  1. yeah its the "potato chipping" i've been having a lot of fun so far, just trying to figure out what to do so that i dont have to repeat a level.....lol im a cheap bastard that way :) i guess ill have to learn to relax more... still getting used to falling so maybe that will be easier on the next few.
  2. finished up my 4th jump today and after thinking about the jump and watching my video, i noticed that i tend to swing back and forth in freefall as well as do a lazy turn to the right. my JM suggested more positive pressure on the legs and relax the arms more. anyone have similar issues.....what did you do?
  3. i'd try to give you some advice on your D-1 jump...but i am just getting there myself. Its my next one to do. the only thing i have been told from my instructor that seems to make a big difference is an easy one....RELAX. try to not over think everything and you will be surprised how naturally you try to correct your turns and drifting during freefall.
  4. welcome to the forum. glad to hear that nothing terrible happened with that incident. How did it occur?
  5. finished my Cat. B and C jumps this weekend. What a blast! I've decided that i enjoy leaving the plane more than sitting inside on the way up :) Having some issues with a slow right turn under freefall i guess because my legs are not where they should be yet.....oh well....practice, practice, practice. Wish there was a tunnel around here. Did a small downsize as well from a 288 to a 240. A lot more responsive...nice sharp spirals
  6. congrats on the jump. why the 2nd tandem if i may ask? is that a different way of getting into the sport than the AFF program?
  7. welcome. definitely have your funds lined up so you dont have big gaps in your training. i've been sitting for two weeks now, but that's weather related so there's not too much you can do about that... have fun up there
  8. Well, I guess that leaves out all of us skydivers. So I suppose we should lie about our hobby... + 1 i guess my lady friend should run for the hills....what with my firearms, mortorcycles and skydivng lol
  9. controller? are you saying you are an air traffic controller? where at? anyhow. my first jump EVER was an AFF jump. I never did tandem and just jumped in feet first so to speak. It was a blast and i'd recommend going that route
  10. I got my PPL about 8 years go, but dont fly anymore. Hope i can help.... Funds would be your biggest issue. At a minimum you need to have logged 40 hours of flight time, and i think the going rate for the aircraft wet ( with fuel) and instructor is around 150 or so an hour. your time is another matter. Some FBO's will have accelerated courses where they get you from nothing to PPL in a matter of a week or two. Otherwise flying only on the weekends it could take up to a year depending on how the weather is in your area. Hope this helps
  11. Great!! welcome. i just started AFF last weekend as well, but weather has kept me grounded since then. Hopefully i'll be able to get up soon
  12. yea you pack 5 guys into a small Cessna for 20 minutes, anyone would rather jump than stay in there for much longer.
  13. its true what they say....there's no such thing as a perfectly good airplane
  14. for sure dont forget to take the video. you can never redo your first jump, plus its always fun to show your friends and rope 'em in too!!
  15. well congrats on getting the jumps done. Im still working on getting my A license, but i would suggest talking to the folks at your DZ and maybe seeing what they have to say as well since they know your style and skill level...... good luck
  16. I find it way more fun when you are near the location of the cup games. Last time the cup was played i got to be in Germany and the atmosphere was awesome.
  17. Dont do it.....you will get hooked.... Oh wait what am i saying! Go for it! You will have a lot of fun. Relax, listen to your instructors. I just got my first AFF jump out of the way last week, now on to the next few levels this weekend!
  18. not so much but i plan to watch the Germany and the USA games....since i was born out there and now i live in the states. Went to Germany for the World Cup the last time, and got to watch the games out there. it was an amazing time!
  19. I didnt think you could match up the speeds of a canopy and wing suit like that. Pretty cool!
  20. i feel your pain with trying to pay for this new hobby...but so far its been great. good luck with the training
  21. congrats! im just getting started, going to do the next few jumps this weekend after getting the first one done. can't wait to get up there again!
  22. I just got out of college a few years ago and as a memeber of a fraternity there for 3 years. Overall you are correct with the assumption that there is a lot of partying and drinking that goes on...however there is the whole other side that you touched on with the community service and accademics. My fraternity posted above average GPA for the campus, as well as earning top honors for the fraternity nationally 2 years while i was there. Part of the admissions required the pledge to have a certain GPA and they had to have the right character that we were looking for. If you have any questions most fraternities have points of contact....and a lot of times you can contact the school to inquire about their GPA or status on campus as far as being in trouble or such. Overall i would really recommend it if he is interested
  23. HaHa i wish that worked...but on a more serious note...what's the ettiquette for that sort of thing. Just bring it in when you go to the DZ or only when there is a party or something?
