  1. Jean from Bonehead told me that the Bone Bonds are what they say on the webpage, you buy them and after some months (I think it was 6 months) the bond (money) will double. When you buy one they register your name and they send you the bond. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  2. Some pics. limp4 is a underwater pic of 8 years ago. aopfoto2 is from the first cleanup we had this year (am not in the pic) and the following links are from the second clean up we did, I haven't scanned the third clean up. http://www.dealante.com/documentos/8322.jpg I am the one on the left, next to that beautiful lady. http://www.dealante.com/documentos/8321.jpg The beach we cleaned. http://www.dealante.com/documentos/8319.jpg A pic of everybody (yeah I know am not that photogenic), far left in the floor with yellow tshirt and hat. http://www.dealante.com/documentos/8324.jpg The boat was taking us to another place to do underwater cleaning. I spent all the trip trying to get a date with her but had no luck. I am the third one from right to left, in front of the lady. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  3. yeah, some companies and some hotels let the tourist toss the cans and the bottles in the beach. Problem with big companies is that they have political influence and there is no way to touch them, so we try to give awareness to the workers that way they know what to do, and its been working. 5. I can't believe how many trash I saw on the bottom of the ocean, this year I have made 2 underwater cleanup and gotta tell you people are to dirty! they think that throwing it into the ocean makes no damage, they are WRONG! if we kill the ocean we kill our air, the oxigen we breathe comes mostly from the coasts. I cant remember the proportions but I think its 90% of the O2 comes from the ocean mostly from the coasts and 10% comes from everything else. Some people say that it desintagrates and they are probably right, it does but what do you creat? Soda cans are aluminum, plastic bags are like jelly fish and some fishes eat it and die, the thing that holds the cans together is like a fish net (I have seen it), bottles can last alot of time and they break the coral, I have seen diapers, kotex, wheels, plastic bottles, medicine bottles, all kinds of things underwater and that stuff is killing the animals an polluting the bottom of the ocean. The trash also travels with the undersea currents, when we classified the trash we picked up we saw alot of bottles from colombia, meaning that they travel to all kinds of places hurting and destroying what they can. Its sad... I ask for the help of everybody, next time you go to the beach carry a plastic bag and pick up all the trash you see on the floor and if you go diving go with a bag and pick up the trash you find in the way. If you see that a beach is way dirty then plan a beach clean up day with your friends its fun, ask for donations (lots of big companies like to give donations for things like this), email PADI for more information on how to do the clean up (how to classify the trash), info about project aware and get funds to help you (www.padi.com), the coral in the whole world is dying its sad and dangerous... Am with the Asociacion Oceanica de Panama and we do all kinds of projects from teaching in classrooms about awareness to coral reforestation with electrolisis. We are with project AWARE and Reef Check, and the studies showed that we (planet earth) has lost more than 50% of the coral we had 10 years ago at this rate we will loose all the corals and if we loose the coral we will loose all the life in the ocean as well, can you imagine millions of masses of water with no life? Thanks for reading. disclaimer: I get no money or anything else for saying this. PADI gives me no money or anything else for mentioning theyr name. Am just a kid that loves the ocean like he loves the sky. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  6. make a search on the user JUMBO he is the big guy who did a a jump. Safety and training forum is where you can find his quest. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com

  8. Don't worry dude, you are right it really needs more emphasis, people need to know. I was lucky I didnt broke my back. When I bought that 150 I never consulted anyone, and took a bad measure of my wingload and all kinds of stuff, when the main got here I got a couple of WTF looks from the instructors but I didn't care, I was a know it all smart ass like all the people that want to downsize very fast and BANG! biff number one, BANG! biff number two, BANG! biff number three... lucky now I can do some stand ups and some times some short swoops but man I will see the results when I get 40 years old and all my old pains come back (am 21 right now). 9. I heard that a cute nice looking lady can do wonders with a massage... hehe gotta love physical therapy. Right now am trying Kendo (japanese fencing) its kinda cool to get hit by a bamboo sword and good exercise, also planning to do some hiking (I love nature). HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  10. IAF or IAD? if its IAD (instructor assisted deployment) is like a SL but instead of the line, the instructor is the one who pulls out the Pilot chute. I think. and AFF is when you jump from altitude (10000 or more feets) with an instructor and a jump master (one on each side holding you) and then open your parachute when you reach 5000 feets. 11. thanks Michele. I heard yoga is good for stretching the ligaments, I was going to try that but have no money Donig it
  12. This link is from training and safety forum, it will help, its a hot talk about what training. Everybody prefers a Tandem first jump, then go for the rest (AFF, SL). http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=243994;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread I did my first jump with S/L cause its the only thing we do here, but am sure that I would of chicken out if I would of done AFF. 13. Yep like the title says, hard landings with your ass are completely unsafe. Here is my story, hope its good and helps. Ok, to start the story I have to talk about my jump #23 (march 30, 2002) it was my 4th time jumping my new smaller main. On that jump I made the stupiest thing on earth I started to flare to late so I ended up landing on my butt without flaring (on video you can see the canopy in its angle of attack when I touch ground, it had no grass it was only hard soil) after that jump I had about 2 weeks of pain in my butt so I took some pills and the pain left. From that day it was only a bad butt landing blah blah blah, I started to land on my feets, we laughed about it, I laughed about it and I thought everything was fine, until now. Recently, 2 weeks ago after jump #60 (october 6, 2002) my back started to hurt like crazy I thought that it was because of my hard arch, that I was sleeping in a bad way or that I was spending to much time on the computer at dz.com but the pain continued and started to get worst, on one day it was so intense that I couldnt walk, had to do some home therapy to lower the pain (hot wet pad for 20 mins then some fastum gel or voltaren gel, makes wonders). After 2 weeks of pain I decided to go back to my orthopedic doctor for a check up (I had neck problems 6 years ago so it was very important to take a look at that pain) and took some X-Ray of all my spine and it wasn't funny what we saw (am no doctor nor student and I could see the problem, so imagine how bad it was) the spine instead of been like this | from neck to coxis, it was like this: the neck (from side view) was stiff | (which is bad cause its supposed to have a natural kinda S curve) and from the low part of the neck to the butt (front view) it was like this / (a good spine is supposed to be straight |), its something he called "escoliosis" (I think its that and its in spanish), he said that the reason I have that is because I have been having hard landings and the number one reason was my butt landing on my jump 23 that happened on march (it took 7 months to give me the real pain). Now my doctor grounded me for 2 weeks, gave me pills for 3 months and physical therapy for 1 month to see if it will lower the pain and fix some of the problem, gave me a warning and told me that if I injure my spine to much I can end up in a wheelchair. Conclusion and advice: 1- PLF! do not land on your butt if its going to be hard, do not land in your feets if its gonna be to hard, do a PLF, you can clean your rig and jumpsuit but you cant change your spine. 2- Pack soft opening mains (my neck is stiff like that cause I had the neck accident 6 years ago and the hard openings are injuring me). 3- Downsize in steps, slow, conservative, dont jump from a 230 to a 150 without something in between, learn the easy safe way not the hard way like I did, please learn from my mistake. 4- Take your time to learn how to flare and do nice soft stand up landings, look for advice if you need it, get video if you need them, get coaching, etc. A bad landing can leave you in a wheelchair in no time or give a nice ugly looking cast. All the instructors and coaches are there to help, be humble and ask for their help if you need it. 5- Do warm up before jumping, it helps relax and strengthen (got this word from the dictionary so dunno how good it is) the muscles, that way it can help from a ankle problem (can't remember the correct word is it sprainged?), and prepares the body for stress. 6- Do exercise during the week (walk 1 hour everyday at least), it gives you a healthy body and better strength to the muscles, I think that if I would of done exercise in that time I would of had no problem now. 7- Rest. If you have lots of bad hard openings on one weekend then take at least a week off (7 days) from jumping and anything stressfull, that way you can relax the neck and back muscles preventing future injuries. Hard landings are no jokes, they can cause very bad problems to bones. Say NO to butt/ass landings, do PLF. When you land with your ass you direct all the power and presure to the spine. Hope it gives some of us something to think about. If you need to add or correct something please do, I thank ya. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com

