  1. Yes there is a downside, it's giving you the false sense of not worrying and saying its ok not to jump for long periods of time! But seriously, never really thought of that and seems like a good idea Depending upon where you store your rig perhaps in a closet or whatnot shouldn't be a problem so long as your pc isn't near a high "movement" area where things could be potentially snag on it while getting something. 2. Funny how i was literally just searching for speed flying classes in Cali and this thread shows up! Will be sending ya an email soon! I'll be coming from across the small pond they call the pacific ocean ;) Really have been wanting to BASE more than anything but the thought of a 40 min pack job scares me! Speed flying does look ridiculously amazing! You wouldn't also teach BASE would ya? Regardless, looking forward to meeting ya in June! 3. Taken from the photography forum from a buy named BASE1179 Personally I find this the perfect setup with perhaps a change of camera and lens though preferable with Nikon or Canon For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  4. Ding, ding, ding ... we have a winner. which is why at the end I said "Perhaps it could even be DZ to DZ allowed to do so depending upon air traffic, location and outs?" Aka a case by case basis @Skyper...what country would that be if you don't mind saying For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  5. http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/11/world/asia/indonesia-earthquake/index.html 8.7 magnitude earthquake off the coast of northern Indonesia with it being felt all the way to Singapore, Malaysia and parts of Thailand A Tsunami warning and immediate evacuation is in effect for Phuket, Thailand and the surrounding areas. 6. Yup, I have heard about that tragic story before. There are however a few things though that I would like to point out. 1) 1967....the technology and safety has come a long long way. Skydiving has become ever more safe and controllable. 2) Again its 1967 and they were jumping Para-Commanders (which is a round canopy for those that don't know) Unlike today's modern parachute you can cover miles depending what direction the wind is coming from and where you are aiming towards even just from 4,000 ft! 3) Only 1 out of the many had an actual flotation device which is another reason why so many of those people died. While in today's standards if people are jumping near large bodies of water flotation devices are required as they should be. 4) People have/jump with cell phones nowadays and could make a phone call for help while still under canopy if need be. Some phones are even built rugged and can be called despite being wet! There is also SPOT a GPS device that if activated a search and rescue helicopter/car will come looking for your gps coordinates (not sure if anyone actually jumps with one or not) but just accentuating the technological safety improvement. 5) Water training is standard in order to progress to a higher level license nowadays. Not too sure if it was mandatory back in 1967 My point being, we have come along ways with a plethora amount of knowledge regarding safety and a deeper understanding of our canopies and advanced body positions and flying techniques (wind tunnels). I don't see how we can't safely implement the jumping through clouds ordeal. Europeans manage to do it so why can't we? Perhaps it could even be DZ to DZ allowed to do so depending upon air traffic, location and outs? Or perhaps making jumping through clouds B or C license and above only just like beach landings. 7. So what was this "new" gear/stuff never seen before magically released at the expo? DO TELL DO TELL! For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  8. European countries jump the clouds all the time I don't see why we couldn't just adopt similar methods/standards. I was recently at a dropzone where we were on a weather hold and there was a European world record holder shaking their head and saying that back home the current cloudy conditions would be perfectly acceptable to jump. I could only imagine MOST of the DZO's would be behind/supportive of jumping through clouds as they would have more fun jumpers constantly around and able to do more loads and tandems all while making more money and making other jumpers happy.(plus tandems love bragging about falling through clouds) Just make sure the GPS is working and accurate with a seasoned jump pilot ;) For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  9. Guess no one went to this event last year despite all the 400-500ish random people who "relaxed" at the DZ huh? For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  10. Ask for this guy ^ (above) awesome flyer, organizer and coach! For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  11. Yup, dave is right on around 8-10 ish during regular weekday jumping. Though Thurs - Sunday they have amazing organizers to jump with. And if for some reason it's dead then you could always drive 25min out to Perris and see what is happening there or just hit up the tunnel there if its raining and what not. 12. If he's got the jump numbers perhaps a Katana 170 for much more responsive canopy For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  13. You missed the best possible time to come and jump in Elsinore as there was a group of 90 europeans from Norway, Sweden, Germany, Slovenia etc here for a Freefly camp called flyfly. Averaged 40 loads during the weekdays for the past 2 weeks non stop For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  14. Is this for real done by "THE JARNO"? Or just another bloke named Jarno? Is this fake or some sort of hoax? If not.....my jaw just dropped and cracked itself on the floor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYW5G2kbrKk&feature=player_embedded For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  15. Was that for me or the OP? Either way I agree with your statement informed decisions are always better. I knew about the "things" before I planned my trip and well aware of the situation. I still reckon that it's better than the plane I've been jumping out of here in asia lol For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  16. You should focus on scuba in Thailand if you do scuba or sightseeing. That place has been closed for almost a year. There is another place to jump though up north but only cessna 172 for $49 a pop to 10k (mssg me if you want someone to jump with I'll join ya if you do decide to jump there...they're looking to get a caravan not sure when). Funny as it seems like so many people are coming to Thailand in April that I know and many Asian jumpers are going to Cali or Australia. link below for website and info http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4282423#4282423 For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  17. What that guy said. I just moved to Asia from the States and tired of just doing H&P's from a 172 that costs $49. I'm going to Lodi hoping to do 100 jumps in 2ish weeks leaving in 2 days. $1,300 for 100 jumps or $650 for 50 jumps can't beat that. They've also got 3 or 4 different planes 15ish loads during the weekdays and around 40ish on the weekends from what I've been told. 18. Yea most definitely, but will only be in the (lodi) area till April 2nd. Lemme know! For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp

  20. Majority of the time you don't have your hands through the toggles anyway prior to cutting away (opening line twist etc) Other scenario's you are correct once you are flying your canopy and perhaps have a mid collision bad bad news. OTOH I'm quite sure the 2nd poster was saying "hooking" as "in his hands palms down" NOT going to the wrist. I personally would say that flying with the toggles till your wrist is scary, dangerous and not smart at all. How would you cutaway in the event of a collision or how do you fly full flight without having the toggles come off? 21. You forgot to add "SkyGod" to that list ! For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  22. In a recent forum a guy mentioned a butt strap, perhaps a bungee wasn't sufficient for him. Has anyone wore any spine protection such as POC Spine ERGO under their jumpsuit without any problems with flying? Flexible enough? I wonder if any spine protection could be built into future rigs? I suppose most people that it would help (swoopers) usually extend their chest strap which just about almost has their rig off their back anyhow...hmmm For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  23. Congrats Charlie and good luck with your new DZ! Hope to come jump there sometime! Now get off dz and enjoy your spectacular week ahead of you with your special lady and congrats on freeing the man!! 24. I like your thinking! Feel free to post your leg strap/butt strap idea here http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=4009846;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; There are some interesting legitimate ideas I saw there. Any sort of idea's in one location I think is great, also allows the manufacturers to see potential improvements and get ideas from the consumers and potentially implement it within their rigs. Actually right around the time I mentioned my leg straps loosening up while in the plane or walking to the plane with my rig a manufacturer offered a non-slip option right around the time I wrote it(already developed but with another manufacturer)! I thought that was amazing having that option! For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  25. Dude! Move it to Europe make it in June and I'll join you! haha Don't forget that getting to a DZ you'll have to have your gear constantly checked and become familiar with the area before jumping, it'll definitely take some time. I'd say maybe perhaps just go as far as CO? That way you'll be way more relaxed spend a 1-2 days at each dropzone and make it back in time as apposed to simply driving for a full week round trip. Better be borrowing a prius haha Lemme know what you end up doing For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
