  1. I can't stand there being anyone around when I work out. It's kind of weird I know, but I guess I can understand how the girl's feel. When I lived in an apartment with a weight room, I used to work out late at night so I'd have the place to myself. When I moved, I got a power rack so I can now train to failure in relative safely by myself.

    Am I wrong?

Until last weekend, I had only done the packjobs for my A (they opened really nicely, though) and a number of practice packjobs when I got my rig. However, getting weathered again last Saturday meant I had time to go through my packing skills and get critiqued by our packers. So now my rig is packed up and I'm ready to jump it this weekend. I intend to pack for myself from here on out.
  3. I've seen The Hours and Chicago. The Hours was a well-crafted, well-acted, and terminally boring film that ultimately added up to not much. However, Chicago was fantastic! I can't say that I generally like musicals, but it was fabulously entertaining. I'm going to About Schmidt tomorrow, so I can't comment.
  4. My only story is from a few years ago, flying out of Miami. The pilot was giving the usual talk over the intercom...flight time, weather, and so on...when *BOOM!* our plane was struck by lightning. About thirty seconds later, a noticably stricken voice started up again, "uh, the engineers at Boeing, uh, designed this plane to withstand this sort of event..." I wondered for quite a while what exactly got the pilot so rattled.
  5. PISA renamed? I guess that's why they have the color coded line attachment points on a couple of their canopies. I wonder why all canopies don't have that feature. I'm really happy to be learning to pro-pack on the Hornet because it's so obvious which lines are which and what's happening. Anyway, if PISA has become Aerodyne, that might be the end of cheap canopies out of SA. All around, I'm pretty intrigued by all the new gear. I can't wait to hear more!
  6. Do you have any worries about losing a lens in freefall? I mean, I can barely walk across a room without mine in. I've had my motorcycle visor open a bit at 120+ mph, so I'm not that concerned, but I think about it occasionally. I don't think lasik is a really good option for folks like us.
  7. I should get one green and one purple contact to match my gear... I really like contacts. I'm one of the very blind (-6.0, -7.5), and glasses for me means two very thick lenses in front of my face. Contacts also allow me to have peripheral vision and they make the objects in my vision a good deal larger. I'd get lasik, but results aren't as predictable for correcting above 7 diopters. I'll be wearing these things until they perfect intraocular lenses. I live in fear of losing my lenses in freefall, though...there is no way I could land well.

    state law?

Oh shit! Don't tell anyone... btw, there are plenty of whales in NV.. I think hugh hefner is one of them.. Uh, Hugh lives just down the road, here in sunny California.
  9. Rossi is glorious, but we'll see how he does next year when the rest of Honda is on the V5. My guess is that he'll still win, but won't dominate as much. I don't know if he is better than Mick Doohan was in his day. It was hard for me to decide, but I picked Shumacher over Senna. Ayrton was brilliant, but Michael is superhuman.
  10. I couldn't work out for the latter part of last year (hard opening left my back sore). Since the New Year, I've been doing cardio and started back at weights. It's painful to see how much less weight I can move, but it's coming back. It's easier to get back into shape than to get in shape the first time. I should be back to normal in a few months.

    Meal sizes

Well, on the original topic, who the hell is eating those supersize fries? I can barely finish the regular size and then I feel like I have a lead weight in my belly. No wonder Americans are such tubby bastards!
  12. I know a guy who was on a segment of Real Sex (the one where they played in a big mud puddle). He said it was all hired actors and they were put up to it. I don't know if all of the segments are rigged or not. On a slightly related note, another friend was actually on an episode of Springer. She said they are handed scripts in the beginning, but are allowed to improvise.
  13. Not sure if I fully understand this. Say someone is 150lbs and gear is 25lbs. That's 175, so they'd give the jumper a 210 or 230? Is that on the FJC or after they graduate AFF? What sort of canopy do they use?
  14. I'm very much an omnivore. I eat everything that I can (stupid shellfish allergy). Actually, I'll eat shrimp occasionally, though I know I'll be sick afterwards. I try to avoid anything hydrogenated, but otherwise anything goes. I try to use olive oil, where possible. I love meat, but I eat lots of fruits and vegetables. I'm a big fan of cheese.
  15. The other issue with the giant patch is that it's hard to actually read the "Kurupee." It's in that computer block font and the people who looked at it at trouble making it out. It's a cool design, though. I just wish it wasn't so damned big and weirdly placed.
  16. I know people have mentioned snowboarding helmets as alternatives. Does anyone have any advice on that? I have a snowboarding helmet but I want a new one because mine is pretty dorky. However, I've noticed a lot of snow helmets now don't cover the ears (or the ear covering is soft). Would this present a problem for skydiving?
  17. I got one...everything looked great except for the giant patch. So I removed it. Looks much better now. Everyone who saw the suit asked, "why the big ugly patch?" It's unfortunate because I wouldn't mind a small Kurupee logo so people know who made it. But the big one has to go! It comes off easily with no damage. Just make sure to do it before the fabric fades around it.
  18. Actually, his exit weight at 1:1 would be 175, so his WL under a 150 should be 1.17, right?
  19. 2:1:2 I was almost weathered out at the DZ today. I only got up on one load, but I got to jump my new (to me) rig, my new canopy (Hornet 170), at my new jumpsuit (Kurupee). It was also the first time I've ever jumped in clouds. I did a hnp from 13.5k. I'm sooo stoked! I can't wait for next weekend!
  20. I love Formula One, but I really think it's suffering right now. The racing has been missing for a while. There needs to be a reduction in aerodynamic grip, and an increase in mechanical grip. Too many GPs are looking like high speed parades... As for motorcycles, the racing tends be much better (though Rossi had a rather Shumie-like season). Edwards come-from-behind championship in WSB was stunning. MotoGP will really come into it's own next season. It's an exciting time, with changes in formula and lots of talent.
  21. Our local public radio station has been playing the BBC radio version of HHGTTG nightly lately. I've missed a few episodes, though, and want to try to find it on CD. Anyway, if you like Douglas Adams, try Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. It's a humorous novel about the apocalypse. I'm just finishing it up now and it is great.
  22. Or there's that weird vacuum bra thing that enlarges breasts over time (it actually got FDA approval, but it isn't much cheaper than the surgery...at least it's real breast tissue, though).
