  1. Nothing happens. Its like PMB doesn't recognize the format. I find the calendar setting on PMB really handy to look things up and would like to be able to store everything there for that option. I also like the option to capture stills from my video. I shoot video with about everything I do, not just skydiving.
  2. I have a Sony Handycam that came with the PMB software to load and edit the footage. I now have a GoPro Hero HD. I would like to be able to store all my footage in one place but cant seem to get anything from the GoPro to load to the PMB program. I have tried to reformat the MP4 to AVCHD, AVI and several other formats, but nothing will load. I have even used a couple of different software programs to reformat. Please dont make too much fun of me... Im a little out of touch on hi tech things. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
  3. Ive got a pair of Fox Polar Paw neoprene MX gloves. Im not sure exactly how thick they are, but they are thin enough to feel everything comfortably yet thick enough to keep me warm long enough to jump. Im always open to suggestions though.
  4. Hello Hal Welcome! I know exactly how you feel and how easy it is to get hooked. Now all you need to do is get signed up for lessons and start jumping. Have fun with it and be sure to listen to your instructors.
  5. Thank you all once again for your input on this subject. All of your comments have given me things to think about and Ive already discussed many of them with the DZO his training staff and my rigger. My goal, and I assume everyone on here has a similar goal with skydiving, is to have a great time and live to do it again. Ive always believed that education is extremely important.
  6. Hello, and welcome! I hope I dont sound stupid, but Im not sure where the PC area is... I can tell you that I have had several great weekends jumping at Skydive Utah in Tooele. Jack and the crew made sure I was taken care of and looked after my every need. I do have to admit that I was fresh off student status, but they seemed to handle the students good too. As a noob sport jumper Jack let his experienced guys know about my lack of skills and they all were really helpful and looked out for me. If they arent too far away give em a try!
  7. Congrats on passing AFF!!! 42 is not old. At least I hope 42 is not old... Ill be there in about 8 months. Granny in the sky is a great person to jump with! Ask her about doing a tube exit out of the Caravan... If you get the chance make a few jumps with her. Shes awsome! Welcome!
  8. Thank you for that link. I also put a link on his so he can read what others have commented on here.
  9. I am sorry to hear about your injury. Hopefully you make a full recovery. Someone put the link to this thread on my thread and I think both are good reading. I had a similar issue to yours with a different outcome. Lots of people have given good advice and I appreciate thier input. Once again... Sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you make a speedy and complete recovery. Here is the link to my thread... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=3723691;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;
  10. Once again... Thank you for all your input. I know that each of us have our own ideas, but with all those ideas I hope to learn how to make better decisions in the future. This particular jump turned out to have a good ending, but I want to be as prepaired as possible next time I have to make a decision. Next time I may not be sitting under canopy at 4000 and have all the time I need to evaluate things. Thanks again! Keep em coming!
  11. My mind was really busy with the canopy damage, but something funny... I landed RIGHT where I wanted to. The camera guy was my target and I landed about 50 feet in front of him and ran right up to him. This was probably one of my most accurate landings to date. Go figure. They always did say not to over think things...by not focusing on the landing I landed right where I intended.
  12. I know I keep adding details to this topic, but here is the video of my landing. I know its not perfect, but I was still thinking about the hole in the canopy and not much else. After all... this was my first landing with a damaged canopy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tA8EFuNasLc
  13. Unles the person keeps asking the same type of questions over and over I usually try to chat with them a little about skydiving. After all we are a pretty small percetage of the population. Running into one of us may not be a daily thing for everyone. The one that really got me pissed was a few years ago I was working in a warehouse and when I bought my new rig I had it shipped to my work since we had daily UPS shipping and I was never home during delivery hours. My coworkers all wanted to see it and asked me to put it on. Once I had it on the demanded that I climb up on the roof and jump off to show them how it works. The roof was maybe 30 feet high. They kept asking why it takes 800 feet for it to open? Isnt that dangerous? Dont you want something that works faster? I wouldnt jump anyting that is that slow... I guess some people will never understand...
  14. Welcome to the sport! Sounds like you are going through the learning curve just like the rest of us did. Getting out there and practicing is the best thing you can do. Congrats on getting started so fast! Keep up the good work!
  15. I did brake really hard 3 or 4 times and I didnt do any riser dives but I did both right and left turns with the toggle all the way to my knee and held it for at least a 360. The broken line was in the middle near the tear, not out on an edge. I felt that I had put as much stress on it as a landing flare would and things seemed fine. For some reason I forgot to mention any details about my equipment used. Not sure if it really maters, but Im still new to this forum so please forgive me. The container is a Javalin, main is a Fusion 190 and its a 1.23 wingload (my exit weight is 235). The canopy has been sent off to the manufacture to be inspected, repaired and relined. Several people have commented on why I had such a hard opening... We kinda of believe it was a combination of issues. The way it was packed and the chance that I was still in a track. Thanks for all your input guys!
  16. The rip was about 2 feet long, but only on the bottom layer. The top was not damaged and I could not see sky.
  17. This was my first jump on a new container (Used, but new to me). I have made several jumps on this canopy, but we just put it in this container the night before. My plan was to open pretty high and learn the equipment. I opened at 5000 feet and I had a really hard opening that broke a line and ripped my canopy. Since I was still about 4000 feet I decided to see if it was still stable instead of just chopping it and going to reserve. I hit the brakes really hard several times and put it in a full stall, turned both directions fairly hard and kept a really close eye on the rip. It didnt grow and seemed to fly fine so I made the decision to land it. Once I got below about 2500 I was really easy on it just in case, but thigs went fine and I made a good landing right on target. My questions are... Should I have just cut away? If it didnt tear more with agressive manuvers up high, was I stupid to land it? What would you have done? Ive been skydiving for about 5 years but still under 100 jumps. I believe that learning is something we do forever in this sport so Im looking for other opinions to help me make decions in the future. Im including a pic so you can see the hole in the canopy.
  18. The best reaction Ive gotten at the DZ was when I took my canopy and started attaching it sans harness. Thats right... I was using my nipple rings to attach the 3 ring. I told them I was going to do a bag out exit and I knew the rings would hold because Ive already hung my body weight from them. A few people really started freaking out on me! Seriously... I was just messin with them. I dont remove my piercings, but the other day I took a riser to the side of the head that made me really think about removing the ear rings. It hit me hard enough that my jaw hurt for a week. If it would have hooked on the ring it would have ripped out for sure! When I go shirtless I remove the nipple rings. My chest strap sits just above them, but we all know how gear moves around in freefall.
