I've got about 100 on my 135 and I absolutely love it. I'm at about 1.35 and it's a forgiving, fun anf exciting canopy. With the added responsiveness I'm getting to really learn the dynamics of canopy flight and feel safe because of the designs nature. I would reccomend this canopy to family I love it so much. Just a fun canopy. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

Great choice. I used to own a Jevelin and it was a fine rig. It just didn't offer all the features of a Vector and I've never worn a rig as comfortable as my little Micron. I love it. And the leg padding really makes a difference on cross countries. Beleive me. You would notice a difference. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

I would like to have experienced it myself so I knew what you were referring to but after almost 300 jumps on my old spectre the only weird openings I had were ones where I forgot to stow a toggle. Other than that every opening was soft, consistent and on heading. There was always a bit of a dip as I released to toggles into full flight, but I actually miss that now that I'm on my Sabre2. Oh yeah. It's quiet today and 5:00 is just not coming fast enough. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

For Skydivers with Pillow Reserve: Same or Different color as Cutaway?
JFC3 replied to BluDvn222's topic in Gear and Rigging
Mine match my rig (tie dye royal and black) with D'Oh! on the cutaway and Woo Hoo! On the Reserve. "Five days? But I'm angry now!" -
I have to agree with hookitt. If for the simple reason for your own sake. Make a jump with him and your blood may settle. He may hold the same opionion as before but you may find it's hard to stay mad at someone you've just jumped with and thereby easing the tension you feel. jmo "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

Newbie Gear Question: Spectre, Triathalon, or ??
JFC3 replied to Clownburner's topic in Gear and Rigging
hey. I put almost 300 jumps on my spectre 170 (1:1) and loved it. Take one Sabre opening and the snivel will NOT bother you. the Triathalon would not be a canopy I would reccomend only because I had a friend who jump one. Jump after jump he landed hard. Over a 100 jumps before he tried anything else too because he thought it was him with the problem. As soon as he tried a Sabre 2 he realized it was the canopy. It's hybrid and it just doesn't have the best flare. Try an Icarus (if you want) but a spectre or even a sabre 2 (but you'll never find one that big used) would be what I would tell a friend to demo. One the first things that pops into mind is how damn comfortable the leg straps are under canopy. This may seem insignificant (and had always too me) but I went from Javelin to the Micron and there is a major difference. Also the way they cut their yoke is just ingenious. Of all the things all the other manufacturers have stolen from RWS I wonder why more haven't hit upon this. Now it may not make a difference doing belly work, but free flying it makes a significant difference. My last two rigs (the Javelin before and the Micron now) were both custom cut for me. While I never feared the Javelin coming off it would alway snake off my shoulders in a sit or slide back and forth on my back during the jump. The Micron is always right there. I was amazed after the first jump and haven't thought about it since (which I did on every jump with the Javelin). It's freed me to concentrate more on the jump. Customer service at RWS was remarkable. Akin to what you would receive at PD. Marc, Gwen, Rosi and the whole gang over there took care of all my nagging questions and assured my every concern. I had my handles embroidered and there was a typo on the cutaway. I wrote and told them of the error and they replaced it within a week and a half. Then I was completely satisfied. I wish I could show you how this thing came out too. It's seriously beautiful. And I'm not saying that as the proud owner. Soon after I got it I brought it to my DZ and then travelled south for some jumping and everywhere I've gone I've gotten the best comments on how it came out. I have become so in love with the attention to detail, the magnificent quality, the great construction of this rig that I douubt very highly that I will ever jump another container system again. I will reccomend this to every one I know and to even those I don't. If you want the best go for a Micron.

As I'm sure someone has mentioned by now spectres are only 7 cells but a really great canopy. I had over 250 jumps on mine before i changed up and would recommend it to anyone. fun to fly. great openings. great control. if you choose the spectre I'm sure you will have tons of great jumps on it. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

Nah. It's not fast enough. I was convinced it was a 150. But sure enough it's a 135. Need more speed! "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
-
Yeah, I'm just a synic. I can put a lable on something but that doesn't make it what the lable says, you know? The lable says one thing I just want to confirm it. I mean couldn't I make a 150 meaning to make a 135 and then stick a 135 lable on it when I was finished simply because I thought that's what I had done? Of course I'm crazy, but I knew that already. Simply, if I lay out my main, how do I figure out what size it is? Thanks. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

