Well, it's better than living in Texas, where the dildo control laws mean that a women can only own 5 dildos in total! What's funny is that a lot of people who think gun control is an abomination are probably all in favor of dildo control. Which is not to say you are, of course...

So the much vaunted American freedoms are the right to choose Hot Pockets over Jose Ole frozen burritos and the right to get a Chevy instead of a Ford? Pardon me if I'm unimpressed. The right to privacy is fundamental to a free society. I do not want to censor my speech because someone may be listening, no matter how remote the possibility. You may be a perfect citizen, but I certainly do say and write things that other people might not like, both in seriousness and in jest. I realize that our preferences and purchases have been tracked for years by private industry. However, I am not okay with it. And when I use my "savings card" at the grocery store, some data mining company is noting how many Doritos some guy named "Rick Kowalski" is buying...

Everything is still denied, but I believe you are referring to NSA's system supposedly called: ECHELON There is also a system called CARNIVORE that allegedly does the same thing.

We are at war? I don't remember Congress declaring war. Oh, the war on terror? Like the war on drugs? And the war on poverty? By those standards, we've been at war perpetually. Look, we are not at war, so please don't use that as justification for dismantling all that is worthwhile about the US. I can understand why our leaders feed us this crap. What I can't understand is why the sheep are eating it up.

I've always been baffled by people who claim to love this country and it's freedoms, but are perfectly willing to let those freedoms go. What exactly is it you love anyway? I don't mean this as a personal attack by any means. It just seems to me that the appeal of the US is the personal freedoms. Without that, it's just another country, right? Right?

I met a skydiver at Perris that was moaning about how tame it was afterhours. He said, "They threw out a couch the other day and didn't even set it on fire. That pretty much sums it up."

Y'know, I have a friend named Sex Dwarf...

Look cool! Mine will be all neon-green with neon-purple ribs and slider. With luck, I'll get to jump it the weekend after next.
-
Was that because anything has changed about canopies, or are current jumpers just taking bigger risks?
-
My Hornet 170 is supposed to ship out on the 29th. I can't wait! What color scheme did you get?

Oh, I guess it wasn't much of an update. I'm curious to see what they look like with a larger reserve/smaller main.
-
In a way, I'm impressed that 20 square feet makes such a big difference, especially on what I was thinking was a docile canopy. I had some doubts about going large on my first canopy, but I'm now glad I did (I'm going nuts waiting for it to arrive). I saw a frightening landing near-miss at Elsinore yesterday, so I'm planning on staying with the alternate landing area for a while too!
-
Should I expect a rented reserve to open like a reserve would, or is it different due to being packed like a main? Will a rented reserve open hard from terminal? It sounds like something I'd like to try.

Out of curiosity, what is your wingloading? You didn't seem like a really big guy when I met you. Glad to hear you learned the lesson without really serious injuries!
-
Yeah, I lost like 40lbs on the "eat a little less than usual and move around a bit, lardass!" diet. No pain, no depravation, just common sense eating and a bit of exercise. I tried a few serious regimented diets and always failed when I slacked off.
-
A side note, is it fair to assume that a reserve will fly/land something like a 7-cell like a Spectre or Triathalon? Or not?
-
Yeah, weird and wacky winds in Los Angeles right now. Some idiot towing a wood chipper (hiding his brake lights) stopped in the middle of an intersection during a strong gust and I found out how quickly my car can stop (glad I got ABS!).

I want a Pro-Track...

If I hold my nose, I can blow air out of my eye socket. It's a pretty weird feeling.

I don't know if any of you folks are geeky enough to watch The Screen Savers on Tech TV, but Martin Sargent did a dead on spoof of the ad at http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/aboutus/story/0,24330,3403577,00.html.

How easy is it to fit goggles while wearing it? What sort of goggles do you use? I tried one on and I thought of doing the same thing you did. I'd certainly like the chin protection, but I don't know about the face shield.

Doh, misread the drawing somehow...

I got my new Kurupee suit today. Er, well, it came yesterday, but I didn't notice. Do I owe beer now or first time I jump it? Anyway, it looks great, feels great and fits great. The Kurupee patch on the leg is kinda big, though!

1:3:0 I did get my jumpsuit, though I didn't notice that it arrived until after I got home from the DZ. I jumped a Silhouette...does that count as a first?

I did three bridge jump a couple of years ago. It was definitely scarier than skydiving. The ankle jump in particular was freaky...like suicide without the death part.
