unfortunately with a bridle-wrapped PC that only guarantees the main container will be open... though the upside is that it's not enough drag to a)lift anything out of the container or b) inflate the main once you open and the bag falls out. also unfortunately it's REALLY tough to know that at the time... fortunately.... bridle knotting the PC isn't all that common, thank goodness

None of the reported fatalities since 1990 (according to skydivingfatalities.com) were due to a pc in tow and then a main-reserve entanglement due to not cutting away. There are M/R rntanglements on there, but not from PC in tow. They ARE missing a couple of years in the early 90s, but have been pretty thorough since then AFAIK. sure.... now how about if the spot is off or the winds pick up or you open low and suddenly you have to land in the local baseball field that is surrounded by fence and suddenly you're here on this canopy that flys 2x as fast as you're used to with a completely different glide ratio that loses a lot more altitude in the tight turns you'll have to make to land safely... and i'm being REALLY nice by giving you a whole baseball field... could have been someone's backyard. Don't fly a canopy based on being able to land it in the "right" conditions, fly one based on being able to land it in the WRONG conditions. The right conditions are completely ungauranteed really, like having someone under canopy with you? cool!! i'll go tell that 4'11" girl who just graduated she should be on a 120!!! I agree, but that was only one illustration of the problems that can arise, others have already been addressed here. main risers choking off reserve has happened to a lot more than just Mike Mcgowan, he's just someone that everyone knows and thus the only instance people ever hear about. Tell me how many entanglements you've seen from 2-out... NOT from an already malfunctioning main but just pc in tow, or someone goes low & dumps their main too late for their AAD, etc... I've seen a lot of 2-out scenarios, never seen an entanglement. Not saying it doesn't happen or isn't possible, but i think 2-out it's a lot more routine than lots of newbies seem to think (yes, i'm counting you in there). From what i've seen, read and taken from the advice of a bunch of people who have been around this sport a HELL of a lot longer than me, i choose to go to right to silver. ummm... NO! once again..... You're taking a big ball of nylon fabric and a bunch of string, tossing it out into 120MPH worth of wind, and expect it to do the same thing every time? not gonna happen. You can be as meticulous and careful as you like while packing, and sometimes shit just happens. get back on the horse buddy.... get to the dz as fast as you can and get back on the horse. I had the same thing happen at zhills a year and a half ago... got down and found the bridle half-hitched around the edge of the pilote chute.. lazy toss or just bad luck? who knows, but shit still happens even when you don't fuckup. that can go both ways, though.... old-timer i know had a pc in tow back in the arly 80s... went to silver, had a reserve total... about 800 ft the main finally popped out.... what if he'd cut away? i don't have any more of the details like WHY the reserve total or if he was beating up his rig to finally dislodge the main, i should go ask... ummmm.... my Nvertigo X liners come out and came with a padding kit.. Well, the top comes all the way out and the sides are fized to the fron but can be gotten behind (for hookin up audibles, routing cameye wires, etc..) Hogwash, hogwash, hogwash! Wingloading numbers do not scale well! And 1.3 is pretty high for most young jumpers on a 170, it's HUGE on a 120.... that's just asking to get people hurt. I learned at a progressive DZ, but damn. go find some of the players from Clan Supergodlike, if they still play UT, and come back with scores like that and i'll be impressed most un-freaking-believable players i've ever seen, our clan did really well on the ladders until we came up against them...we were scored 1 flag cap against them in 2 rounds and were glad for it. BTW, for UT2K3 get yerself a geforce4 ti4200 with 128megs and you'll be fine on your 1.33 Athlon, that's what i run, and while you can't do 1600x1200 with everything turned up, it's buttery at 1024x768 though if you CAN upgrade yer chip go for it.. but it's almost summer, dude.... sped the $$ on jumps!
