  1. I just saw and bought a Sony DSC-S85 at Best Buy for $399. I have seen these work GREAT for freefall, and so I started looking into them. several months ago they were $589, and I saw in the sunday ad for Best Buy that they were going for $399. When I got to the store, the associate said it was because they are being phased out for a new model. If you are looking to go digital and dont mind a hand release (I havent seen how to use a blow switch because its a digital release NOT a switch) then I recommend it. Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!
  2. I know one guy who jumps one, and loves it. I just bought mine two days ago (Because of what I saw), because they are being phased out and are going onto clearance. I saw them for $589 3 months ago, now they are $399 at best buy. Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!
  3. Nice pic Sar.... ;) Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!
  4. Two words. CReW and Accuracy. There is more to life than doing it fast. Half the fun sometimes is being careful, deliberate and precise. Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!
  5. Read this interesting piece on autoweek. It talks about the guys out in AZ that are dropping the cars from the skyvan. Personally, the thought of being on that greyhound sounds mighty interesting. http://autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?port_code=autoweek&cat_code=carnews&loc_code=&content_code=00923873 Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!
  6. They werent there (no big surprise). I dont know why kirlin doesnt just toss it in, or make the supplier get advance insurance. it always seems like they call the insurance company the day before and say..." oh, by the way..." No duuuh they are gonna say no. Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!
  7. the questionable XP code issue does more than that. I am part of a group that was sharing a copy of XP pro + a key for testing and familiarization. We dont wanna run it on our PCs, but also dont spend upwards of $200 for a test piece of software... anyway, we found that SOME machines would format themselves after the patch. Those of us that were lucky, it just told us the code was invalid and told us to call mickeysoft. So it does more than originally stated. Of course we really dont care. all the copies are on secondary test boxes. Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!

    IT funny

yeah, the original story claimed the tech support guy told her to "box up the computer and take it back to the store. she asked if it was broken that bad, and he supposedly replied No, you are too stupid to own a computer. """" Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!
  9. you watch the "base jump" part of the creed video "one last breath" and the lead singer is in your basic delta track, and falling straight down along the rock face. And of course you sit there saying "NOOOOO!!!! it doesnt work that way" Ok, so it isnt a base jump... its a fall... but still.
  10. No, I am not talking about Clay this time I read this story and was FURIOUS someone could be THAT cruel and stupid. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20020629/ap_on_re_us/children_left_2 I think as punishment, we should lock HER in a hot car till she suffocates to death. but make it on a 70 degree day... make it laaaaaaast. 11. depending on the circumstances (and location), it could be construed as animal control. Under our local hick indiana laws says that if its a varmint, it can be killed legally out of season. the definition of said creature (varmint) is any animal creating a hazard or damage to persons or property. SO... just because its someone shooting an animal, doesnt automagically make it illegal. Depending on your outlook, it might not be proper, but not much you can do as long as it wasnt shot w/a firearm which could violate city ordinances. So, in theory, I could shoot an animal like that right in front of a police officer, as long as its truely a varmint. And there would be nothing he could do, as long as I wasnt using a weapon contrary to local law. The only other way is if it were done in a manner that endangered bystanders (people near/behind the target) Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!
  12. I think this is an apples and oranges issue, since the small dropzones don't need all of the "bells and whistles" for their manifests that the bigger ones do. ------------------ good point. I also think there is a market for a basic manifest software package as well. Make us geeks proud and use lots of open source stuff like mysql :) MSN:skygilligan@hotmail.com AIM:skydiverindy ICQ:7637979 Yahoo:skygilligan
  13. personally, I think the fashion world should work like the physics of skydiving.... skinny people in spandex, fat people in baggy stuff. If we all followed that, the world would be a much less scary place visually speaking. not saying my skinny little ass looks good in a spandex suit, but its alot less scary than the 300lb (no exaggeration) woman I saw 12 years ago at a garage sale I drove by wearing silver spandex pants. I can still see the cottage cheese on her thighs just like she is standing in front of me... and I was drivng by about 25 yards away. *blech* 'nuff said. "if I were king of the world, I'd outlaw the production of spandex above size XL" MSN:skygilligan@hotmail.com AIM:skydiverindy ICQ:7637979 Yahoo:skygilligan
