Wondering what it takes to get a DC-3 started
WFFC replied to Tweek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Where is the plane going to be based? The WFFC is in Rantoul, Illinois. Dates for this year are August 5-14 2005. ----- ~~~Michael -
Haven't seen it, so I'm going out on a limb here....but was it inspired by the legend of camelot? in the extras they said that there was really not much known about king arthur prior to him being king. They went with an idea that he and the knights were slave warriors to the romans and he came into his role when rome was on the downfall. Interesting view in my opinion. ----- ~~~Michael

She's running Windows ME as stated above. Lisa - With windows ME since the whole thing was so buggy anyway, the best option is to install win2k or XP on a secondary hard drive. Use the current as a slave to get any data files off. When done, wipe the old drive clean. If you need access to the above mentioned options, let me know. ----- ~~~Michael

Cool. Let me know. ----- ~~~Michael

Not a big deal

Watch the extras and get the idea where they came up with the story. I was pretty cool. ----- ~~~Michael

We'll actually be at the Inn at the Ballpark on the corner of Texas Avenue and Crawford Street. Thanx for the recommendations. Others were politely ignored - you know who you are... ----- ~~~Michael

Riddler and I will be in Houston for work a couple days next week and we're looking for Sushi recommendations. We'll be staying across the street from Minute Maid Park so anything downtown would be helpful. Thanx! ----- ~~~Michael

If Chris gets a 'check' as payment, and uses his rig to secure such payment, it's a business policy that he'll need. Not sure I entirely understand how he gets compensated with nothing but claims as income? ----- ~~~Michael

Skyride will screw themselves up on their own behalf. Patience... ----- ~~~Michael

What can we do about Skyride?

Trust me...it's alive... -
Yes (example - Tandem Master/Vidiot/AFF I) Note: The IRS will allow a business to write off up to $100,000 (I think this changes to $125k in '05, but check with your tax advisor) in business expenses without having to justify the expense. Business expenses include: computers, cameras, canopies, altimeters, whatever. Correct (example - manifest staff) right again - Example would be a club where the JM gets compensated with a free jump. There is a big distinction between getting a free jump (donating your time) and getting $25-$35 for the jump (part/fulltime employment) Not exactly. The business owner writes the independent contractor (IC) a check to the IC's company (in my case, GP, LTD), then the business owner (DZO) does not need to submit a 1099 Misc to the IRS - It's a line item expense in the accounting records. Business owner (DZO) retains the tax ID of the company he paid for services rendered. And actually, I don't think the business owner needs to retain the tax ID, just the check record that he payed XYZ, Inc. No reporting to the IRS is needed as long as the accounting records are good. The IC's company has payroll or otherwise and reports the income info as paid out by the company to the employee of said IC's company. (I may have to rewrite this if it doesn't make sense) If the check is written directly the the IC (say Mary S. and not Mary S. Inc.), then the business owner gets your SS# and submits a 1099 misc to the IRS. Correct, this is how Jeff did it when we worked at the DZ. ----- ~~~Michael

Me thinks this thread is starting to be hijacked. Should be polite and start another... I'm still wanting to ground launch my canopy off A-Basin at some point. Will wait till I get settled and then go for it from there. ----- ~~~Michael

in the early days of spamming, i replied to a guy and basically said spam me again and I'll take your mail server down. He responded with simply "I'd like to see you try." According to my attorney at the time, that statement gave me full permission to try. Took me about 18 hours, but he was offline for about a week. The legalities after the fact? I sent a polite letter to this guys attorney advising that his client gave me permission to try to take him down. Never heard from them again. I just still wish I had the software that I did that with. I was so friggin cool. ----- ~~~Michael

Separte kind of insurance in most cases then. If you're using the equipment for enjoyment (e.g. not making money), than it would generally be covered, just make sure to ask. If you're using th equipment to make money (e.g. put food in your mouth) then you'll have to take out a business policy which can be more expensive. ----- ~~~Michael

Wondering what it takes to get a DC-3 started
WFFC replied to Tweek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No, it was there in 2003. We found a DC3 closer to Rantoul for this year (2004) but they were a bit wacked on how much they wanted to charge for slots. Let me rephrase, mentally wacked. ----- ~~~Michael -

From the boogie perspective, the DC3 at the WFFC did much better when the slots were the same as a turbine. When it was more, it didn't fly much. ----- ~~~Michael -
When? ----- ~~~Michael

Nah...that leaves a paper trail. ----- ~~~Michael

I wanna go!!! ----- ~~~Michael

Not actually one (1). It's two policies, just with the same insurance carrier. And, they'll generally give you a discount if on both if you have multiple policies. Last renters policy I had was tied to my car insurance. After discounts on both, the renters was $35 more a year for $40k coverage. ----- ~~~Michael

Careful, don't rain on Mary's parade now... ----- ~~~Michael

Do some research on why you get headaches with cheap wine. You'll definitely change your mind on the cheap, mass produced stuff when you find your answer. ----- ~~~Michael

Nope...people are too damn gullible. ----- ~~~Michael

yes, but they were underinsured. (Note: this did not cover staff gear, only student/tandem, DZ owned, gear.) Edit to add: Don't forget about Lake Wales with their hangar too. I don't think I ever saw a straight answer as to whether they (the DZ) was insured or underinsured. ----- ~~~Michael
