  1. Hi all, Recently I visited a new DZ on a trip home. After getting manifested I went to the packing shed. I spoke with a cameraman and a TI. Asked them the rules, layout, and many other questions. I asked the landing pattern, where a good setup and play spot is, where not to land. I was told the answers and all that matters is No Wind and Left Hand Pattern. I set up and played the started my pattern, downwind, when I turned left to base I saw that Everyone other than me was doing a right hand pattern. I kept smart and predictable and turned base to final hugging the runway to stay away from Every jumper under canopy. I had a good landing without any issues. Also in freefall I was with one other guy. We hooked up and turned a couple of points. While we both deployed two dudes that were freefalling screamed by us at 4000 ft and deployed below us. It's a scary feeling when you have a canopy opening and someone screams by you under a hundred feet away. Needless to say I allotted time for two jumps here and only did one. I didn't have the safety feeling as at other dropzones. If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  2. In answering this question, I would have to say that yes, they liked the danger aspect of it. I got laid but as a whuffo they had no clue that 50something solo jumps gets me laughed at around the dz! I never lie so I didn't say I was a skygod... Not like it mattered to the hooker I was paying!! If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  3. Throw your rig out first, then try to catch it! Wouldn't be hard to miss after the AAD goes off If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  4. I skydive because there is nothing else that makes life as entertaining. I have done many things that are thrill seeking, Sportbikes, Skateboarding halfpipes, Snowboarding, Skiing, racing dirtbikes (all at the Expert type level) and nothing compares to the OMG I am about to get out of this airplane. To tell you the truth, the only thing that does compare as an adrenalin rush for me is walking up to a strange girl in the bar and striking up the conversation in order to get her home. So I jump for that rush, to be free, to fly, to be limitless for 60 seconds. The greatest thing I can say is that I save my own life. I have been to the war zones, been shot at, mortared, rocketed, driven through downtown Baghdad, and Ramadi during those times that they were extremely nasty and while those things put my life in danger, it was not the same as it is to be in the comfort realm of safety - skydiving If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  5. Strength Training 3 days per week, AB exercises daily. Routines for the day that will help with upper body that take less than 1 minute : Push-ups. Push-up suck, there are two different ways to do them correctly. 1. Hands Below the shoulders when in the push up position will increase the isolation of muscle groups. Keep your arms close to your body and allow your elbows to bend. Do 10 every time you get back from the bathroom. It takes about 8 seconds to do 10 push-ups. Work this into a break routine. 2. The other way that push-ups are done is so that your arms "Chicken wing" Instead of doing a push-up so that your elbows bend towards your feet, your elbows actually bend to your side. This exercise will not isolate the pecks and triceps. Both ways are correct. Keep your back straight, chin up, such as focusing on a receptacle plug in the wall in front of you. Do NOT Arch!!! Chest should bump the floor so that your shoulders break a 90 degree plane. This will help you out as you start getting stronger you will just up the number of push-ups you are doing per set. Strength Training, can be anything that you do to the point of muscle failure. If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  6. Glad to see the Habs there. I have been a big fan since the 90's. I grew up in Vermont and we all know northern vermont is just a canada extension! Thursday night is hockey night in Canada! If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them

  8. I would say that Malfunction dreams are pretty common. Now here was mine. Before I ever wanted to skydive I was working a Military Free Fall Course in Arizona. (little quick history - We commonly go out and get pretty shitfaced every night out there. So I got a little too drunk and since we had extra people to drive the bus I decided to take my turn sleeping off a hang-over in the truck while my buddy did two jobs driving and picking up my slack). So I knew I was going to get my first Tandem that day at the end of the day or when ever the guy had time. Anyone who has jumped MFF knows that the Canopies we use are huge - 370 - 390. The window of the truck was rolled down and all of a sudden I went into that Tandem Skydiving Dream. Don't ask me how a brain could process what happened next so quickly. One of the students had an Extreme hard opening. This shit was so loud it sounded like a jet breaking the sound barrier. At that same time in my dream, the TI and Myself had just