Removing handstrap CX110/115E/116E/150/155E
base851 replied to Shoot's topic in Photography and Video
Guess that makes 2 lazy people hehe. -
I tried this once. Took weeks to get the stains off my rig and months for the claw marks on my face to heal.

June issue of Parachutist...explaination please

Like this! -
The wrist strength required for me to hold the outer part would require.... a LOT of dead kittens....

No. Not in my mind at least. But maybe we're thinking along similar angles & I'm just not communicating very clearly. Wouldn't be the first time I've done that. That, or this is slowly devolving into another "what is a wingsuit" argument. In which case... time for me to beat a hasty exit!

Who manufactures your camera for filming tandems?
base851 replied to juniorflys's topic in Photography and Video
Now we need a poll of the various Sony cam models to help us noobs choose the right one. I'm leaning toward a CX110. -
FAI "The Sports Hub - New Video Channel for Air Sports"
base851 replied to IanHarrop's topic in Photography and Video
We need to get our 1337 vidiots here to submit material & represent! The parachuting sub-channel is a little light. -
/agree That's a hang glider.

Great, I just plunked down money on a QStarz Q100eX and this comes along. FML...

Actually, that wasn't my thinking. Repeated failure doesn't imply "quit". Repeated failure DOES imply "OK maybe this particular approach isn't working". We started seeing more success when we stopped trying the bird model and applied more of the flying squirrel model to the problem. I'm just saying, the bird model HAS been thought of and tried... and for the plethora of reasons stated doesn't work. The problem isn't so simple as giselle implies it to be. If it were, it would have been done by now.

You are aware that, between 1930 & 1960, of the 75 people that tried various wing extensions such as you describe, 72 of them died trying? Knowing that track record, are YOU willing to try it as #76?

We can, but here's the problem. Pterosaurs such as Hatzegopteryx have one huge advantage over us... their flight equipment is part of their muscular/skeletal structure. Coordination is pre-programmed into them. Flight would be as natural as us picking up a pencil. I'm not one to say anything is impossible, but our skeletal structure ends at the tips of our fingers, so for us to extend beyond that, if history is any lesson, we would need to have some mechanism which makes the required motions as natural to us as it would be for the Pterosaur. We're making strides in intellgent exoskeleton technology, but making something capable of flight would be orders of magnitude more complex... and expensive. Wingsuits and an airplane are a pretty fun, cost-effective way of getting the "I'm a bird!" sensation.

The uses for evil are fairly obvious... and frightening. However, the thing that gives me some hope in this particular case is that anything which can be created for evil can also have something created to counter-act it. So in the future I predict we'll have our daily bio innoculation akin to the daily daily computer virus profile updates. Oh joy.

They might need to get used to brown lawns as well. Last time I was in AZ a local was telling me that AZ actually permits CA to take part of its share of reservoir water because they're too busy washing their cars and watering their lawns to actually do something called CONSERVE. Don't know if that's still the case but I'd personally laugh my ass off if L.A. had their power AND water shut off.

The math is pretty simple. The percentage of Liberals posting on this site is 99.9999%. Interestingly, this is the exact same percentage of Right Wing Conservative Nutjobs posting on this site. Why? Liberal = someone who disagrees with me Right Wing Conservative Nutjob = someone who disagrees with me Since no one 100% agrees with me, they must therefore disagree with me on something. Thus, everyone but me is BOTH a Liberal and a Right Wing Conservative Nutjob. Math is so easy when you apply logic to it...

Actually, I'm closer to you in my overall opinion on the Horizon fiasco than you many think. My only point is to try to get people to think a bit beyond this particular incident and more long term. Until we actually DO something to end our insatiable hunger for oil, there will always be a push to drill for it. And when you drill enough holes, statistics, Murphy's Law and, yes, greed, will catch up to you. I'm not saying the victims are to blame. I'm saying this sort of thing is inevitable at our current pace.

Exactly. There are only suppliers where there is demand. Think people, think!

It would probably warrant it, but I doubt anything like that will result. The executives responsible for probably the most extreme case of gross corporate negligence... the Ford Pinto... didn't even get jail time. Then again, WorldCom's Bernard Ebbers was effectively given a life sentence without killing anyone. Gotta wonder sometimes...
-
Ultimately, we ourselves are to blame. The solution is not more regulation, but something few ... producer or consumer... are doing anything about.

Saw him twice. He put on a hell of a show.

The thing that gives me the biggest laugh in all this is that rhys objects to Americans drawing generalizations about other countries by.... making a generalization. It's either incredibly brilliant or incredibly dense, depending on the angle. And Texas still makes the best BBQ....

/agree on both counts. Them Brazilian chicks have the best of all worlds. Here I went trying to start a minor flame war and the pros came in, went all ADHD tangential, and made it into a doozy! Popcorn anyone?

Meh. She gets what she deserves for being stupid enough to get cell-phone cammed. At least cops are smart enough to use a back room and a phone book when they issue a smackdown....
