Personally I disconnect my RSL, they are great devices and save a lot of lives. However with a wingsuit and the potential for bizarre orientations and large burbles from wings I like to initiate a reserve deployment on my own rather than the RSl's timeline. I had a mal in 2002 at the herc boogie, which was a spinner, I was not back to earth but I still preffered deploying my reserve myself. Its a personal thing and I stick to my hard deck plus always have an AAD in addition. However if I was to have a premature deployment or horseshoe, I would rather work the problem and deploy the reserve at the point I believed was the best and not simply the point I cut away the main, especially with the potential burble severe turns etc possible with the wingsuit in a worst case scenario. Europe to Africa wingsuit flight?

I think he was referring more to the HERC boogie where in 2002 and 2004 most flocks where led by Andy on his back. In the Uk we lead flocks often on our back gives a good visual and the flock can be debriefed nicely by the leader. Obviously you can do this either way your lead flies but the back flying works nicely. General respone to other posters:: As for Skinny guys getting down to heavy guys, I can jump happily with 17stone guys in Gti's whilst on my V1 and I way 11.5 stone admitedly I use very little arm wing but forward speed and tight flocking are not a problem. As for big groups, if you want precision its takes good flying and if there arent enough good fliers yet for a tight 60 way so be it, it'll happen soon as the discipline grows, the 27 way in 2002 was 27 out the door but very spread out, the precision flying in 2004 was a whole different story and looked stunning. I was just gutted I was ill that week. Whatever happens the flight is evolving and its just going to get more fun. Dont just talk about it, Do it!

Bank holiday flocking in the UK - Who's Flying ???

If you were happy with HP canopies full stop fine, if you were starting out then no HP is not the way to go until you have the warm feeling of consistent openings and the personal confidence. If you set up to use a HP canopy just because a beginer wingsuit design, what happens when you try a more advanced bigger wing will you be happy or have to change your canopy. Personally I use a Spectre 135, my wingsuit jumps are for high performance flight and flocking fun not HP landings. I am lucky enough to have 2 rigs and I dont mix it up. At the end of the day its a personal thing I have 450 WS jumps and have had 1 cutaway and that was with a Silhoutte 150 so sh*t happens, that was severe riser twists even though the video(herc2002 boogie video end credits sequence) shows clean on heading deployment and body position(one end cell closed and the twists went in fast), so who knows? Ceratinly I belive when I am knackered from flyign hard I like a nice easy opeing and a none ground hungry wing above my head. My 2cents worth Cheers Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!

Not in reply to anyone in particular: Hmm, lets stop the fighting, no one wants to teach students in anything but a safe manner, I have no doubt Robi or PF as a whole have any interest in training in anything other than a safe way and introducing newbies to wingsuit flight. Same as BM only wish to promote safe wingsuit flight. All we do be bickering on line is do ourselves a disservice, we look unprofessional and make what I know to be a pretty well, informed intelligent bunch look like a bunch of muppets. I also started prior to the whole BMI recognized instructor program and it was a case of read the manual and get out the plane, fortunately one other individual was good enough to step out with me and it helped. Without sounding like a hippy all I want to do is expand human flight, we are scratching the surface of what can be done and the potential is extraordinary lets not turn anyone off flight or make ourselves look like monkeys (excuse the pun SM1) every time someone comes up with a new program. Yes there will be differences but I refuse to believe anyone is going to promote un safe wingsuit flight training. Long flights Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!

Protrack average fall rate data is what I base the overall flight speed on enless I am flying camera in which case its a vertical distance against time measurement, and yes you can see the dips on the jump track data, I only look at ones over 5 secs. This suit has a lot of potential, which I hope to realise after some more leg work down the gym! and a lot more jumps on it. I have never jumpoed an S3 just a Classic2 and my skyflyer, used to get average whole dive 50mph for C2 and 42mph average speed for Skyflyer. Cheers F Dont just talk about it, Do it!

Off for some training with Robi first end of June once a certain rig is finished. And the beast is all white, arggh stains, still it looks very nice I'll post some in flight shots next week and video. See you soon somewhere;) Cheers Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!

Just made first flights today and the first thing was the forward speed, wow wow, very fast, the leg wing is very big and drives you slightly head down orientation so high forward speed and higher deecent rate than I had on my Skyflyer. However this was first flight and I could see a trip to the gym was likley to be required, or at leats a few more jumps to find the sweet spots I was looking for average 53 mph nothing to write home about. That was me not the suit though, 2nd jump worked harder and flew around the low 40's with a 33mph low speed, only sustained for 5 secs, knackered at 5000ft and peaked back up to 90mph as I reach around the big wing and held before pitching making sure my legs were straight and welded together. The last bit screwed my average to 56mph however overall incredible. Beautifully constructed suit and I look forward to exploring its envelope, sinec 2 jumps only scratched the surface. Deploymenst on both jumps were sweet and on heading with no probs. Using a Spectre 150. Video next week. Thanks PF - Robi for a lot of fun. Cheers Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!

Brian Germain's Canopy Course Schedule
verticalflyer replied to BrianSGermain's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Just finished reading the Parachute and its pilot for the first time, since there is so much there on many different levels, beautifully written and the best canopy flight information and mental approach to flight and development I have ever read. Thanks for the insight I look forward to getting on one of your courses real soon. I just wish this was mandatory reading it might save some lives and open some minds. Thanks Brian Fraser -
Had line twists about 6 or seven times in 400 WSuit jumps, only once the canopy has dived like a MOFO and been irrecoverable, see end of Hercboogie viedo 2004 as the credits are going up, canopy goes up straight and then spins like a mother, twists straight into risers. Legs were not always shut in the early jumps no doubt, I now make sure they are totally straight and together and dont seem to have any major twists, the occasional one happens, but unzip during deployment and you can get on the problem quickly. Russians successfully land a wingsuit!!!!!!!
verticalflyer replied to veter_'s topic in Wing Suit Flying
We are in agreement, landing a wingsuit if its done, is landing aWINGSUIT, not some half arsed microlight with undercarriage etc etc I am all for progress but if I wanted undercarriage, jets and carbon fibre I would get a PPL. Dont just talk about it, Do it! -

If we keep going we might invent a hanglider or perhaps a microlight or even an aircraft. Dont just talk about it, Do it! -

So Jeb when is this historic day, if this is even Jeb;) who's posting. Quote" Landing is so much easier then everyone thinks." So it should not be long then before we see you on finals without a canopy? Dont just talk about it, Do it! -
Alas its the other half's birthday so i shall be going away for the weekend and not jumping, therefore the weather should be great. Have Fun Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!

Exit 2 you might like to open your wings a fraction later, as you are still in the aircraft wake and rolling off to your left, thats fine, but really symmetrical arm opening and exits make for much nicer exits;0 Otherwise you might find yourself rolling all the way over to theleft and getting seperation vcery rapidly on wing inflation. Other than that roll the arms as the guys have said, you should not be in pain to do this but you will feel the burn if you have not flown for a while. Have fun, nice pics. Cheers F Dont just talk about it, Do it!

No worries, thought I'd just point out the obvious as a lot of newbies read the forums also. Hope it all fits in sweet. Cheers Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!

You should be able to get it in you may need to roll pack it, I use a roll packing for my Samurai for a tight pack job, but dont downsize your canopy simply because your first choice canopy does not fit in an OJ. If you not sure how to roll pack get someone to show you its very simple and I have used for the last 1000 jumps with no problems, I originally used it with a Stilleto 150 into an OJ. Hope that helps Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!
