Thanks for remembering me and replying! Lol. May I ask, what did you do when you dealt with that? Does it ever bother you to think that one day everything will cease to exist? That you will become nothing? "In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell

I didn't know if this was better in speakers corner or the bonfire, so I chose the safer option. lol. I need to get something off my chest, and have no other avenue except DZ.com. I used to post hear a lot when I was an active skydiver, but since my first child 6 years ago I have not jumped, nor posted much. Honestly, I rarely come to this site, so many of you probably wont know me, but have no where else to vent/talk about what is on my mind. (I still keep my license up for that glorious day when I do start jumping again) Any who, I turned 30 about 5 months ago. For the past 8 or so months I have been thinking a lot about death (well, the after death) and quit honestly it scares me sometimes. (Not like hurting myself, as I would never do that). It happens a lot at night when I am in bed. I will start to think about death, but more specifically the after death. The being gone, the nothing ness. The absolute done-ness. The fact that every thought I have ever had will cease in the moment I close my eyes and everything will be done. When I think about it I get knots in my stomach and have to think about something else. It puts a real fear inside of me, one I have never felt. Knowing that when that time comes I will never see my awesome children again, I will never see my amazingly perfect wife again. Everything will be not. I am hoping this passes. I have no ailments that will send me to the grave early, but now when I get the least bit sick I start to internally panic wondering "is this it? is it over?" I have no reason to feel this way. It is crazy when I think about it during the day and I can just shrug it off. I combat it with my faith because I know there is an afterlife and believe it.... But at night its like I forget that and I think about death as if there was no afterlife. Any who, I had to get that off my chest. I am not in any midlife crisis as I am still cheap as I have ever been and refuse to do anything too reckless. (I did go on a tandem powered paraglider.... that was AMAZING. not as amazing as skydiving, but a close second). Has anyone else gone through a phase like that??????? Was walking around at work tonight and for some reason this song popped in my head. Hands down one of my favorite songs! "In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell

One unit or two? That is is the question (Air Conditioner)
Ketia0 replied to Ketia0's topic in The Bonfire
Well my thinking is this.. 1. I will want the house to be the same temperature throughout anyway. So if one thermostat is on 74 the other one will be too. 2. it wouldn't be much more, a few grand, to upgrade the old one to 6 ton. The 4 ton is about 6 years old, so I could sell it. Plus, I think there is a freon leak somewhere because I just had to have it charged. 3. All parts will be at cost as my wifes grandfather has a small AC business (And here is where people ask why I'm not asking him... He is 75 and is not that well "into the game" if ya know what I mean. So I am getting different opinions before I figure out the route I want to go) "In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell -
One unit or two? That is is the question (Air Conditioner)
Ketia0 replied to Ketia0's topic in The Bonfire
I'm debating on something and would like others opnion. Bonus if you have experince in Air Conditioning. We currently have a 1600 SQFT house with a nice Maytag 4 Ton unit. We have plans to add on to the house an extra 950 ish sqft. Our original plan was to just add a whole extra unit, 2 ton, to cool and heat the add on, since it is on the other side of the house. Would it be better to upgrade the whole system to a 6 ton unit that could cool the whole thing or two different units? Thoughts? Attached is a ROUGH drawing that will give you a basic idea of the layout. "In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell -

Right. But if the air is hotter it going into the return, than that would take less heat from the Freon. This in turn would put less of a load on the outside unit keeping it from freezing up. no? "In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell

Laying in bed I had an idea, and I wanted to run it by some others before I did it.... My central heat is not keeping up in my house. We have a relatively new unit that has a heat pump. The outside unit has frozen over a few times last year to the point I went outside with a heater and melted the water. I was thinking about putting an oil filled space heater in the air return right behind the air filter. I thought of this for a couple reasons. One, a oil filled heater heats slowly and is very efficient. Two, it would fit perfect in the 3' x 3' area that leads to the suction of the unit. That way when the unit kicked on it would be sucking a higher temperature air than what is in the house, thus making it work better... Downside, could this be a fire hazard? I don't think the area would get hot enough to burn the sheet rock and as long as there is constant air flow for 50% of the time it should be OK.... Should be... Ideas or thoughts? You are 100% correct. Thats why im not going to sell it. I just wanted to make it look nicer. Here are some pics of the gun. you can see the water stains on the wood. you cant really see the surface rust that well. It was such a pain in the butt to take apart. It felt like the metal was glued to the wood. "In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell

I've got a 7 Mag & a 300 winchester, now those rifles will kick your butt. This gun is a 7 Mag "In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell

Oh wow. I didnt know that. Thanks for the info. Im going to try using that powder first and see how much of the surface rust I can get off. re-finishing the stock shouldnt effect the value in a bad way, huh? "In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell

Ill deffiantly grab some!! Itll be awhile before I shoot it. I want it re-finished before I take it back out. It will deffiantly need oiled and cleaned big time! Im looking into replacing the butt stock pad. It looks to be waaay to old. Ive heard the 7mm mag kick HARD. "In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell

Thanks I will try that. I need to go to the gun shop Monday to buy that.

My father in law was saying that the action is not a bolt action but a Mauser? He showed me the "claw for extraction". He is much smarter than me when it comes to guns!! He is going to show me how to sand the stock down and re-finish it. "In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell

I will take better pictures of it tonight. I have it all disassembled now. I am going to have to sand down the stock... Gramps let water stain it. The barrel has some surface rust on it, So im ganna see how much it will be to get it re-blued. From what I can tell, once I have it refinished it should be worth about $600 or so. I have no idea how old it is. I had a hard time seperating the barrel from the wooden stock. Felt like it was glued! The wood was soft and was crushing in when I was using a screwdriver to try and pry it. "In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell

Inheritated a new gun, but have little to no info on it. Thanks gramps!!! Here is what I do know 1. Its old 2. Its a 7mm mag 3. Has a 3 1/2 pound trigger pull 4. Taking it apart is proving to be tricky... I googled the names on the gun and didnt come up with much info. Its a Austria made gun. If anyone has ever owned one, or know of anyone who does, help would be appreciated! "In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell

So my dad inherited a gun from my grandfather who recently passed away. It looks SUPER old. I have taken the wooden pistol grip off and it looks like it is almost rotted. it has two triggers. Pulling one will fire close one hammer. the other will close both at the same time. I have uploaded some pictures. I would REALLY like to shoot this gun one day. But im not too sure how safe it would be. I am going to have the walls of the gun UT (Ultrasonic Thichness testing) to look for possible weak spots. I wouldnt even know where to start to look for balls that would fit in the barrel, or a flint/primer to go on the top thing. Anyone ever use/see/dealt with a gun this old? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks "In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell
