That's rough. Hang in there, be carefull with how you handle this. Protect yourself, but keep your child as a top priority also. Remember it does get better. For what it's worth, you are not by yourself. There are others going through terrible news too. I open my pin cover just before I step out. On a free fall rig I will open my riser covers too. when doing h&p. My CRW rig has the risers stowed on the outside anyway. Single stow with the apropriate size rubber bands would be proper whether in free fall or not. IMO it helps with sub term openings. I also think it helps to not make your stows to long. mine are about 1 inch. Your riser connector links should be straight inthe container and going around the corner of your reserve container. All these things I think help with smooth openings and keeps boths sides deploying evenly so there won't be off heading a line twists. We like the plane flying at about 90 knots too. I have noticed better openings with a slower jump run than with a faster one. slower also keeps the lghtning from opening so hard you see TV snow. Pay special attention to body position when you pull. Gunnery Sergeant of Marines "I would like it if I were challenged mentally at my job and not feel like I'm mentally challenged." - Co-worker

There is some good logic to using a non-wing/drag only type of reserve for CRW, especially if it uses a free bag. If you can't get rid of entangled canopies, you don't have to worry about inducing a down plane with a round reserve. Makes sense, but from what I know fo those type wings, they are prone to mal. I could be very wrong. I probally am. I don't think that they would use them if they didn't work. I wonder what sort of improvements were made since they first came out. The Russian 4 way CRW team uses some sort of reserve that looks like delta, teradactyle, or Kihnke. Hell if I would. Gunnery Sergeant of Marines "I would like it if I were challenged mentally at my job and not feel like I'm mentally challenged." - Co-worker

My father had a Delta 2. Serial number 2. We sold it to a guy out west that had an Air museum. I wished I would have kept it so I could donate it to the museum being build next to the new USPA building. From my father's account as a test jumper. He said the delta 2 was messed up enough that they mal'd like 70% of the time. lots of his buddies got hurt or killed under them. He is a rigger, he kept modifying his when ever they could find out what would make it mal. So that one he had wasn't an original because of all the mods. His buddy chopped serial number 1 over the gulf of mexico during a jump at Galveston, TX. I know what you are thinking of. It's like a heads up display in the cockpit of a fighter jet. The visor would be the display and the numbering would be translucent not impeading the vision of the user. The technology exists, it's just a matter of adapting it. NO it isn't a productive way to stop people from dying for what she(Cindy Sheehan) and many believe to be an unjust war. It IS a productive way to morn for the fallen. Your are welcome for the freedom to post what you did. I'm glad you feel sorry for a mothers loss. We should all be sad that there is need for those to stand and do violence on others behalf. This is why you tell them you are dressed one way and show up dressed as another. This way you can watch them when they walk in. You act as if you showed a little late and say you spilled somehting on yourself and had to change, this is also why you would be late. That bailed me out a couple of times. I could see them when they walked in, first impressions mean alot, and if I didn't like what I saw, then I just left and they just sat there. Sounds bad I know, but in my experience there was always something hidden I wasn't told about or something lied about. Emailed me old pictures or something. So in a way they deserved it. Lots of lunatics. on the web just as many women for us guys as there are men for the ladies. I quit doing the blind date thing after a few of those. SOme of the blind dates I have been on that friends set me up with were much better. You're right, it does make women look bad. There are much much better ways to get what you want. It is behaving like an adult facing the facts, owning your behavior and having a calm rational discussion without pointing fingers or getting defensive. I don't put up with that, and never have. In the past, as a result, I get blamed for not caring, being insensitive, or being a wimp because I refuse to talk to someone who is acting like a child throwing a tantrum. I usually give one or two warnings about the offensive behavior and then walk. Use it a learning lesson or a red flag to look out for in the future. IMO if the SO won't or can't change on thier own after both have talked about it and made the apologies then maybe the pair isn't right for each other. I seem to think that I tend to agree with Mr. Swartz on this statement. The DZ that Mike works at "is" well represented of almost all gear manufactures and just not what is popular. Yes, there does seem to be a trend toward "canopy" manufacture for both main and reserves, but for the most part if your smart enough to ask, like the original poster, then your one step ahead of a lot of other jumpers. I for one jump at that DZ, and I did not get a main that was represented by the "mainstream", nor my reserve or container for that matter. But, I did ask, received lots of valued information, choose what to keep, threw out the BS, and made my own "informative" choice. Just as most jumpers "should". Mark Ok, that's valid. Doesn't change what I have experienced though. I too kept the good info and threw out the BS. I also went against main stream. I have still experienced what I have described. I didn't say it existed everywhere. Gunnery Sergeant of Marines "I would like it if I were challenged mentally at my job and not feel like I'm mentally challenged." - Co-worker

That was "the King" Dave Dewolfe that wrote the attachment. If you have ever met him, he says right away, I don't do base, I don't do CRW and I stay out of the mosh pit. I'm not going to debate anything he writes. Gunnery Sergeant of Marines "I would like it if I were challenged mentally at my job and not feel like I'm mentally challenged." - Co-worker

Hey, $1500 was a ton of dough for me back then. We use a bracket that slips the bottom of the smoke grenade, where the smoke comes out, into the cut out bottom of an empty soda can. When fired off, the grenade fires into the soda can, with the smoke coming out of the drinking hole and most of the splattery goo getting trapped in the can. It seems to help a lot. That's agreat idea. Gunnery Sergeant of Marines "I would like it if I were challenged mentally at my job and not feel like I'm mentally challenged." - Co-worker

This is an email I got from Dave Dewolfe Damien, I was sent a copy from someone in the FAA.. and I did not have a lot of time to go over it but picked out some things that needed comments on. I am sure that when I got through it carefully I will find a lot more. I will attach what I sent to Johnny Malone. I sent it to him since at that time the book was not officially out. BUT in the front of the book is an official E mail address for people to send comments. Blue Skies Dave I put the word doc. attachment as his comments so far to the FAA about the book Gunnery Sergeant of Marines "I would like it if I were challenged mentally at my job and not feel like I'm mentally challenged." - Co-worker
