  1. Alas there are very few ways of changing the policy on wingsuit experience prior to flying the big wings. So education through the community is key so I welcome this post. Even if the limits were trippled people would still buy the suits, very hard for manufacturers to verify. So existing birds need to encourage healthy progression that suits experience level not the latest shiny toy simply because its there. When I first flew the GS1 in 2005 it was a monster; 1st suit I ever flew with wings from wrist to ankle and its a whole new flight input. Previously started on Classic in 2001 200 jumps Skyflyer 1 300 jumps Vampire V1 200 jumps Jii Wings GS1 200 jumps New toy very soon If you rush through the suits you miss the opportunity to firstly learn the wing, like a pilot you dont fly a cessna 180 and then jump in a Beech 99. To understand effects from body position deep spots, flat turns, back flying aerobatics etc etc takes a long time and some weird visuals along the way. I'd far rather a learning curve over a long period of time as to arriving at school day one and sitting my degree at the end of the week. Enjoy the journey its a lot of fun and you can fly the wings a lot better and dial them in once you have flown lots of different ones far more effectively as you feel the wing and start to recognise the nuisances that allow its real flight control and performance. We are in a reverse age likely canopis from late 80-90's must go smaller now its must go bigger and as XRW has shown we are now meeting in the middle. Sp please dont rush it and if your backflying in big suits please be symetrical, though the video was nice. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  2. Am sure you will get specific info from manufacturer, however I suspect they are there to provide a constant aerofoil leading edge, the Human arm isnt that effective compared to a consistent leading edge and the foam inserts usually help this. Cheers Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  3. Hopefully links below makes sense one has a hardrive one does not. And no didnt confuse HD with Hard drive lol, both are full High Definition. It was just the 155 Xr vs Cr bit that I assumed was fundamentally te same camera bar the hardrive in one and npt the other. I'll go for the CR. Sony HDR-XR155 Hard Drive HD Camcorder http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/77165/show.html Sony HDR-CX155 HD Camcorder http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/77459/show.html Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  4. Thanks for the swift answer. The choice appears simple! Thanks Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  5. Any issues with capture between these two. Currently looking to change from my PC1000 to HD and the 155 looks good, however since have been in pC tape world forever I know zip. So pros cons and thoughts welcome there is onlt $75 or £50 between them so be sueful to knwo. Thanks for any info Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  6. I have the 500D and have used it for a laugh, Its fine, however for me the setup is for stills not video. It will do the job but I still use my old pc1000 yet to transfer to HD (impending). So yes you can use it but its not ideal. Cheers F Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  7. Just to be ultra clear the frame grab is not 10MP you have to switch to the stills mode to take a 10mp image and as already expressed, the lense quality and setup on the video Vs a decent DSLR is not even in the same state let alone ball park. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  8. So what your saying is this film is not bad ;) LOL Looking forward to getting my hands on a copy
  9. I have had a GS1 for 3 years now and have a lot of fun on it, it was the first of the modern big wings and flies well but requires tiny inputs, I think how I fly more fly with my body if that makes sense. Super symmetry is very important and moving from a wingsuit with wings that go from wrist to hips to one with wrist to ankles. Is a different ball game, not a beginners suit but lots of fun and you can fly super slow. taken it to 35mph so far. Gearing up pretty straight forward and deployment is fine, as long as your symmetrical and clean as on any wingsuit flight.
