  1. I don't get all the hate to be honest. Jeb is just out there working on his own projects, good on him. So what if it's been done before? I can't be bothered watching any of it but I actually can't be bothered watching most videos now. They all look the same. Trees flying past with dubstep playing and really off-putting editing like random slow motion. Sounds like a lot of people just need to get on with their own jumping or at least griping and moaning about something worth complaining about. Having said that though I still can't quite believe that their 'money-shot' ended up being a vertical phone video.
  2. A friend of mine just got rid of his Storm 120 due to diving line twists causing a chop, he's got an Epicene now. I jump a Sabre 2 190 and get line twists every now again, but it very rarely dives, in fact I think only once. Have never had to chop it.
  3. What canopies do people normally jump there? A Sabre, Storm, Safire, Spectre, Pilot and quite a few others will be fine.
  4. I use my Vector 3 353 for a 160 Lightning and it's perfect. I do keep a very slightly longer closing loop as it's a little tighter than my Sabre 2 190.
  5. Don't be too hard on yourself, it's not for everyone. It's scary, dangerous and expensive. You have to want to do it. Personally, as a student I found the ride to height to be very mentally exhausting and I often questioned whether the sport was for me or not. I don't want to try and convince you one way or the other, but what you've said sounds normal. Whether you want to continue or not is up to you, but be happy with the choice you make because you can't do both. :)
  6. Using the Clone Stamp tool you can get rid of those spots in just a few seconds.
  7. As above, it looks like lens flare to me. It's a common photographic artefact and you can even apply a filter in Photoshop to add one if it's not there. I don't think it looks bad actually, I don't mind it, but each to their own.
  8. Yes, that's pretty much exactly what happened.
  9. The riser hangup was caused by incorrect rigging. The left 3 ring loop was routed through both rings on the riser before passing through the grommet, causing the loop to be trapped between the webbing on the small loop and under the ring of the large ring. Short story: jumper almost went in because he didn't properly check his gear. Was discussed a while back... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4645606#4645606
  10. Yes I recall seeing one where a guy cut through the risers of a hanging harness. Would be good to see it again...
  11. At least 3 jumpers I know - each with much more experience than me - have said the Hunter is a lot more powerful than the Ghost 3. I've done 1 jump on both suits, quite a long time apart, so I can't really give you an informed opinion, other than that I think the Hunter is indeed very powerful and very nice to fly.
  12. An RI magnetic bag's magnets do not open to let the lines out, just as the tuck tabs on other semi-stowless bags do not open to let the lines out. Mark OK, thanks. I'm not familiar with really any of the other models, I just know that there's a few different types out there.
  13. I've put about 500 jumps on my UPT semi-stowless bag and love it. Exactly what sort of semi-stowless bag is it? Does it have tuck tabs or magnets? I've been told of problems with magnets, as after they open to let lines out they can also snap shut back on some of the lines whilst they are still deploying. Anyway, whatever type of bag, packing error or not, shit just happens sometimes.
  14. I did a jump on a friend's PF Hunter today - it's an AWESOME suit. My experience: 300 total WS jumps, almost all on a Phantom 2. Also: Stealth 2 - 20 Havok - 1 Ghost 3 - 1 Vampire 5 - 2 Vampire Race - 11 I found the Hunter super easy to fly, with a massive amount of power. The pull was very clean and easy too. Just 1 jump but very impressed.
  15. right as I understand the WS-world ... I suppose some of you missed the point of the starting question. Or I do .. Why pull at full flight? As my friend Ulli died in that accident in Italy, the conclusion was that the fabric of that wingsuit was wrapping around his PC-handle. this happend due to the collapsed wings and made it impossible for him to pull. He tried to find the PC handle and impacted. I guess (as I have only very few WS jumps) that with a smaller WS, that would not have happend. Also it would not have happend in that way if he had pulled in full flight (we think ..). As that was a BASEjump, he had no chance to go for silver. So for me, with bigger wings you should consider a different way of pulling and be aware what kind of burbles (PC hesitations, etc. ..) or highspeed stalls of canopies or even WS-stalls may mean to you. Sorry to read about your friend. I agree with you, and with what the article says. Reasons for pulling in full flight are: - to conserve altitude (important in BASE) - for cleaner deployments (important for big suits) - regarding your friend, from what was written it seems that pulling in full flight would have enabled better access to the BOC It's just not so important for skydiving small suits. I think it's a good idea - just not important in that situation.
  16. I actually find the rest of the world quite confusing.
  17. That's what I do. For a beginner in a small suit I don't really think there's much reason to pull from full flight in skydiving. But if you can do it, you might as well. Just generally it's good to try different things - packing, exits, deployment... might as well try and learn something while you're up there. :)
  18. For the record I did not, as in Australia it was Monday, and Monday sucks.
