  1. Ah yes! That was the very same advice I was told some time ago. Woolite is not easy to come by in the UK, so I have had to import some from the US at great expense. Am quite sure that I could have found an alternative product over here, but I thought it best to be sure. With regard to the Cypres, It's a lovely idea to sell it to help out a jumper who wants one but can't afford a new one, but I feel that if I do this, I will be prohibiting myself from making an easy (or low cost) entry back into the sport (a Cypres appears to cost more here in the UK). Certainly, if it gets to be another year or so and I still haven't made a jump, I'll be selling it... Thanks for everyones advice on this. You've all be a true reflection of the friendly and helpful nature that skydivers are renown for.
  2. Thanks for all these suggestions. Will defo get these things sorted. Any recommendations on washing a container? ....Someone once suggested washing in a luke warm bathtub with a very mild laundry detergent. Whatdya all reckon?

Hey everyone It's a sad time when you face the fact that you haven't jumped for nearly two years and due to other (less fun) stuff taking a temporary precedence in your life, I feel it is time to do something about my gear which has just sat ununsed for too long. Don't worry, I'm not selling it - couldn't possibly. BUT I would like some advice if any of you fantastic and lucky fellow jumpers would be kind enough to offer some.. Basically, what is the *best* way to preserve your container, canopy, etc. It's currently packed and ready to go although the reserve needs repacking and the Cypress probably needs new batteries. I've been wondering about cleaning the container. Any advice on this? If people reckon that it's best to leave the canopies packed in the container, I'll wait and clean the container later. Let us knows Blue skies everyone. I'll be up there before you know it X
  4. I was having a discussion with a friend of mine earlier today. We both have Mirage G3 containers with similar sized canopies. My friend believes that it is best to just place the bag into the container with the lines facing down and the bridle facing up. I believe that it would make for a tighter fit and a bulkier pack and that it wouldn't make a great deal of difference to the opening anyway. I, therefore place the bag in the container and rotate it so that the lines are at the bottom of the container (as per most other types of rig). Any comments???
  5. OK, so the consensus seems to be that it would be of little or no use to most people. What about the benefits to AFF Students? Surely an aid such as this would make it easier for instructors to communicate with them when they are mentally overloaded and not responding to OR not being able to see hand signals. Also, for Free-fly coaches.... Because with free-flying, you are essentially flying multiple parts of your body, hand signals can get really complicated. Would this tool really not be of benefit to both parties? I would of thought that a tool such as this would revolutionize the teaching and training methods within the sport, improve safety on multi-person fun jumps and possibly improve team performance through enhanced levels of communication. Of course, I'm fairly new to this sport so forgive me if I am making too many assumptions. This is only my personal opinion. I would love to hear your opinions.
  6. I am researching into the development of a device that will allow skydivers to communicate whilst in free-fall. I would appreciate any comments regarding the usefulness and practicality of such a device. Your help would be appreciated.
  7. Thanks to everyone who has provided me with help in this post. I have tried all of your suggestions (sit-ups, moving arms back, relaxing, etc.) and they have all helped me hugely. I am now on A.F.F Stage 6 !! Hooray!!!!!
  8. I am currently trying hard to complete my AFF stage 4 in Rotorua, New Zealand. I am having extreme difficulties maintaining a good, stable arch postion, which is possibly due to some lower back problems I have. The most frustrating thing is that the weather hasn't been that good recently and I do have the option to move over to Eastern Australia to complete the course. Do I: A) Stick around here and keep practising on the ground B) Move on to OZ and have to familiarise myself with new equipment and possibly different aircraft Any advice on body exercises to help improve the muscles used to form a good arch would be appreciated also. My main problem is that I let my knees drop down when I am concentrating on other things such as my altitude, turns, etc.