  15. Congrats Lisa! you and your teammates give new hope to all the womens that have breast cancer. Congratulations and keep up the practice, remember you have a new record to break HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  16. If you want customer service go for ProTrack, cause the skytronic people will NEVER answer your emails. If you jump a Z1 go for the skytronic, fits better than the protrack. If you just want to make a wild choice, go for protrack, has more memory for logging jumps and has a few extras that I can't remember right now. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  17. Cow crap? did somebody played a bad joke or did you fall on top of the canopy on top of the crap? just curious cause that kind of crap is not that liquid. If that crap was there for a lot of time then there is no worry, all the acids and stuff must of desintagrate it, but please do clean it. dude you spoiled the shrooms harvest! HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  18. leave it as it is or just pass a dry cloth to remove the excess of dirt. Remember that the canopy has a silicone (i think its silicone) coating to reduce the porosity, but if you use any kind of liquid to clean it you can easily remove some of the coating. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  19. something just came to mind... What will you do if the student faints under a mal? and how will you know when he faints? (should I start a new thread with this?) HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  20. if am not mistaking, if you have wind resistance some objects will fall at different speeds at terminal, but with no wind resistance all object will fall at the same speed at terminal cause there is no drag and the acceleration is the same. The weight of the object counteracts for the drag caused by the fluid in this case its the wind (yes wind is a fluid in the lab). In particle dynamics the weight is considered a force as well as the drag caused by the fluid (its called friction force), in our case the weight + gravity push us down and the drag of the mass exposed to the wind (friction force) tries to push us up (kinda complicated) until the system reaches a balance and it wont get more speed and thats what we call terminal. If you don't understand I will try to put it in a clearer way, just ask. Hope I could of been of some help. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  21. You can make it. Log book must have: Jump No. Date Location Aircraft type Equipment Used Maneuvers Jump Altitude Freefall Delay Surface wind Distance to target Jumpmaster or Pilot signature Remarks Ask somebody that has a logbook and measure the page, make lots of them (make as much as jumps you want to put there and use heavy paper, so it can last for a long life), paste them together (use hard cover or the cover that are used on books, I think is something coated with plastic, that way it will last alot from the touching, it gets protected against the sweat of hands) and you got yourself a log book. Make lots of them and sell them to your friends or the newbies, that way you pay your logbook with the income Logbook is very important in your skydiving career, if you want ratings you need to have lots of jumps, if you want another license you need lots of jumps and certain stuff, the only proof you have that you made them is the log book signed. Look at the attachment for a model, you are free to use and modify the model if you wish. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  22. Same here, the ones who are flying us are the instructors of the pilot school (the ones that teach others how to fly planes, sorry for the explanation, am having doubt with my english). HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com

  24. If you are going to jump in very cold weather I personally do not recommend the bonehead boomerang, it lets alot of air go inside the helmet, is the best thing there is for hot weather but not so great for cold weather. I have a boomerang and its great, it has so many holes in the visor that there is no way for it to fog under canopy or freefall and I use it for RW. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  25. 1. call the other dz. 2. carry your log book with you and videos if you have. 3. if you told your instructor that you are going to do that, ask him the favor of making a signed letter about your improvement and show it to your new instructor or JM. that should work. Thats what my instructor does when somebody leaves Panama and wants to continue training in the US. Most probably is that they will take you back one level just to be sure.
