    Fighting Spam

better solution...get your own webserver and tweak the mail filter rules on the box. Went from 800+ spams a day to 6 in one day...All the good emails appear to be getting through so I guess I did it right... ----- ~~~Michael
  3. URL? Pretty sure it's not this one: www.skyteam.com
  4. Nope...Here's another way to look at it too, if it comes down to paying your Visa or your power bill (which you'll have the funds to pay one now, one next week), which one reports to the credit bureau? Pay the Visa and catch the power bill up next week.
  5. So...how many computers do you have under your roof? This would be systems that you personally own and not the company laptop. Include the kids, the significant other, etc. Be honest...how much of a geek are you? Me? I've got 6 (5 in my office, T has the other one downstairs) 2 laptops, 3 desktops, and a Sony appliance computer machine (compact 15" LCD and wireless everything). ----- ~~~Michael

    baby squirrel-

I couldn't find my zoom lens, but one of the neighborhood tomcats found a field mouse in the back yard. He played (read:tortured) it for several hours until he disappeared with it. ----- ~~~Michael
  7. If you have a collection on your record, it doesn't have to come off, even if paid. If you're gonna pay it and want it to come off, make sure you get a letter that says when I pay, you (bill collector) agree to remove this from my credit report. At that point, it would be up to the agency you're paying as to what to do with it. The one thing they have to report is its status (e.g. Collection Account - Paid, Charged, Off, etc.) You can have multiple collection items for the same thing too - these will be reported as Collection Accounts, but listed as Transferred or Sold (or something, can't recall the verbage) Judgements generally stay on your bureau for 10 years. If you've got credit issues, 1. fix it. 2. Once #1 is done, use the power of the Fair Credit Reporting Act to your advantage. Dispute negative items on your report. 3. If you've got bills, pay them early, or at the latest, on time. 4. Figure out how you got the nasty credit and fix it. While not an expert in this category, I will say that I know a bit more than most. Interesting tidbits: Want a new car? Running the credit report will ding your fico score 12 points. If you're shopping for a new car, do it all within a couple weeks as the various reports that are pulled while you are shopping will only count as one hit. Try not to get your revolving balances (credit cards) above 35% of your credit limit Credit bureaus don't care if you paid more than the minimum (it helps to drop your bill though), they care if you paid on time or not. If you have a credit card and you DON'T use it your credit scores may go down. If you pay an installment loan off early your credit scores may go down Never buy your scores from Experian or Transunion - it's not really your FICO score (go to myfico.com - The people who created the FICO score) Your FICO doesn't like finance companies (like Household Finance). ----- ~~~Michael
  8. translates as COLD Dude you are so confused. In January, I've skied in 8" of fresh power in the A.M. and play 9 holes of golf that same afternoon in shorts. Colorado weather is weird. There are 2 DZs in Fremont. Skydive the Rockies and avoid the other one. I haven't jumped at SDTR, but trust me on avoiding the other place. ----- ~~~Michael

  13. Once on your report it's there for 7 years, 10 if it's a bankruptcy. Most believe that once it's on your report it's there for good...WRONG-o...If you want some boring reading, read the Fair Credit Reporting Act (Go to http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcrajump.htm and click on the Fair Credit Reporting Act link to download a PDF version). Simply put, if you write a well stated dispute letter to the credit bureau and if they think your dispute is valid, they'll pass the request on for an investigation. Once the investigation is started, the reporter of the item in dispute (for example: Citibank) has 30 days to respond. If there is no response in the 30 days, the credit bureau by law is obligated to remove the disputed item from your report. Granted, if the disputed item is returned after the 30 days, the credit bureau can readd the item back to your report but they still need to advise you via letter that they did. ----- ~~~Michael
  14. Generally yes. but...if they can't immediately find you, they'll toss it on the back burner, add to your credit report. When you go to buy a house it will pop up and then it's your deal to find the collection agency and resolve. if the store went under (bankruptcy?), it's possible to still locate the owners/creditors and return the video/game. One thing in life to consider is karma. Make the effort to do good on the late fee if you can now. You may very well be told to forget it and nothing will happen (note: document name, date, etc. - toss in a file for later). If you don't make the effort, Karma says it's gonna bite hard at some point when you don't need this on your cr. report. ----- ~~~Michael
  15. By default, no. But if you don't pay your late fees the can (by terms of the rental agreement) port your late charge off to a collection agency which does have the right to place on your credit report. In this type of instance (medical collections can be the same), the collection agency will threaten to put it on your report. If you owe and you pay, it means less work for them since they don't have to put it on your bureau. ----- ~~~Michael