Terminal'd right into the ground and BOOM!!! I wake up. Well Hell, I jumped outta the truck, Ran to a Polaris and started chasing down this spiraling Canopy to retrieve it. Later that day at 15,000ft the ramp of the Skyvan opened, the fun jumpers went and there we were, The Cameraman, Myself and the TI. "Are you ready to Skydive?" "Fuck it! Let's go." 10. Only Kenyans are up front running with each other. I mean if you ran from Lions everyday at 8000' Altitude you would be fast too!! They win the Rock and Roll Half Marathon every year in Virginia Beach If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  11. Hrrm, Does this guy play World of Warcraft of Everquest or some shit? I have some friends that are just like this guy sounds. They never want to do anything unless its play these gay Video Games. One guy brags he has spend 2 + Full years of his life in this Everquest game. I agree on his Man Card. Personally 3 ways only interest me in the sky. I do not share well with others. I am not interested in having my dick in anyone but my girlfriend. If you need me to turn my card in for that statement, I would, but we would have to ask Bridget if she will let me get it back. If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  12. This is a scam. If you have ever done online wheelin and dealin this is the classic. I pay you more. you keep or owe me the rest. You would figure that these folks would learn better. Another one is basically from Africa same principal. Good catch though, at least you did not fall for it!! Adam If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  13. new Wings Container, your Basic price is around 1 grand, cheap enough, I am willing to be you can get one with options for 1500 or less. If you can throw in enough to get a new Reserve that would bring your price to around 2600ish. Then you can demo a couple PD canopies, pick up a used AAD and be good for a couple hundred jumps. I never worry about money. I have no bills, no wife, no kids. I bought a new rig before I was off student status. For everyone that says buy used... Look around, there is no rigs that are honestly priced for Newly Licensed jumpers unless it was made in 1990 and then there is no way I am jumping into life saving gear that old. 14. Hey all, I will be traveling down to Mississippi for work in Horn Lake. I am going to try and get away a couple of Saturdays that I am there so that I can come over to West Tennessee Skydiving. I would love to make some contacts while I am there and get in some jumps with you guys. I am a new jumper and do Belly, currently working on some RW skills. I know that this is a while away but like I said, I would love to make some contacts. If anyone travels from Horn Lake/Southaven MS, I would be more than willing to pay for gas for the trip up to WTS. Hell I could get a ride to Memphis easy I just dont want to leave my partner with no vehicle!!! Adam If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  15. ok so it is not a Psycho Pack because I do not roll it up. Everything else about the entire packjob is the same. I just do not sleeping bag roll. I flip it, open it, seperate it, close it fold it, flip it back over, then S-Fold it. So your right, its not a psycho pack. It is a Modified Propack If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  16. In the other thread I was talking about Combining the Psycho Pack and the Pro Pack. Which is how I do it. I was taught how to Pro Pack. I learned Psycho packing, I do not like the rolling, but I S-Fold instead. It works well for me. People see me packing this way and ask why I do it. I would say like I said in the other thread it is because I am new, the canopy is new. I like to know that all my lines are behind the nose where they should be. I like to make sure that my slider is correct and going to catch air first to allow for that soft opening. and maybe for me it is the "best" way that I can achieve all of these things. I will make a video this weekend and post it for Critique. Respectfully, Adam If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  17. This is by far the best packing video that you can get. It matters little that the size of the Canopy. I am new to packing, I have to Psycho Pack my Saber2. The canopy is so slick that I cannot do a pro-pack and I need to pull the tail over everything and secure it with my knees. Make a few folds and I have on heading openings every time. If someone Pro-packs the canopy for me, there is no telling where its going to open. Saber2 - End cell closures every time? Comments on this? I know it is no big deal but just wondering if this is a characteristic of the canopy. If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  18. That is why I Psycho Pack. After I Lay the Canopy on the floor I open the tail up and run my hands up behind the lines and make sure that everything is behind the Nose when I make my two folds. Then I flip it back over and make my S-Folds. My canopy has 20 jumps on it and it is slick as shit, I can Pro-Pack others, but mine is too damn slick. I have a Saber2 and if I Psycho Pack I open on Heading everytime with no issues. If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  19. Well, the cheapest way would to be to start loosing some of that extra you have. Start with walking a mile or two a day, doing some push-ups. Eventually move up to running. Drink lots of water, that is going to be a key. After a month of two you will see that you are getting more and more energy, you will be feeling better as the weight is coming off. We had a guy at our DZ lose 40 lbs so that he could skydive better. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it! If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  20. I had a good time. Even though this is a much smaller DZ, when I am traveling I am just looking for a place to hang out. Talk with folks, get a few jumps in and just have fun in General. I have nothing Bad to say about them down there. Good place, new friends fun times. Adam If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  21. Excellent Dropzone. I arrived at 10 am, needed a little help to get my chute repacked and Jim the DZ Owner was there with hands on to help teach me a different way to pack. I like it. From entering the hanger to landing on the Dropzone. Everyone was more than willing to come and talk, help, and just be plain old friendly. The only thing that I can say, is if you are coming from out of town to jump here make sure that you get the beer before you arrive. It is a Dry county down there and the closest beer for first is 20 miles away : ) Enjoy and thank you Skydive Kentucky for a couple of "Firsts" that I was willing to pay for : ) Adam Gagnon

  23. Greetings, Hey all, my name is Adam and I am going to be traveling down to Shepherdsville to do some work at Knox. I am going to head out to Skydive Kentucky Saturday morning and try and get a few jumps in. I have never jumped a Cessna so there's a case of beer! If there is anyone that will be around the area let me know I would like to hook up and get in a few jumps. I just got my "A" License so if you do not want to jump with me that is cool, just looking for a crowd to hand out around! Drop a message or PM me and I will get back to you guys and girls. I just don't want to sit in a hotel room all weekend and get trashed! Adam If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  24. "Shot bag" weights are widely used to help hold things in place while packing as you move from working on one part of a canopy to another. Shot bag weights are somewhat flexible, and will conform to the shape (to some extent) of whatever you put them on. For example, as you are flaking fabric on one side of a canopy, and now need to flake the other side, you might put shot bag weights on the part you are about to leave. The part that you are about to leave will likely not have a uniform thickness. In the case of flaking fabric of the parachute cells, the lines will be towards the middle of the pack job and will create a thicker area. The semi-flexible shot bag weight will be able to conform to the shape of what you put it on better than a solid bar of stock. In addition, even powder coated bar stock will likely be less compatible with the parachute fabric than a shot bag that is made of some sort of fabric. I encourage you to spend some time with a rigger. Many (if not most) will be happy to show you the sorts of things that go into caring for your rig at the time of the Inspection & Repack. Thanks Paul, I appreciate you taking the time to explain what is going on with the Rigger Repack. I did not understand what is going on because of my lack of experience. I actually work in the Navy and I have been going over to the Rigger Loft to talk to the guys for a while now. I am good friends with a lot of PR's so they will help when I have questions. The experience level at the place I work is through the roof. I have seen them packing the reserves but did not really understand what is going on. I got a good class from a couple of my friends about why, what, how and pretty much everything that goes on with packing the main. Psycho, Trash, Pro Packing, these guys pretty much know all of the questions that I ask. I understand how you say that most Riggers with show me whats up : ) Respectfully, Adam If you do things that don't make you appreciate life than why do them
  25. I am not too familiar with what these weights are used for in the Reserve packing. But if you need a few pounds or more weight why not call your local steel shop and get some 2" x 2" bar? I think that the weight on this mild steel is 10 or 11 lbs per foot. Then take this to a motorcycle shop and have them powder coat it. Powder Coating has gotten a lot cheaper and the steel is cheap enough, hell you could weld a handle on it too if you wanted. Price of steel + powder coating cant run more than 35 - 45 dollars for 2 20 lb bars. I think that if you buying small pieces like this too they might cut you a break if you tell them that you could use the scraps. Just a thought from a guy who has no clue what you are looking for.