  10. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AQLM9ZLpBMw Some test swoop footage. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  11. Unfortunatly that is rarely ever the case, and if you do just hurt yourself someone else is always going to have to come and pick up the pieces or scrap whats left of the floor. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  12. Small screwdriver from inside, does the job then seal holes with gaff tape on outside soy uo dont get air, dust ingress. Cheers Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  13. Sorry have to bail, supporting another aircaft for hot and dusty ops. Hope you guys have a blast not gutted at al. 14. Adrian made at least 2 jumps from 34,000ft, no idea about telemetry other than cameras. His jump master HALO specialist was TAD Smith and the dropz one was Skydance in davis california. The equipment was PHAOS, basically 1 hour pre breathe then transer to bail out bottle just before exit. If you need any other info PM me. Andy Ford and I made a very similar jumpin October 2005 from 30K which was the altitude limit. Cheers Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  15. Going to have to bale early afraid so wont make Z Flock I now have to go to Saudi so flying back to UK 12th March instead of 19th. Will be dropping into Zhills from 2nd anyway to say hi to any early birds. Not gutted at all, have a blast!!!! Cheers Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  16. And how many of those people have genuinely asked themselves is it worth overloading my main or reserve with the risk of a premature whilst freeflying? It's easy to be blaise about this stuff but even a single size up can make or difference that might just save your life. the margins we use in all in flight testing are there to allow us some buffet before we come of the rails why put yourself by the rails from the outset? 17. bring your legs up behind you and keep them wide, bend at knee and relax them so they are not deflecting so much air. Keep a visual on horizon throughout. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  18. Cheers Bill, nice post and opened my eyes to the other areas that 02 is needed for. I'd agree that many skydiver may be slightly hpoxic certainly where i jump Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  19. Well if you dont mind a Brit joining you with a couple of wingsuit jumps I shall be out from about 12th for 2 weeks. Cheers Fraser 1. Scott Bland (notsane) 2. Scott Gray (The Brothers Gray) 3. 20. I see know, thats fair enough, though generally my rule of safety is keep it simple more gear to check and be aware of tendds to just add more links in the chain that can go wrong. But if it works and you can get it cheap afford servcing refill etc then go for it. Happy New Yesr Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  21. Out of interest why is anyone after additional O2 outside of doing HALO's. Smoking or otherwise if you need additional O2 to make jumps thats scary for you and other jumpers, if your regularly jumping at altitudes over 12000ft and realistically 15000 with a jump aircrfat that cannot sustain a 1000ft per min climb rate then you should have a ring main O2 supply in the Aircraft or not be jumping. Not trying to source your own gear. I am intrigued as to what people are up to here. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  22. This guy contacted me 2 weeks ago, I ran a search against the payment method and immediately hit scam warnings, all sounded dodgy from start. If selling outside my DZ I alwasy ask for refernce from there DZ and talk to DZ to confirm they are real and also get local rigger to check gear. Cheers Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  23. Adrian's jump was from 34K and they made 3 jumps to get the time and distance he flew for 4:55 and covered 10.19 miles. The spainish team did 6 minutes and went from 43,000ft. Cheers Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  24. Back in October 2005 I went from 30000ft with a wingsuit, we managed data logging which gave an average or 53mph descent rate, up top I was in mid 40's for some time, first minute or so, lower its starts to speed up as you suffer fatigue in arms from position and cold. Tha data logging is difficult as the temperature tends to screw a lot of equipment. So what i can tell you is from exit to deployment I went 8.5 miles, however that was with a 80kt head wind coming at us which obviousoly changed as we got lower. I am planning another littlwe sortie to High altitude, however there are some limits to how high we can go, apart from getting airspace clearnace the right gear and support crew. The physiology of high altitude jumps can become pretty serious once your up to 40. The time of useful conscious if not pressure breathing is around 15 seconds at 40,000ft so you need to be on the ball and have a good team and gear. Luckily I had an excellent HALO jump master and a worldclass scientific company behind me with all preparation and altitide trainign facilities including chamber. The temp and windchill is a mother but the view is pretty good. I had an exhasut valve freeze about 15 seconds out of the door and had to break the seal with facial contortions, Not impossible but a nuisance when your focussing on position and maintaining a heading. I had twin thermal gloves with gortex liners and still at pull time good barely feel anything. If you want any other info ask or Pm me. Take care and have fun the view rocks. 25. Basic stuff, pilots need to know period if your wingsuiting, no excuse about comms people can let the pilot now on climb to altitude. I am quite fond of knowing whether the pilot if going left right , taking the aircraft down steep or in a slow circuit and in which direction. Ideally when you start wingsuiting at DZ you let pilot (s) know your flyign and then you can clarify patterns with pilots dependant on conditions for the day. How many wingsuit pilots check the winds direction strength at the start of the day to adjust their pattern? I have no interest in unexpectedly formating with the aircraft, know your airspace and comunicate your plan, Shit still happens but this helps eliminate a lot of the dumb stuff that shouldnt happen that we read on many incident reports.
