To move this from the incidents forum....... Sorry about your hemet... that sucks! Perhaps this is more appropriate for the Video Forum, but I'll ask here... Over time BH has had several different configurations on the latch for the FTP... Ratchet buckle closes to the front, Ratchet buckle closes to the back, etc... Whcih configuration was on your hlemet? Can you normally get the helmet off if the buckle is not clsoed? I've jumped a FTP for several years, and have not had an issue with it popping open, but I have mistakenly jumped without locking it down and it still staid on my head... Josh http://www.aerialfusion.com Josh, The buckles closes by pushing the latch towards the front and I'm fairly certain I remember locking it, but it is possible that I didn't. I wear it pretty tight and wait till right before setup to lock it down. It does have a flap of fabric under it to make opening it easier and if that fabric is twisted it won't latch completely. I'm thinking that it may have been twisted and I didn't notice it due to the commotion of setting up for 3rd grp exit on a tailgate. I was crambed to the right side facing out and shuffling on one knee along the benches till our turn. No, the helmet won't normally come off even with the latch on but not locked. I had somewhat of a poitive opening with my Samurai 150 but not anything unusually hard. I just tried to recreate what might have happened and couldn't get the lock to "pop" open nor the latch to come off with strong tugs on the bone (no flames please I know that sounds funny). I really can't explain how it happened and I can't wait to get the video from Cajones (No hurries bro...take care of Lew) to see if it reaveals any insight. Blu Skyz, Alex

On the first jump I decided to video while at Rantoul, my Bonehead Flat Top Pro logged about 15 seconds more freefall then I actually did. My Protrack shows an exit altitude of 13700' and an opening of 100' for 80 seconds of freefall. Apparently the ski boot type latch had popped open during setup for exit and I hadn't noticed. One jumper in the formation says he noticed it, but he wasn't familiar enough with my setup to know it wasn't a big issue, nor did he have time to tell me before exit. This was a previous attempt a couple days earlier of the same 6way train formation that Lew was shooting. I did notice slight helmet shake in freefall but not enough to alarm me, and upon canopy opening shock with my chin to my chest, the helmet peeled right off my head at 2k and I watched it fall the whole way hoping it wouldn't hit anything important. What a sick feeling it was. Maybe the video shows the look on my face as it rotated off my head. It landed on the ridged roofs that surround one of the large hangers and hit on the top of one of the ridges and spread over two more. Thank you to Bill the airport manager in helping me recover it. My brand new Canon Rebel took the brunt of the impact, (as it was in the most pieces) but on the good side, the extra weight of it seemed to make the helmet stable out with the video camera pointed right at the ground. A ring from within the video camera's wide angle lens was impacted in the shingles. If Cajones is able to save the tape that was torn, it should make some interesting ground rush video, plus the exit of the 6way train that worked the first time (They blew the exit when Lew filmed them). I have a picture of the resulting pieces but I'm not going to post it. I have a feeling it will be shown on the MSP video and I don't wanna ruin it for them. Everyone please raise their beers in my hopes that homeowners insurance will cover this or I'm out of the video business for a bit until I can afford another $3500+ to replace it. Blu Skyz, Alex

Of course it has to be the one with the canopy!!!! http://www.dailymail.com/pollBooth.php3?qid=wvquarterpoll&aid=879&cnSess=95bc8cac329fa2718b6237757b7c7242 If someone could clicky this, I'd appreciate it. 8) Blu Skyz, Alex

Lew, The 6 way train that you were videoing were friends of mine. I was supposed to go with them on this jump but stayed back at camp instead. Afterwards, we saw that you had a cutaway on the outside video of one of the jumpers so we came to the MSV tent to make sure you got back and we were shocked to hear what happend. From the Skydive Skyranch crew........... GOOD VIBES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blu Skyz, Alex

You da man Q... And just in time...almost ebayed a 24mm lens because it seemed to be a good deal. Back to the searches for 28mm. 8) I also appreciate you plain english answer for my noob question. Huh?!? What cloud?!? Oh that!!! That's just Industrial Haze Alex M.

Quade, One place I read you recommend a 24mm lens on a Canon Rebel 2000 but in another post you made I read that 28mm is the way to go. Which one, and why? And do you recommend f1.8 or f2.8, and why? Also, I assume you mean a non zoom lens to keep it short. I'm making the big step into a real SLR camera and wanna make sure I'm getting the right thing for what I do (which is a bit of RW but mostly either tandems of freeflying). I use a .46 on my video camera. Huh?!? What cloud?!? Oh that!!! That's just Industrial Haze Alex M.

anyone know where I can get a vid helmet set up for free?(with no bad carma) lol Don't know about free but I'll do cheap... I've got my old Paramount System3 (www.pia.com/skydance/system3.htm) up for sale. Can't remember if it's Lrg or Xlrg. I'm thinking it's Xlrg, but size is all in the padding and can be changed. I added a BoneHead rachet chincup to it because I didn't like the leather strap chincup. It would always loosen up which was causing helmet shake. The rachet chincup fixed that problem. It's got the original orange sight mounted for right eye dominance. It also has a crappy custom red/yellow splatter effect latex enamel paint job that can be easily peeled off. It doesn't have the front mount swivel-plate for stills though. I bought it used for $100 from some guy that used it on a North Pole jump and I put about 150 jumps on it before adding the the $30 rachet chin cup. The new chin cup got less than 30 jumps on it before I found a great deal on a FlatTopPro. I'll take $80 for it shipping not incl. It's at the dz atm so I can't take any pics of it but I'll try to remember to get some this weekend and post em. Huh?!? What cloud?!? Oh that!!! That's just Industrial Haze Alex M.

About 10 years ago I was put on Paxil as a teatment for what we know now as ADD w/o hyperactivity. Being an adult and having grown out of the hyperactivity, Ritalin was out of the question. I took Paxil for a few months and it seemed to help the mild depression that my ADD was causing. After a lot of contemplation of whether or not it was benefiting me, one day I decided to try a little experiment and stop taking it. I never felt any difference, physically or mentally, and haven't touched the stuff since. Just my personal story...take what you want from it. Huh?!? What cloud?!? Oh that!!! In retrospect, it dates back to a recurring childhood dream of falling off the roof and falling/flying out to the end of the driveway. Then in my mid 20's everytime I'd see skydiving I'd say that looks like fun but could never gather the gumption to call and do it. Jump ahead to age 29, and my wife in search of a gift for father's day for me called and made an appointment for my first jump course unbeknowst to me. I found out the night before my f-j-c that "I should get some sleep tonite". She thought it would be a one time "now I can say I've done it" type thing. I was instantly hooked and then understood what my childhood dream was all about. Huh?!? What cloud?!? Oh that!!! That's just Industrial Haze Alex M.
