How do you label your DVDs for customers?
IGOLOW replied to WatchYourStep's topic in Photography and Video
Our DZ buys the discs pre-printed now. When I first started doing DVDs I bough an Epson R200 printer to print directly on the discs. There are newer models now and you can get them for under $100. I would check out the R260. I use Verbatim inkjet hub printable DVDs so that you can print all the way to the center of the disc. I buy both the discs and replacement ink cartridges from meritline.com. -
Raft dive safety - the rope that goes around it
IGOLOW replied to sundevil777's topic in Safety and Training
Not the incident you were talking about but someone at my DZ jumped with a small pool float and it folded around his leg. Here is the video. It's not the best quality but you get the idea. Not fun! http://www.teammantis.org/postnuke/html/downloads/Rob.zip This is him 4 days after http://www.teammantis.org/postnuke/html/downloads/Rob_s_Eyes.wmv -
I'm not sure on the size of the optik. They have updated their site and it shows the dimensions. http://tonfly.editarea.com/DIABLO_500965.html

I just received my helmet yesterday. I didn't have much time to play around with it but the helmet fits great and the chin cup is very comfortable. The build quality also appears to be excellent. The box for the HC3 is definitely not built as well as a cookie box but it also was less than 1/3 of the price. My initial impressions lead me to believe that at $426.00 (320 euros) including delivery for the custom color helmet with cutaway and custom color HC3 box this was a great value. They even provided a helmet bag for free. I should be mounting cameras in the next few weeks. I will provide an update with pictures when it's done.

I would also vouch for Richard at buildarig. I was surprised last summer when I called to purchase a canopy that I found on their website. I got the same "dealing with yankees" crap. The whole exchange was odd. I still ended up buying the canopy from him. He shipped the canopy overnight before even receiving payment. He gave me a bank account number to deposit a check into. Not the way a typical company does business but I got a great canopy at a great price the day after I ordered it. I would definitely do business with the again.

Thanks for keeping us updated. Your input to this forum is definitely much appreciated.

Hey DSE, I too am interested to know what effect the OIS has on freefall performance. Do you have any idea when you'll be able to get your hands on one for testing? I need to ditch my HC3 but don't want to do so until I know the HC7 is suitable for skydiving.

I'm working on this for my setup. I plan on having it ready for the new season here in New England.

No import tax. The total for the helmet, cutaway, and Dbox for the HC3 shipped to the US was 320 Euros. $426.80 USD. We'll see how it goes.
-
I'll keep everyone posted. They are closed until after the 1st but quoted 20 days for delivery.
-
They just sent me pricing. The helmet, dbox for the HC3, and the cutaway is only $450 including shipping to the US. I think I'm going to order one.

Hi all, I'm looking for some info about Tonfly helmets and dboxes. Does anyone here have experience with them? How is their build quality. I am looking at the Diablo camera helmet. Does anyone use this with a front mounted still? Has anyone tried the box for the HDR-HC3? Any pictures of your setup or any other info would be appreciated. Thanks John

This is what I jump with. The wind does get in from underneath the glasses but it doesn't bother me unless it's freezing out. The strap that they come with sucks. I replaced it with another Oakley strap.

I just priced out an editing system using the Asus A8N-E motherboard. If I were to build a system right now this is the board I would use. What are you going to be editing? What application are you going to use? This is what should dictate the components that you purchase. I'm holding out for motherboards that support DDR2 memory with AMD's new socket. My current system is great for DV editing. Any new system that I build would be for HD/HDV editing.

Ooh Ooh I knew all the food network my wife watches would pay off. 1. Definitely a spatula. 2. Is a rubber spatula unless it's curved on the back then it's a spoonula. http://shop.bakerscatalogue.com/landing.jsp?go=DetailDefault&ref=pub1&id=8415 I think we may need to get rid of cable.

If any of you happen to know Katherine Heigl, could you introduce me?

This wouldn't have anything to do with that would it? NSFW -
Premiere: Audio Static on Export to AVI??
IGOLOW replied to weegegirl's topic in Photography and Video
I've had audio problems in the past that were caused from several different issues. I don't think these problems are present in premiere pro but I'm not positive. The main problem I had was dealing with 12-bit audio. It caused some noise that I only noticed on export. I think there was a fix for this but I have since switched all of my cameras to 16-bit audio. I never use the extra track anyway. What version of premiere are you using? Do you use any type of editing hardware? Was the footage captured with Premiere via DV? -
I would just like to post an update to the problems I have had with my Mirage. After speaking with Ward about my problems he jumped at the chance to correct them. He has been very responsive to my questions and my issues are now being resolved. Thanks Ward for all of your help. Keep up the good work.

I would be curious to know how long this new crew has been in charge. I have had problems with my rig since i got it a few years ago. Trying to deal with the customer service people at Mirage proved to be a big waste of my time. Even when I tried to pay for changes I couldn't get them done. After leaving my rig in you factory for about a month I finaly had it sent back without the repairs. This was in February 2005.

I made this rig rack that holds both mine and my wife's rig. It's made of solid oak and is just another piece of furniture in the living room.

All of you video guys from SDNE that submitted footage for the year end video send me an Email to let me know where you're at so that I can send you your free copy. Next year I will start working on the video sooner so that we actually have a completed video before everyone takes off for the winter. jmonteiro@blueskeyes.com

The extra memory wouldn't hurt but I used premiere pro with 512 Mb of memory with a 2.6 GHz P4 processor and it worked great. Memory is fairly inexpensive though so you may want to add another 512 but it's not required.
-
The computer you mention is plenty powerful to work with Premiere Pro. This is what I typicaly use for editing. Avid also makes awesome editing tools and they offer a free version that is very capable. http://www.avid.com/freedv/index.asp?pageElement=flyout

Calculating Altitude AGL From Pressure
IGOLOW replied to fred's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Depending on the pressure sensor that they use it could be temperature compensated. I made a digital altimeter that was very accurate without the need to adjust for temperature. -
Any tips on packing a brand new Sabre 2?
IGOLOW replied to darrenspooner's topic in Gear and Rigging
I'll accommodate AggieDave. I was in the same situation as you last year and struggled with my canopy until I would finally end up paying a packer so that I would not miss several loads trying to get it in the bag. I too bought a brand new Sabre II as my first canopy without having packed before. My container was sized for the 135 to fit very tight because I new I would probably want to downsize soon. Psycho packing was the solution that allowed me to get the canopy in the bag the first time every time. I have packed my canopy this way for over 200 jumps and have had all great openings. I think the name "Psycho" tends to push people away from this method. It's not that it's necessary, but it sure saved me a lot of frustration especially with the split bag on the Mirage G4 with a brand new canopy.
