Thank you Michelle - and I applaude your self-control while writing your post. This thread is starting to make me feel nauseous. Whatever your feelings on suicide, and how you would or wouldn't do it (which is a ridiculous thing for most people to say anyway, as they have very little idea what it would actually be like to make that desicion), why can't you meatheads out there refrain from insulting Alistair and his memory. Sure, put your point across, but PLEASE take peoples feelings into consideration. Tonto - "no one should be stuck with someone like that" - so you knew Alistair did you? NO! Ali was a very cool, helpful, kind, fun person who has a lot of friends who read these post, and we do not need thoughtless folk like you coming on here and calling a recently deceased friend a "F****ing Idiot", I agree that suicide is a very selfish act, but so is thoughtlessly insulting people you know nothing about. We have found the easiest way to get the basic 8 for a vSCR award is 4-way belly base with 4 hangers. Once that is built the vSCR is built and any stingers you can get on there is a bonus. As said above, the single-person key is critical for getting all the hangers down together. Have them think about pushing hips forward when they go to the stand, or do a staged drop - go from belly to sit to stand. But it is a shame to see how many experienced freefliers have difficulty docking on their belly quickly to get into the hanging positions....(and I am definately included in this group!). Totally!! That mother/son relationship was a great moment - but not nearly as sweet as seeing that (obviously divorced!) In the UK, grounding straps are everywhere. I too get bad-ass shocks over here in the US and have been to a few of the bigger auto-part shops but have not been able to find one. I contacted the seller (just to warn him to put the usual "Not responsible if you break yourself" spiel, and also so I could be a nosey bugger and see where he got the canopy - this is what he said: "I bought this at a lost freight auction. When goods are shipped, the label can fall off and it ends up undeliverable, It is damaged and an insurance claim is paid, a pallet of boxes can be damaged on one corner- leaving 3/4 of the items in mint condition. This could be new from the factory, lost in transit on it's way to or from repair." I heard (and it was a while ago, so maybe slightly hazy) that after giving blood, you quite quickly regain the volume of blood you loose but it takes quite a while longer for your blood to regain its full oxygen carrying capabilities, and this is the reason that in the UK they recommend not jumping for a number of months after giving blood. My favourate brainfart was early on after my transition from rounds to squares - in fact I think I was jumping my ragged out Pegasus 220. Canopy opened, some end-cell closure, but that was normal, but the damned slider was stuck down!! Spent the whole canopy ride pumping the brakes to get the sucker to go up, but it was stuck down! So prepared for landing, which was about as soft as that canopy would give me, and it wasn't until I was halfway through telling someone about my near-death canopy ride that it hit me!! Ooops !!! . If they're not inventing weird winged suits for jumping out of planes with, or hanging on the back of buses with skates on, they're figuring out new ways to use PLFs off buildings and bridges!! HINT: When you are tightening the balls, use a cloth/towel/t-shirt/whatever to hold both balls with (please restrain yourselves with the ball holding jokes!!) This will give you better grip and you can put them on tighter. Use same technique to get them off. And if they come off again....spit, don't swallow. Make sure you plan well and that you AND EVERYONE ELSE ON THE LOAD knows what the plan is. Make sure you know what the spot is going to be and check it. Make sure that you open reasonbly high (and make that part of the plan). Make sure the plan gives everyone LOTS of seperation, both vertically and horizontally. A great thing to have are the red flashing lights cyclists have - wear a couple of them on you and people will see you coming. Make noise - shout, sing etc - to let people know where you are. Make sure there is lots of light on the landing area (car headlights usually). Keep an eye on the landing area on the climb to height so you know exactly what you are looking for. And love the experience - its such a strange place to be at night night! Visuals rock!! Sorry if I have repeated what everyone else has said but I havent read the post, just giving my .02!
