I would not attempt to flare my reserve on rears or anything but the toggles having never tried it before. I might attempt to slow it down a little but I would attempt to absorb as much as I could with a PLF. I'd rather break my legs than stall on rears, land on my back with a Cypres between my spine and the ground.
-
I reckon this is pretty serious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVDlu7dvzGM

What about using a drogue to slow down once contact has been made with the ramp? I think that seems like a fair enough thing to do, i.e would not constitute using a parachute.

I came off a quad bike once wearing a full face helmet and I reckon the chin protection could have saved me from a spinal injury. I went off head first and landed on the back of my head as the rest of my body flew over the top, the helmet chin got compressed into my chest and absorbed the impact there. Dunno if that relates at all, just thought I'd share.

In CS3 if you export to Media Encoder, in the Export Settings window click the 'Output' tab, a 'Deinterlace' checkbox will appear near the tab you clicked on. Not sure if this has changed in later versions.

New great news from Yves "Jetman" Rossy - Aerobatics
johnmatrix replied to piisfish's topic in Wing Suit Flying
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=8246007 A Swiss adventurer dubbed "JetMan" cancelled an attempt to make an acrobatic flight over the Grand Canyon, saying he had not been able to train enough for the exploit. Yves Rossy also said his energy had been sapped by wrangling to obtain authorisation for his winged jetpack from the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), which only approved it 30 minutes before the planned take-off. "I was so focused on getting the authorization, I thought I would be able to fly anyway. And I ended up forgetting that I should put my energy into the flight and not on trying to get the authorization," he told AFP. -

Try contacting Rory Hatchett at Precision Rigging. He may be able to help you out. Or if you're worried about getting burnt again (which is probably unlikely) get things one at a time from the US (start with the reserve or the AAD). I can only imagine how angry and frustrated you are at the point. I had enough trouble getting second hand gear together under normal circumstances, let alone being ripped off in these circumstances.

I thought this was an interesting comment - what could this mean? http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2011/05/02/press-briefing-senior-administration-officials-killing-osama-bin-laden

I like the effect though, even if it is slightly distracting. That could have won an Oscar in 1988. ;)

There HAS to be one out there. How about this? http://www.xsportsprotective.com/s-one-cromag-xl-skateboard-helmet.html

Visit the blacksmith and have him forge you a helm of pure steel. 100 silver and 50 bear pelts should suffice as payment.

What about getting one of these liner kits for a Protec and modifying it before installation? http://www.paragear.com/templates/parachutes.asp?group=4&level=1

So his legstraps were well and truly off, not just on and loosened all the way out? Forgetting simple things like this is my ultimate skydiving nightmare. It gives me the creeps just thinking about it.
-
So basically if the legstraps are undone then the yoke lifts up, is that right?

The paint job is one thing, but moving the wing from the top of the fuselage to the bottom is the really cool part. You need to see the nose for full effect: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Untitled-(Access-Aviation)/Pacific-Aerospace-Cresco/0886038/&sid=491475fb990b3982056f662ab381a548

Not sure if this has been posted already but it has another pic of the 'shot ball'. http://para-concepts.com/AADs/Issues.pdf -
Anyone know who this is? Tell me so I don't jump here....

Somehow I knew your first post would start like this. P.S. Koppel I am busting to use that emoticon. -

He has very definitely been criticised regarding this. He has made some mistakes and did not mind posting the video evidence, he is also the sort of guy who wants to see others learn from his mistakes. -
Personally I think it is an amazing movie but it's also not like a lot of other movies (partly why I like it). That's Kubrick for you though. I think most people are either blown away by it or almost completely indifferent. There's nothing wrong with not liking it though! I still think it holds up, I reckon I've seen it 10 times by now and it still entertains me more than most other films I've seen. It ends up being just little things that get me. Like when the nude girl comes out on stage and the prison warden has this look on his face like he's experiencing 10G of acceleration. Makes me laugh every time.

In a document attached to a post on p2 of this thread: http://www.dropzone.com/forum/Skydiving_C1/Gear_and_Rigging_F6/Argus_AAD_misfire_P2442321-2 a diagram of this version of the Argus cutter indicates that a floating insert lies on top of the anvil. (I'm not sure exactly what was changed in further revisions of the cutter, did they say it was a stronger blade? Was the insert still included?)

Hi all, I'm just wondering, what is going wrong with the Argus cutters? My understanding is that both Argus and Vigil have a circular cutter design, yet I have not read any stories of Vigil cutters failing to cut the loop on activation. Are the Argus and Vigil cutters exactly the same? Does anyone know of any difference in construction or materials used? Anyone care to offer any theories? I'm just curious.