  17. this is the only one I've run across this year: http://www.lenox.com/pg/index.cfm?fuseaction=dsp_prod_view&pid=5409&format=2&sale=0&family_trad=0&kf=5&i1=6&i2=3&i3=0&i4=0 I think I'm getting it since a box from this place arrived a few days after I told T. I was going to order it. Here's another along the same theme: http://www.lenox.com/pg/index.cfm?fuseaction=dsp_prod_view&pid=7060&format=2&sale=0&family_trad=0&kf=5&i1=6&i2=3&i3=0&i4=0 ----- ~~~Michael
  18. I would say no, with exception to certain circumstances - e.g. make a wish foundation, near adult kid (14 or so +, obviously judgement call here) terminal patient that is not expected to see adulthood, etc. ----- ~~~Michael
  19. It's possible. If you want the small part I omitted from the conversation, I had the phone book open and told her that there was an advert in the book for the local (closer) DZ, found skyride via the net. That's when I was told there was a death, lawsuit, etc. The now manager of this same DZ also told me that one of their customers was told the same thing. The customer was suspicious and did their due dilegence and found that the info they were given on the phone by skyride was false. My call took place in the fall of 03. The manager at the same DZ told me his incident took place summer 04. Skyride is a cool concept that if the consumer could take the gift cert to any DZ and use. Unfortunately since not all DZs accept them, the practice of getting the sale appears to have overpowered the desire to promote the sport. Edit to add: One of my part time jobs many moons ago was to rate phone operators. I had a standard list of ?s and the rep had a specific way they were trained to respond. If I wanted them to know I was a jumper they would have, but I can also play pretty dumb. The would not have had a clue. ----- ~~~Michael
  20. Mike- I do agree you on this one. Given the industry that this is in, it's very small. People in general think that skydivers are nutzoids anyway and aren't coherent enough to look into the business practices. What hurts the image is the inside looking out (skydivers looking at skyride) and the misleading practices that skyride practices. This hurts the industry as a whole in the long run. From the outside looking in, the skyride customer may not ever be the wiser of the inner workings of the business and it's true business practices of blatently providing misinformation to make a sale. btw, personal experience: Ring, Ring Me: I'm looking to buy a tandem gift certificate, what is my nearest DZ? Skyride: Let me see, well, there is this one and this one. Those are the closest centers to you. Me: Ouch, one is 2 hours away and the other 3. What about that DZ that's 'here' (read 30 minutes from me). Skyride: Let me check. ---hold white noise--- Skyride: There used to be a DZ there but someone died last year. The were involved in a lawsuit which they lost and then closed. Me: Really? I just got off the phone with them to see what their prices were. Skyride: Well, we're not sure who you talked to but be careful, as there is not a DZ in (xyz city) anymore. Me: OK. Thanks for the info, I'll get back to you. Skyride: Thanks for calling skyride...

Propane/gas heaters are not good inside a tent. i.e. they eat all the O2 and leave none for you...(don't ask for examples, I've got a few) ----- ~~~Michael

Coolio...You know the sentimental value behind it and I'm sure can understand why beating stuff with it is so enjoyable. If you need to, pull it out and give it a wack. ----- ~~~Michael
