  1. Our tax dollars at work here. I am sure to ruffle a few feathers here but oh well ! They got what they deserved ! I agree completely with the deputy that initiated this being fired and the remaining being reprimanded. This is completely unprofessional, not a way an officer of the law should conduct himself, IMO. Kudos to the off duty officer reporting it as well. He did what he should have done.
  2. Check this out, might be a help ?? http://www.goes.noaa.gov/
  3. breaks out the pot for the first five takers, cream and sugar on the table !
  4. Good morning everyone, I am in a good mood this morning. Heading off to get the first cup, anyone else want ????
  5. WOW !!! Ok I am still a non jumper right now I even I would know not to jump something like that. Me being 6ft around 220 I could not even fathom attempting something on that scale ! I hope he listens to someone and scales up the canopy size. Yea swooping looks cool but better left to those that have the knowledge and experience. Prolly something I will never want to do but still.
  6. LOL I dont mind, its all opinions and also informational. Feel free to chime in ! I have been considering Temple simply due to the fact its much closer for me anyways. But I plan on dropping in there real soon !!! Watch out !! LOL you guys and gals have a good day ! !!

  8. Not wanting to be the smart ass here... In doing some basic research here online at DZ and other sites, I think it a little less expensive than you are making out here. For one with two of the dz's i mention here the cost is anywhere from 1300 to 1800 for AFF course, depending if you select the level 7 course or go all the way to level 14, according to the DZ's, rig rental is about 35 per jump + jump tix of 22ea to altitude. So here is how I broke things down 1800 AFF course, well take the max to cover anything special ------ SSM Course lvl 1-14 AFF Full Course Package (AFF Level 1 - 14) (With 10% discount) $1860.00 Jump ticket to 13,000 ft $21.00 Gear Rental $30 per jump or $60 /day ------ Skydive Temple Entire AFF Course if paid up front - $1290 AFF Course lvl 1-7 Jump to altitude $22 Gear Rental $35 a jump or $75 a day (does not include pack jobs) ----- 70 + 44 two jumps a month, rig rental and jump tickets. Yes I do understand that this is an expense till I can afford my own rig, but the point is it still lets me jump. Jump suit ? questionable at best. I have see people use them and some disregard them entirely, well use your 400 dollar figure here simply cause I had not factored that in. Helmet ? Depends on what you want, just enough to get by ? A Benny open face is no more than 70 bucks, I can afford this off one payday and still get by. http://www.chutingstargear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=17_19&products_id=197 Goggles, again depending on what you want its a variable, I used 35 bucks more or less depending on what you want. Same here, easy nuff to get a pair and shelve them, till your ready. For me these would work fine either with my contact or get the rx filled. http://www.birdzeyewear.com/bill.php Altimeter, again depending on what you want ? There is a brand new one here that will do the job for 100.00. So that being said I came up under 2500 +/- bucks. So is that doable yes, but a little at a time. Yes eventually we would like our own gear however some cannot afford a nice new pretty rig custom built so we shop around, a well loved container of choice, and the same for mains and res also, sure we will likely want a new AAD, who wouldnt, I know I will. So we piecemeal things. Get this first save for that. The way you are making this sound is that only those that are well off that dont mind getting dirty are able to afford it. I humbly dsagree, it what you want and how bad you want it. If you want it badly enough you will find a way to live without that second cup of coffee, sadly yes I am doing just that, but that is a couple bucks closer to what I WANT.
  9. See this is not what I want to be seen as the annoying person. I want to be informed however I dont want to piss someone off.
  10. Good morning all, I think this could fall into this category ? Move it if you feel it should be elsewhere. So reading a few threads here got me wondering ? Sometimes this is a good thing sometimes not. SO I will ask away. I have been lurking in the shadows here on DZ and finally registered. Have had some great responses to a couple questions related to gear and locations. In reading this thread and others makes me wonder ? I have been thinking about visiting some local dz's near me to kind of check them over, get a feel for things and such but not sure how a currently nondiver would be welcomed ? Now mind you I am not one that is going to show up and soak up all the beer, not my style so no worries about having an empty fridge when I leave, LOL.. Rather it is a concern that being a n00b, definitley interested in getting into the sport, that I would simply be brushed off if someone asks the questions that are bound to come up. What lic class, # of jumps, rig type, you know what I mean. Personally I want to begin my AFF course asap however to be honest I just dont have the funds right now. I am looking to become familiar with a dz and when I have the available funds take my AFF and continue forward from there. Ok this being said, how would you as a skydiver welcome a nonskydiver in your midst that wants to learn, wants to make friends, of course wants to skydive when he can afford it, and overall is just a regular person ? Is there anyone here from either SSM or Skydive Temple as these are the two major DZ's near me. If so drop me a line and lets chat about your DZ !