would you get out of the plane if?
JFC3 replied to bodypilot90's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I also agree with what's been said here. Especially about stepping aside and letting the pushy ones out first. But, just to play devils advocate, the spot takes into consideration uppers which will make one drift or not drift. This may, I stress may because I've been on loads with premature greens too, be why you could not see the DZ when the light went on. When leaving I will give the pilot the benefit of the doubt the first time and as long as I see no traffic and a clear spot to land if I had to I'll go. If I'm hosed I won't be so trusting the second time, but I'd also be sure to make my complaint at manifest. Honestly almost every time I make it back. Whether I have to work it all the way back or I'm right over top. In all my jumps (400+) I may have landed off (not on purpose) maybe two or three times. And without remembering them all that clearly I'll lay dollar to donuts they were either the first load or jumps where the uppers picked up or dropped off. "Five days? But I'm angry now!" -
It's a 135 in a V308. It's in there snug but not jammed by any count. Now both main and container are brand, spankin' new. So what I'm doing right now is not closing it but leaving the canopy in the d-bag and having the first (top) flaprest on it. It's an attempt to train it like I did my old baseball gloves when I was a kid. I'm going to close her up now and see how it goes again. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

Just got a new rig and because of the wind lately I haven't been able to jump it. So, of course, I began playing with it. And the first thing I did was lay it on the ground and pull out the pilot chute and hold the bridle. The pin came out, the flaps opened but the d-bag didn't leave the container. The top flap was still down and it couldn't get above it. So I pulled harder to the point that I lifted the entire rig off of the ground. I even shook it around before it finally came out. Well this didn't sit well with me. The rig weighs 15 lbs. Shouldn't this bag come out more easily than that? Any advice is appreciated. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

Now I may be wrong, but there are no "fully" eliptical canopies. They're all tapered to one degree or another. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

Lost in the Gulf and no skydiving...SEND pictures!
JFC3 replied to MiataDRM's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Are you getting your copy of Parachutist out there? I'd be fine with sending you mine if you want to PM me the address to send it to. And he's not a soldier (by what he said anyway) he's a Marine. There's a difference. Stay safe and thanks! "Five days? But I'm angry now!" -
No, but I will state I know plenty of people that do. I've never been to a DZ where when the beer light went on there wasn't a rush to the keg. I smoke too but I think it interferes with skyudiving and would love to quit. I'm starting to think I'm addicted though. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

You can make out the binding tape around the reserve flap. I'm pretty sure it's just a clear flap. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

I'm with you on the Mirage being ugly as sin - I'm pretty sure it's fact too. I'll check with the Pope next time we have drinks. But (and not to bash) I think Wings is ugly too. Uglier than Mirage. It may be just the one's I've seen. I just bought a new micron and I was worried because Vectors are not the prettiest either but I'm totally impressed by the way mine has turned out. I'll try to post some pics this weekend to prove I'm not just defending my purchase. I bought the Micron because of it's size, construction, durability and the people behind the name. RWS uses the best materials on the market and even has exculsive deals with some suppliers. Other manufactuers (like Mirage) have to order through RWS or go with a lower quality product. Product testing and development are a major reason I bought them too. It's why I exclusivly fly PD too. They built it well. Test it. Sell it and continue to test it over and over. A tour of their factory made me a believer. Not to mention their innovations are on going. Sure Bill Booth came came up with the three-ring harness system, but they've done so much more. Reserve deployment system, riser protection, container construction. You should check out the pillow handles on a micron versus any other rig. They almost beg to be pulled. I like my rig so much that on my upcoming vacation to FL I'm going to pop into RWS and thank them for such an impressive job. I hope I remember to post those pics...did I ramble here? "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

Oh God that's hideous!! Blech! How dare you post such a disgusting picture. Keep those pictures of Kim to yourself please. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

I got the same thing. I got all the options. Best rig on the market. PM me if you want my opinions on the new rig. It's beautiful. You want it - they supply it. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
-
Fuck it. My buddy's first rig said "Joseph." Who the hell cares. If idiots care say it's the name of the rig - not yours. Like MArge's ball Homer. Dude. Get a rig. If it wors who cares if it's the uglietst thing in the world. Can you affoard it? Will it work? But it. This sport doesn't demand perfection. Will you live? Forget about. Real skydivers don't care what you wear. They care what you learn and can do. Or visa versa. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

I weighed 170 without gear on my first rig. I bought a 170 spectre. Loved it. Don't screw yourself. You can play it super safe and get a conopy 12 sizes too big or get a 1:1 and live with it. Get a 150. You can learn it. Or live to buy another day. I'm sick of people playing it too safe. I love listening to people who jump out of planes who are unwilling to then take a chance. Demo, bro. Try it on a jump or two. Can you take it? No! Go bigger. Scary? Go smaller. Don't kill yourslef. But if you REALLY want to play it safe...don't get in that plane in the first place. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
