  1. Dude.... Seriously. Im not sure where you jump, but I know when I was a student at my DZ it was not uncommon for there to be 4 or more students on the same load. Generally speaking, we all looked similar from the ground (student jumpsuits, canopies, etc). Actually, the instructors told us that if we thought they were calling commands to the wrong person, to disregard and fly the pattern as planned. And yes, on a couple of my jumps, they got me confused with another jumper and gave instructions that did not really apply to me at the time. But this was easy to figure out, and I simply flew a safe pattern as planned and landed safely. Take some responsibility for flying your canopy safely and dont decide to NOT listen to your instructors who are only trying to help you learn and stay safe. drew
  2. +1 Great job on summing it all up. Though I have been entertained by all the posts! drew
  3. Just tell her all the laws in OZ are different to the USofA, nothing you did time for in OZ is illegal in Texas That's mostly because Texas doesn't have kangaroos; right? +1 drew
  4. In some ways that's kinda nice. I find it always better to be underestimated. drew
  5. I would be coming from Houston and I jump at Spaceland. But I am sure that there have got to be some people from here going. I'll have to ask around since I'm still getting to know people. drew
  6. You should say something to her, or she's going to keep doing it. Hand her a $5 bill and tell her that you're so sorry that she is unable to buy her own food, and you'd like to help her out. I brought in a bag of salt and baking soda... Marked then as sweat and low and reg sugar. Now I am waiting to see when she will make a pot of coffee and use one of them.... The - um - mixtures have to be put in your own spaces - if you leave them in the breakroom, and accessible or out in the open, UNLESS you have your name on it and "do not touch" or some some form of ownership, it could end badly for you. liability and all that. If it was out or in a cup board or something, and no name attached, I would assume it was there to be used by the GP. Just sayin. They are in my area with my snacks etc...If she takes and uses them that means she took them from my personal area.. Nice! Hopefully that would work. I have never trusted anyone at my work enough for me to put my lunches or any food items in the kitchen or fridge. I bring a small cooler/lunchbox. But if I could bait folks with stuff like this.... well.... it might be worth it! drew
  7. Prairie is the best of the best in my opinion.
  8. Hey all! Im pretty much a newbie here, and just got back into the sport this year after doing my student stuff a couple years ago. So, I've been thinking it would be cool to travel to an event or 2 this summer. My question is this. Is Lost Prarie the kind of boogie where a low timer would be able to have a good time, or is it more for experienced people? I'll probably only have about 70 or so jumps by the time it comes around, but wouldnt want to travel there and then find out there are no other folks for me to jump with. So I guess what I'm asking is would this be a good event for me to attend if I had to pick one? drew
  9. Dang! Now I'm sitting here at work at 3:30am and craving burgers. drew
  10. Hmmmmm... not a bad idea. Houston to San Diego: Only 1469 miles! drew
  11. Wow.... this thread is awesome! I had no idea I've actually been a freeflyer! - (at least without the camera part) since AFF. Now I can be cool like everyone else! Or perhaps I'll just have fun with everyone else that jumps out of planes too...... drew

    Who's up?

Ha... funny! This girl I used to date would always get hyper after a few beers. It took quite a few after that to calm her down. Perhaps you just need more beer???? drew

  16. I don't really think that the college is trying to cover its ass, as much as it is just trying to grab some news and make a statement. However, I also don't view this story as being very positive. Obviously, she was able to somehow get through the system and enrollment process - at least until being arrested. But, I don't see how a college can step in and try and produce special treatment for ONE individual - one that all parties agree is in the United States without any legal status - without providing the same type of treatment for others who are in pretty much the same situation. Seems to me like it's being used as some sort of a PR move by the school. Also, the article does mention that the student didn't have a valid drivers license. She most likely had to have some sort of ID to enroll. However, many illegal aliens DO have valid IDs, drivers licenses, and other forms of identification. Sometimes these were obtained long before immigration became such a hot issue and all the verifications came into play. drew

    WOO HOO!

Thanks for the welcome! I've been jumping at Spaceland in Texas. I just recently also started looking for events/boogies to attend this year but havent yet made any decisions. Any suggestions anyone has are welcome. drew
  18. Ok, wow. I don't think that anything from outside Texas even qualifies to be called BBQ. The OP has it right! drew drew

    WOO HOO!

Hi all! I'm very much a newbie here on DZ.com, but have been silently lurking around the forums for a couple of weeks now - and finally decided to jump in and introduce myself. I haven't actually done and BB posting for a long long long time, but anyway.... Actually, I'm mostly a new to skydiving also. Several years ago I did my first jump, became addicted, and got my A license. However, I ended up taking a break for several years, starting when I was sent off for training, and just let life's other issues get in the way. But now I'm back! Last weekend I completed some currency jumps with an instructor, and this time I'm NOT taking any breaks! It's good to be back in the sky! See y'all around! drew drew
