilot chute and bridle and as it catches up the bridle can loop around it and knot itself. I still don't understand what single attachment point means and how it contributes to this though. Thanks, Matt -
A ton of people at Skyventure in Denver fly Vertical Suits. I'm not too knowledgeable about tunnel suits, but it seems like the main characteristics sought after are great durability and lots of lift. I don't own a Vertical Suit, but I've flown them for about an hour and a half in the tunnel and they seem solid. They are made of very durable fabric and have multiple seams to help hold together. They also have zipper covers to keep the zippers done. I also know a couple people who fly the Tony Suit Space Suit both in the tunnel and in the sky and love it. It feels less durable to me, but seems to be holding up well for them.

+1 for Mile Hi. Good planes and great fun jump crowd. Staff isn't the friendliest of any dz, but all in all it's a good place.

wait... "god" is supposed to be capitalized?
dontsplatmatt replied to Calvin19's topic in Speakers Corner
True from one perspective. But from another perspective one realizes that the only lasting thing we will ever have in this life is God's Love. Everything else is temporal. When someone or something wonderful enters our life we can thank God for the gift, when they leave we thank God for the time we had together. No rationalization required. And should your kids also thank "god" for the time they had here as they writhe around on the pavement in excruciating pain caused by his master plan? -
I'm not an instructor, but that seems like a waste of precious altitude for anyone not just a student. The chance of preventing something by doing that doesn't seem to outweigh the lost altitude.
-
Hopefully my P2 arrives before the 9th! If not, I'll have to come out and try to get in one of the Tony Suits for my first flight.

A handfull is a tiny fraction of the entire Muslim population. -
Sorry to disappoint, but it will never happen because I never have bad arguments . I'll let you know when it happens to my opponents though.
-
Apparently you completely missed my sarcasm and reference to Step Brothers.
-
That's cute. I remember my first time realizing that my argument was terrible and instead resorting to attacking people personally. When, in your last 36 ONLY 36 posts, did you have this epiphany? Oh sorry I forgot. I don't have the posts (or jump numbers for that matter) to state my opinion in these forums.

Anyone freeflying a Dolphin container?
dontsplatmatt replied to Bodhisattva420's topic in Freeflying
Your not welcome... I'm not sure why all of you are so mean. The OP asked a question so just give him an answer and move on.....or just forget it......Geeezus You chiming in uncalled for doesnt help the situation...or snookie I don't know what your problem is, but you need to chill out, bro. If anyone is "chiming in uncalled for" it's you who came in here with an attitude right off the bat. Anyway, I have a friend who got the mods done to his dolphin and freeflies it pretty often. It doesn't look ideal to me, but it does work for him. -
That atrocious piece of fiction does not and will not ever make sense. Read a bit closer and without bias, and you will see that the "author" is "jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.”

I realize you're just trying to have fun with this, but at least contribute something productive to the conversation. These little snide remarks don't do anything. No one in here suggested that ALL religious people are evil. Religion is just the root of a large percentage of the world's violence.
-
I don't know. Your skydiving circle of friends is much larger than mine, so you'd be better off asking them yourself. If you're asking if I know anyone that believes that then yes. After growing up in southern Baptist churches I've met many people like that. The Socratic method does not consist of one person who knows more than everyone else sitting in a corner hiding evidence from them and forcing them to rely on faith and acceptance. And I didn't say either of those actions are evil. I said that doing them to hide the answers and then punishing your students for getting it wrong is evil. The difference is that I am not omnipotent, I am not all good and I did not inflict them with the disease. This in no way means that all the world's problems stem from religion nor does it mean that getting rid of religion will solve all the world's problems.
-
Yes if I taught them nothing and instead used riddles to force them to rely on leaps of faith and just accept answers. And keeping someone out of college is a bit less extreme than forcing them to live with an excruciatingly painful, incurable disease. You are putting words in my mouth. I never said that ending religion would end all the world's issues. I said it would make the world better. There are a variety of reasons why people do bad things. Religion is a significant one. If it doesn't benefit humanity and often causes suffering, there is no point in keeping it around.

I have a very good understanding of Christianity. I know more about it than many Christians who I participate in theological discussions with. I won't comment on anyone in these forums because it is difficult to estimate a person's intelligence from a few online posts, but I'm not religiously uninformed by any means. Nothing I've said is untrue. You may be the exception, but many Christians do believe god is perfect. Many do consider the Bible to be his infallible word.
