ok... but it looks like he is in a fairly hard right hand turn at that time and may just be trying to even it out? I don't doubt that's what he was trying to do. How's that saying go? "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want." Should he have waited it out longer? ..and do you think the outcome would have been different if he didn't pull down on the riser at all? *I am not afraid of dying... Dramamine can make you drowsy and sluggish, slowing your responsiveness. I would advise against that. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.---- -

EVERYONE should barrel roll.
ridestrong replied to ridestrong's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have seen plenty of people perform barrel rolls just for fun during tracking dives: without losing altitude, without losing tracking speed/distance, and without losing heading... it's actually not that difficult after some practice. I'm no skygod and don't have any mad skills, just saying it can be done. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.---- -
"Your breaking my balls... Hey, just like the fetuses, I wasn't born yesterday." Didn't even have to watch the clip.. That episode is hilarious. Wrong on many levels, but hilarious. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----

EVERYONE should barrel roll.
ridestrong replied to ridestrong's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
On big way jumps where it is agreed (or goes without saying) that no one is to barrel roll is one thing. But when talking about other jumps such as speed stars and large tracking dives it is not unlikely that some will not make it down to the base or lead tracker and end up above other jumpers at break off. Planning, while necessary, will not always insure that someone doesn't end up above you. On most tracking dives the jumpers track away from anyone that would have exited prior and not likely have anyone below them at pull time, but can more likely have a straggler above them. In this case a barrel roll after scanning ahead and below during track seems reasonable. On larger speed stars again it is not uncommon to have a straggler above you at break off. In this case since you are tracking away from a 'base' it may make more sense to use the look over your shoulder as you track away method. *I am not afraid of dying... Many feminist groups are upset about the term 'man-hole' referring to the ports used to access the spaces under our streets and roads..., arguing that both men and women utilize these ports. I'm looking for opinions here... I'm sure as shit not trying to give ANYONE advice. I was hoping for more intelligent answers like the one davelepka gave above (in post #4), but they are proving to be hard to come by. Maybe the better question would have been: Is there any place for the barrel roll before pull time? I like davelepka's alternative to the barrel roll and plan to implement it. Can any one defend the use of barrel roll anymore for ANY jump or is it just something we should do to learn stability correction in AFF? *I am not afraid of dying... Then why did you bother to add to the redundancy??? If we didn't reopen some discussions there would be little to talk about in these threads. If you don't like the topic at hand go somewhere else, your not required to reply. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.---- -

EVERYONE should barrel roll.
ridestrong replied to ridestrong's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ok, I don't believe everyone should barrel roll all the time. The title was more of a 'draw-in' statement. However it seems as though an efficient barrel roll can serve a beneficial purpose on any jump, whether it's just a two way or a big way. For example, we all know that a jumper can inadvertently enter another group of jumpers airspace, where those jumpers were not intending on checking their backs before pulling. There seems to be a number of people here who are 'anti barrel roll'. Just wanted to dedicate (or reopen) a thread to discussing the advantages and disadvantages of the barrel roll. I find on the jumps where I don't barrel roll, I feel like I am ignoring the airspace above me, even if I 'know' no one should be there. ETA: Post intended to discuss barrel roll at pull time. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.---- -
AWESOME!!!! yeah, yeah... it's my dirty laundry, but this maybe the most entertaining 'show' on TV today. (then again I am easily entertained by the simple things in life). I beg to differ, I grew up in Houston... its pronounced just like it looks. Funny thing about being from Houston... not too many people know how to pronounce Kuykendahl Rd. No... actually the street name in NYC is pronounced (house-ton).. ---- The street name Houston confuses many people from outside of New York (invariably becoming one of the easiest signs of spotting tourists) because the letters "ou" are pronounced as in the word house (pronounced /ˈhaʊstən/), whereas the same letters in the name of the city of Houston, Texas are pronounced like the "u" in huge (pronounced /ˈhjuːstən/ or /ˈjuːstən/, "HYOO-stin"). This is because Houston Street was named for William Houstoun (note that the spelling is different), before the fame of Sam Houston, for whom the city in Texas is named. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston_Street_%28Manhattan%29 Doh! Tourist! ...and if ya didn't know, now ya know. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----

I lived in NYC and here are some MUST DO's: 1. In the evening just before sun sets walk to the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge.. The view is amazing during the day and at night. You can see the entire city, all the bridges on the East river, the Statue of Liberty. Then go over to the Brooklyn side of the bridge and walk down to the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, best ice cream in the city, plus it is located in one of the most famous film locations in the entire city. 2. If you like Italian food... one of my favorite places is Vincents in Little Italy, they have the best spicy marinara in the world, plus it's cool to experience little Italy. 3. For some fun nightlife you can go anywhere... but there is an area that I like starting at the corner of Houston (pronounced house-ton) and Ludlow that has ~4 blocks of straight bars and lounges, everything from biker bar to martini lounge. Then theres everything else that you can just get a brochure for. Walking or biking along the Hudson bike path is pretty nice too. #1. Make sure to walk the Brooklyn Bridge if it is the only thing you do!!!!!!! *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----

I also went to la corrida (bullfight) when I was in Madrid a few years ago. While I was glad I was able to experience that aspect of Spanish history/culture, I agree it should be banned. The bull fights are barbaric and involve little 'sport'. For those that have not actually been to a bull fight, it goes something like this: First the bull is sent out into the arena where there are ~3 or so padded horsemen with long spears. These horsemen stab and spear the bull until it is bloody and weakened. After further tormenting the Matador will come out to face the already battered bull. The matador will then attempt to stick ~4 pronged stakes into the back of the bull, when the bull is weakened to the point where it is mostly just standing around the matador will then attempt to kill the bull by sticking a dagger into the back of the bulls neck/spine... this does not always instantly kill the bull and it will often suffer before final death.. the bull is then tied up by the horns and drug around the area by horses a few times. oh yeah, and they kill 6 or so bulls in 1 event. *I am not afraid of dying... Density of Moist Air - an Air Vapor Mixture The amount of water vapor in air influences density. Water vapor is a relatively light gas compared to diatomic Oxygen and diatomic Nitrogen - the dominant components in air. When water vapor content increases in the moist air the amount of Oxygen and Nitrogen decreases per unit volume and the density decreases because the mass is decreasing. and The density of air varies as the temperature and moisture content in the air varies. When the temperature increases the higher molecular motion results in an expansion of the volume and thus decreasing the density. http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/density-air-d_680.html *I am not afraid of dying... Humid air will be lower density than drier air. It seems counter intuitive, but it is true. Huh???? humid air is of lower density - it's a fact. H20 atomic weight is lower then "average" atomic weight of the air. since for any given temperature and pressure there is the same number of molecules in the given volume of the gas, in humid air some of the heavy "air molecules" are replaced by lighter water molecules, thus lowering overall atomic weight of the moist air and making it less dense. airplanes perform the worst on hot humid days, when air density is the lowest. I believe it... but it sure is counter intuitive like he said. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----
