At what point do you stop thinking of it as "home"?
Harmless replied to Nataly's topic in The Bonfire
My one 4 year stint was high school (Cottage Grove, Oregon), and my parents still live there... everything else was < 3 years. (I only went 8 different schools ) In the last 6 years I've lived in 4 states and Iraq for short time (Even my tent felt like home for awhile) "Damn you Gravity, you win again" -
I was gonna stay out of this but since you brought in linux I recommend Ubuntu for user friendliness. "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

Ketchup in the fridge because I like the way it tastes when its cold. I prefer spreads over butter, and like that cold also (plus it separates into oils at room temp) PB and syrup belong in the cupboards... "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

86 yr old WWII veteran speaks about gay marriage
Harmless replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
I mostly try to stay out of the discussions on here... but after reading your whole argument from beginning to end I can't figure out which point you are make. You've changed your argument too many times, so I'll stick with your latest one. "Normalizing the abnormal is wrong" So we can agree that abnormal does not equal wrong? Then I only have to address your concern of normalizing it. Well set your fears aside my friend, for the act of legalizing gay marriage is in no way normalizing it. If you like I can explain the difference for you. "Damn you Gravity, you win again" -

Never lived in one city for more than 3 or 4 years since the day I was born. I really hate answering the question, "so where are you from?" "Damn you Gravity, you win again" -
Nashville TV News story on Skyride
Harmless replied to BillyVance's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'll add in that Skydive Opelika, Skydive Ogden, and Eugene Skydivers all give weather refunds; no questions asked. I'm fairly certain that every other DZ I've been to also does, but since I don't know for %100 then I won't name them. "Damn you Gravity, you win again" -
Seems a little overkill... I tuck my shirt into my pants before putting the rig on and have never had it come out; even sit flying. I rarely wear a suit. "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

I recommended the Vizio for that reason... they are doing very well for low end prices. "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

I don't know the exact numbers... but I do know my power bill went up because I had the TV turned on much more often when I upgraded "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

Yes, last New Years Eve I got really drunk in Panama City Beach and with some bad judgement I caught "the swine flu" Then I called her a cab. "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

Seems to be a pretty concise answer right there. Why dont you just buy the next size up bag container? Fixed it for you. LOL I'm such a donkey, i honestly thought he was talking about the deployment bag. I need to wake up before I post dumb shit. The D-bag is fitted for the container... therefor if you need a bigger d-bag, you need a bigger container. "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

The only *real* argument over speakers is "how much can you afford to spend" As for your point about Cable TV earlier... I went HD for games and movies, I couldn't care less is House was in HD (in fact I only buy basic cable for the internet and stream my tv shows from the computer through HDMI to the tv) "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

AH! Why didn't I see this sooner! I would have so been there. "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

Skydive Opelika Night Jumps 10/24/09
Harmless replied to Harmless's topic in Events & Places to Jump
There will be lots of people doing firsts that night. I know you're gonna be there all day but for everyone else: You must show up before the 6PM safety briefing in order to participate in the night jumps. "Damn you Gravity, you win again" -
WWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW!!! OK no you really do NEED to go big! Remember the old TDK commercials? http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2007/03/blowaway.jpg This could be you! But again depends on what your cable box is spitting out. My box is a mixed bag. Some come in 1080p and others don't. And remember when you are at the store all those TV's are hooked up to a very high end 1080P source. Not hooked up or set up correctly, usually in a purposefully deceptive manor. http://www.switched.com/2007/12/14/the-monster-difference-is-a-scam/ "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

Well the misty is a "feature" of lcd but it is also likely that it didn't help that it wasn't set properly. Might I suggest the Panasonic TC - P46S1 just doing a quick search of current models this would be the one I buy (without taking special sales into consideration) for ~$1,000 online. I bought my TV in the end of '07 and it was a 42" 1080p Panasonic plasma for ~$1400 (was one of the first 1080 plasmas) edit to add: my plasma has an anti-glare coating which slightly takes away from the picture but makes a big difference since I have LOTS of windows in my living room. at night it is only a negative. I didn't look to see if the P46S1 has the same coating or not. Overall I've been very happy with my tv (other than the $600 price drop for the next model up 6 months later) "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

It all depends... 1080 vs 720 boils down to the size of the tv vs the distance you sit from it. 1080 allows you to use a larger screen at the same distance without seeing distortion. Past a certain distance/size the difference is negligible. I'm a plasma fan for the deep black levels and lack of ghosting. But, they are heavier, hotter, use more energy, and have problems with ambient light being reflected off the glass. LCD are lighter, more efficient, available in wider range of sizes. Only the top range models are able to compete with mid range plasmas for black levels. fast moving objects can cause ghosting images (120hz is BS marketing gimmick), more expensive in the larger sizes than plasma. Burned in images is really not an issue on modern panels, both have very long lifespans. They both have their own issues with reproducing certain colors (I believe plasmas have a harder time with and LCDs with red but don't quote me on it) Also take a look at Samsung's DLP with LED... they aren't wall mountable but still pretty small. And can be bought in much larger sizes for less money. For plasma I suggest Panasonic and Kuro is the top of the line models. For LCD I prefer Samsung for LCDs (something with LED backlighting for any LCD though will help with the black levels, some times they are called LED TVs but they are still LCDs.) Of course if your on a tight budget, get a cheap Vizio LCD and don't do any research :P Edit to add: Contrast ratios used to be a good quality indicator but those have been fudged with the "Dynamic contrast" into more marketing BS. Also don't bother looking at tvs in a store... they mess with the settings to make whatever tv they want to sell that month look the best. Look up the models you are considering on www.avsforum.com "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

Advice for new jumper in washington state??
Harmless replied to jampacked's topic in Safety and Training
?? I can only speak on behalf of static line, but I'm pretty sure IAD is the same... You only have to be 16 with parental consent [my SIM and IRM are at the DZ, but I checked the online SIM quickly and can't find anything limiting SL/IAD to 18+ (now your DZ can limit whatever they want, we don't take anyone under 18 for any training)] Also as an Oregon native, I'd say you'll have to wait till May for consistent good weather. March and April are hit or miss. "Damn you Gravity, you win again" -
you can have any suit made with any color and design if you can pay for it. "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

Seen a few of em around Alabama... they've been out for a few years now and are really just a compromise between a bike and car... I'd rather go with a convertible. "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

If you do find it cheaper, it won't be by much. And you won't find anyone with better service than Chuting Star. (Not saying no other dealers are not as good, just not better) Edit to add: You're Australian? bigway is the owner of KarnageKrew and is a local Australian dealer that also has a great reputation. [sorry Mike, gotta promote people buying local, you've always got my business

Speaking of gloves - can you help me identify...
Harmless replied to peek's topic in Gear and Rigging
The SGK100 isn't the "best" for the cold, they have different models for that... but I used the SGK100s in March at SD Ogden in Utah during some pretty cold weather. Worked pretty well except for those high altitude hop & pops. (12k foot opening altitude under a Spectre 230 with ground temps under 40F ) They have excellent tactile qualities. I imagine a thin thermal liner underneath would take care of any cold issues. (I no longer live in Utah and I don't think Alabama ever qualifies as cold; even in the dead of winter) "Damn you Gravity, you win again"
