  1. Damn. You shouldn't really threaten people like that...they may take you up on it. I can see it now... "You all are going to jail for trespassing unless she marries me. So. What is it?" ----- ~~~Michael
  2. Was demo'ing a canopy my first WFFC in 99. last out of the plane and stupid me didn't look (like I'd get another pass anyway)...anyhow, practicing my sit only to look out and see the airport on the horizon... did a barrel roll looking for anyone above me and then dumped at 5k. landed in a family's back yard. While I'm picking up my canopy, 'dad' comes walking out the back door with the meat tray and tongs. give me a look, looks up, looks at me and then asks, 'where did you come from?' I just pointed up. Got dinner, a few pictures with the family and then a ride back to the DZ... ----- ~~~Michael
  3. Thanks for bringing it back. Although the topic appears to be set towards one DZ, one incident, it's a global discussion that need to happen. Individuals who create an account to feed their own agenda don't help the matter and it seems that why it got locked. So, here's a laundry list of items I've personally seen that got me to not visit a DZ again. 1. Non A&P mechanic working on a king air engine - he was a car mechanic though, isn't that close enough? 2. C182 pilot having a bailout rig in the seat, but not strapping it on - the afternoon replacement pilot did the same thing. 3. C205 pilot getting out of the plane as it sat at the end of the runway, open the engine cowling and dig around for the oil cap he forgot to put back on. Did I mention the engine was still running? 4. A balloon pilot bitching about how 'unsafe' another balloon pilot is, then proceeding to take off in (his own words) marginal winds. 5. Balloon pilot inflating in marginal winds, blows the burner through the skin of the balloon. Shuts down, inspects the damage, reinflates and takes off. btw, the hole was bigger when he got down... This is more of a learning thread and discussion on things that should be made a little bit more public. Was the Westwind wheels up landing have a root cause that was more than possibly a mechanical failure? Are there other maintenance/safety issues at the DZ that have been 'hidden'? What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas is not the safety rule of skydiving. If something happens, bring it out, discuss it, learn from it. That's what it is. Nothing more. ----- ~~~Michael

  5. Hmmm...I think she took that literaly - Didn't she end up with child a couple months after you acquired said camera? ----- ~~~Michael
  6. True, but not always excited when I read a post by a semi new ID and it's their first post and there's no name or anything to back it up. The words lose their steam about the 3rd sylabol. ----- ~~~Michael
  7. That's a threat on your life as I take it. Call HR. Do not pass go... ----- ~~~Michael

  12. Wingy: operation Buns is on! Now don't you wish you were coming?
  13. there's the hangar where the planes are put at night. It's a little big and I seriously doubt anyone would notice it being in the way of the planes. Other than that, don't have any suggestions. ----- ~~~Michael
  14. Agree with your statement. It was on my list of places to visit in the midwest before I moved, but it's be scratched. No information other then it landed with gear up and was spirited away before anyone could see. ----- ~~~Michael
  15. OK...here goes... A turbine beech westwind was supposed to be in Paxton (north of Rantoul) the week before the WFFC (in case any of us onsite got the urge). This A/C apparently had a belly landing 'several' weeks ago. Paxton DZ contacted last week (or possibly a little sooner, but well after the incident) that the A/C would not be coming. Belly landing was coroborated. Unable to find the incident on the FAA incident site, DiverDriver's assistance was enlisted. He also was unable to find the incident. These are generally listed within a few day, but this has been several weeks. Know a few people at the base of ops for the beech and the belly landing was again coroborated. The A/C owner apparently hustled the plane off to an off airport hangar to fix. A/C owner is also an A&P I believe (can't coroborate). There you have it... Thoughts? ----- ~~~Michael
  16. Again, agree. but, if the business/aircraft owner do not do the required steps to report an incident and do what they can to cover it up, who does that help? I've done all the research on the FAA website on reported incidents (publicly available) and found nothing involving the business I'm choosing to solicit, but once I arrive onsite, I hear talk about an incident that happened 'several' weeks ago that would have been online when I looked. I pull out the laptop and the wireless and look again. Still no incident. Ask the business/aircraft owner (staff or representative) and they say it's out for repairs. It could possibly be in a hanger off the DZ recovering from injuries sustained on a landing with the gear up. Something that should be reported? I think so. So, in this example the business/aircraft owner is hiding something from not only you, but the 'agency' (read FAA, NTSB). Right? ----- ~~~Michael
  17. I agree with this statement. But, as a consumer doing my research, if the business owner has not done the required paperwork with the 'agency' (read FAA or NTSB), and I found no publicly available information on an incident that may have affected my decision to solicit (jump) the business or not, what are they hiding? All publicly available information that would affect my decision is not there. The business owner kept something hush hush to keep from having to fill out paperwork? ----- ~~~Michael
  18. Dave would a gear up landing be considered reportable, even though everyone (or just the pilot if that's the only passenger) walked away? ----- ~~~Michael
  19. yeah...snort...laugh...giggle... we'll be making fun of Remster when he's not here too... ----- ~~~Michael
  20. Shhhh...still trying to see if that can be put together... ----- ~~~Michael
  21. Bastard! You're gonna get there before me... ----- ~~~Michael
  22. Several hundred rodents roaming freely about the grounds of the former Chanute AFB... Ground beef secretly put into the vegetarian/vegan food sold. An ill-tempered weasel named "Phil." Finding a large Asian man named "Skeeter." Flatulence fueling food served at every meal. If not, at least public sex acts... And you're going to ask for something difficult to get for the Convention when? ----- ~~~Michael
