  2. Interesting, especially considering that this Riggers Handbook was published in year 2005, when a vast majority of rigs and jumpers already had an AAD.
  3. FAA Parachute Rigger Handbook, chapter 7 page 105: "If the loop is to be used with a reserve container, it may be required to sew the finger-trapped part of the loop for security. If this is the case, simply sew the length of the finger-trapped portion of the loop with a single needle machine before hot knifing the end. Start at the running end and sew towards the eye of the loop. Stop sewing approximately .12" from the eye and then backstitch a minimum of 1" [Figure F]. Trim the end with the hot knife."
  4. They are talking about 150 feet in the same sentence...

  6. Less wear on the lines. Better view. Easier to stow behind the neck.
  7. One jump-one pair is the way to go to avoid ear infections, so no worry about loosing them. Box of the best ones costs approx $30 (per 100 corded pairs). 8. Terry - has anyone done the following test after such 'mysterious' fatality: take *the* rig, repack the main a the reserve, put it on a person or dummy (on the floor), and do the PIA/BPA freebag extraction test. Maybe the scale would show 100 lbs then, for example? Has anyone done that after any of the 'strange' fatalities, where the reserves did not open in time???
  9. You are more streamlined without the rig. But true - you are also lighter. Also: higher altitude = thinner air = higher airspeed.
  10. With the new invasion of "fake passport" spam bots, I think it would be wise to integrate CAPTCHA code during account setup: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTCHA
  11. This?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lehGkRCFXY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDUPAkuWP4Y The Vigil in the second video had some problems BEFORE the jump.
  12. This must be the simplest order form I have ever seen ;-): http://www.paratec.de/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Orderform-Speed.pdf Speed 2000 manual is here: http://www.paratec.de/wp-content/themes/paratec/pdfs/manuals/en/Speed_Benutzerhandbuch__englisch_-_deutsch___Stand_04-2009.pdf "THIS PARACHUTE IS LIMITED TO BE USED UP TO A PACK OPENING SPEED OF 150 KTS AT A MAXIMUM OPERATING WEIGHT OF 115 KG HOWEVER THE MANUFACTURER HAS DETERMINED MAXIMUM SUSPENDED WEIGHTS FOR EACH SIZE TO ASURE SAFE FLIGHT AND LANDING CHARACTERISTICS. Please choose your canopy size to match your personal experience level and your requirements. A 120 sqft reserve will easily support and land a 200 Ibs jumper but is he really able to do so under all circumstances? Probably not!! When you have to use your reserve, you are probably not over your home DZ with plenty of space to land (Remember: Murphy is everywhere). Our Speed 2000 Reserves pack so small that you can afford to choose the recommended canopy size for your weight. There is no need to overload the canopy and there is also no room for vanity when you ´re down to you last parachute!!"
  13. Stefan: Where (at jumper's body) is the stall point of Speed 2000, which is loaded at: 1.0, 1.5, 2.0? We all know that Microravens stalled easily, sometimes at ribcage level, when loaded above 1.3...
  14. Here is the correct, working link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsEI_6cErbM
  15. Anyone? Why can't you just order from a European dealer???... It is simple. The reserve is TSO-D, and there IS world outside the USA...
  16. From the PD Reserve manual: "Should you find that the tab does not remain in place, PD recommends tacking the tab to insure it stays locked between the risers."
  17. OK, few comments on the below posts: Chris-Ottawa If you read all the incidents involving Argus cutters, each one has an "odd" circumstance surrounding them (ie: ball bearing inside the cutter from a rigger's packing weight. Translation, in my opinion, 100% of the Argus incidents could have occurred on ANY other cutter. Chris-Ottawa There's nothing "more"wrong with an Argus than a cypres, out a vigil out an m2. Pchapman July 2009 Poland -- Student fatality, no pull. A report said cutter cut at the right altitude, and cut properly (I wonder), but the reserve didn't come out of the container until impact. Jan 2007 cutter (old style). After that we got the bulletins on getting the newer cutter. Please read THIS: http://www.pia.com/TechnicalArgusDocuments/OrganizationBulletins/2009_562FINALREPORT.pdf and this: http://www.pia.com/TechnicalArgusDocuments/OrganizationBulletins/2009_620_RK_English.pdf
  18. I know that 'Speed 2000' has a small volume. Is it also true for 'Speed'? (I doubt it).
  19. No such product exists, even when spelled 'steel' .
  20. Hi there, Do any of you have any Powerpoint presentations covering gear, which I could incorporate into my presentation during the Safety Day at my DZ in Poland? Something (for example) on maintenance, issues, wear, gear checks, hard openings, compatibility, etc. Any and all. Basically, anything gear related with photos, serving as a good refresher/info before the season. If yes, I would be greatful if you could email it to me at: SkydiverBart@gmail.com If not Powerpoint, other formats will do, too