  11. I kinda gathered that they were no longer around however there is nothing saying so, so like I said I would ask. Secondly there is about a 500 dollar diff for the AFF courses between Temple and SSM. Temple boasts prepaid 1200 and change while SSM boasts 1800 and change, so whats the deal ??? Why the huge price diff between if they are indeed offerring the same course ? You would figure that the larger DZ would have a better price due to turnover ?
  12. I have heard that is a good DZ but the other one, if still in business, is half the distance to me.
  13. Ok I am going to ask cause I cannot find anything definitive that says NO ! Been browsing the DZ locator here and I see listings for Capitol Skydiving, Coupland Texas. Now when attempting to research it I see reviews, webpages, phone numbers an acount here, ref to forums away from DZ however these things do not work. Am I right that they are no longer in business ? Or just have not "paid the bills" as it were ? If they are no longer in business could we prevail on the webmaster to remove them from the DZ Locator, so that other unsuspecting n00bs as myself are not led to believe that there is some where closer than Temple and San Marcos ??
  14. Ok ice cream lovers, tried this and loved it !! Yes I like Food Network ! http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/guy-fieri/breath-mint-pie-recipe/index.html
  15. I do not know you, but you give of yourself freely To another you share your life to sustain them. This is the greatest gift, one of life. May the Lord and Lady watch over you both. I hope for a speedy recovery, one without complications, and a long life for you both.
  16. Good morning fellow coffee drinkers. Happened across the thread and well since this is my daily addiction I figured that I would stop in and say hi. Yea I am just getting started so be nice :P not in my AFF course yet but I am working on that. So whats brewing today you may ask ? Hmmmmm todays selection is Vanilla.

  18. LOL I would love to go straight to the AFF on the 1st jump, however funds might prevent this at this time ! LOL but I cant wait !! I wanna go SOOO freaking badly !! ITs a disease and jumping has to be the cure !
  19. Yea I have been hearing this same sort of thing, unfortunately. I would loved to have jumped this just once and had video that I could send to my friend but as this becomes the case this appears to be almost impossible. I do realize it is a safety precaution and I appreciate the advice greatly believe me the last thing I was is to induce more issues than necessary. Thank you to all that have replied. This was my first post here and I want to say thanks for the welcome and not treating me like a n00b. This goes to show the quality of people here.
  20. I would appreciate it however I am in the Austin, RR are these days and would prefer someone local as driving 3 hours to have it inspected each way is a long way. I was considering taking it to either skydive Temple or San Marcos to be honest but I am sure that would look rather odd showing up with just a container, not to mention its age, someone is going to get a good laugh. Just curious if this is airworthy, if it is inspected and could be used what would be the disadvantages of using it ? My thing is free is of course free, and well I am on a bit of a budget. Now I dont want anyone to get the wrong idea here I truly dont want to skimp on this kind of thing LOL, it is my life I am talking about here. So if this is truly a bad idea then it will most assuredly be abandoned.
  21. It does say that it was made in 84, blue is the main color, red center and white striping. Has 3 ring releases on the risers, was converted from a ripcord main to throw out, I still have the original ripcord. Has a single handle cutaway and res deployment system, I think called SOS ? I have the original main pilot chute w/ spring, res pilot chute w/ spring, both dbags too.
  22. Here's the deal, Got this container and extras, minus the squares, from a very close friend of mine. He no longer jumps and passed his gear to me. I am planning on learning to skydive but due to the age of the rig I would not trust it at this time. I had it looked at by the manufacturer in Dallas, The Adventure Loft and at that time they deemed it airworthy, however I am not 100% sure I would trust my life to it unless someone local to me could inspect it and assure me of it being airworthy. That being said I am looking to see if anyone out there might recognize the container model ? What might fit it, main and reserve ? Unfortunately it appears the pics are too big to place here, so see my pics as the front and back are there.