  14. I've often thought about this, ever since a post on rec where someone representing jumprun publically charged a guy who was losing his entire dz and planes sold his computer with the jumprun software with software piracy. anyway..... --------------------- isnt anything out of the ordinary for software developers. You dont BUY most(99.9%) software, you pay to USE it (licensing). Part of that license is that YOU bought it, and its non transferrable. Kinda like your wristband for quincy... just because you dont need it anymore, doesnt mean you can cut it off and hand it to your buddy to use the rest of the week after you leave. Yeah, it kinda sucks, but I can appreciate it. Welcome to the computer world. and remember, since JR 5 went to mickeysoft SQL based system, a good chunk of the cost goes to pay for the license to MS for SQL, which isnt a cheap package (last cost I looked at was $850). remove that from JR5, and then consider the cost. it isnt quite as bad after all. in my opinion, if the DZ industry werent so small, I'd have a problem with JR sueing for piracy. but since they have such a limited market, I cant blame them from a business standpoint. And the point wasnt to drive the seller deeper into debt... it was to bar him from essentially giving away/selling something he didnt own. 15. From one monkey to another, its your power supply (as previously suspected). I see this all the time. $25 bucks gets you a new one (provided you didnt buy a mass produced Piece of sh... like a compaq/dell/hp. then expect to pay in excess of $75. 16. Ok, update on this. Since my ground hugger and I started dating, she has been living with her head buried in the sand, convincing herself that this sport is PERFECTLY safe, and NOTHING can EVER happen to me. Well, after an accident this weekend involving one of my 4way teammates,(see Jaybirds broken wing thread) I think a hurricane just blew thru her world and took away all her sand. She now has been slapped in the face with the realities of skydiving, and doesnt like it one bit. I know opposites attract, but in this case I think we are polar opposites. The only way to make it work is either she gets un-anxious (she is xanex anxious by nature) or I quit skydiving. Neither one is gonna happen, and it wouldnt be fair to either to continue. I love her very much, she is sexy, sweet, etc. but I just think we are too different. I still want her in my life, but we would both be miserable dating I think. Sound reasonable??? I think I am gonna go tonight and talk to her (she lives an hour away too :( ) *sigh* riiiiiiiip... chink chink. MSN:skygilligan@hotmail.com AIM:skydiverindy ICQ:7637979 Yahoo:skygilligan
  17. if there is a free lane then I see no reason to not make good use of said lane -------------- thats logic is like going to mcdonalds during lunch rush, stepping into the front of the lane for a cash register that is closed, and then side-stepping left in front of the people that have been waiting patiently. whats wrong with that? its just "using all available lanes" ;) just get your butt into line like the rest of us and wait. 18. Fairly high but I cant say how high. I really should know. when I saw the reserve, it seemed pretty small. For fun, we did a team weigh-in the day before with full gear, but I dont remember how much he weighed in at. All I can say for sure is its DEFANITELY not 1.0. I am sure he'll be on in the next day or two as he recouperates and we can ask him. MSN:skygilligan@hotmail.com AIM:skydiverindy ICQ:7637979 Yahoo:skygilligan
  19. He will be out of it thanks to pain meds. I'd give him a call at home later this afternoon/eve. give him a chance to relax. Might be better to email him so he can rest. MSN:skygilligan@hotmail.com AIM:skydiverindy ICQ:7637979 Yahoo:skygilligan
  20. no, Reid is in Richmond. He's going home (Indy) monday AM. MSN:skygilligan@hotmail.com AIM:skydiverindy ICQ:7637979 Yahoo:skygilligan
  21. he is at Reid hospital overnight for observation, should be home monday. MSN:skygilligan@hotmail.com AIM:skydiverindy ICQ:7637979 Yahoo:skygilligan
  22. Just a heads up for everyone that knows Jaybird here; he was involved in a hard landing Sunday. With only a relatively minor break, he should be back in the air in 6 weeks. Here is the preliminary; (details updated as it comes in) After cutting away his small main due to a premature release of one brake line (and the subsequent spinning mal) he got his equally small reserve out successfully. he set up his approach into a relatively bare farm field, and did a test flare. From what he remembers, as he landed into the wind about 200 feet downwind of a treeline (winds averaging 15-18mph) he apparently hit a rotor, which abruptly dropped him onto his back. When we arrived, he was conscious and alert. He was taken to a local hospital by the medics, where they diagnosed a fractured T7 vertibrae. We are thinking his CYPRES sensor might have contributed to this, as thats about where the box sits on the back. So, based on the accident, I personally have two things to add. First, be aware of rotors and turbulence off the trees. Second, if you are gonna land off, do so near a road, so we dont have to run a half mile to get to you ;). My chest is still burning 12 hours later LOL. Heal fast Brother! MSN:skygilligan@hotmail.com AIM:skydiverindy ICQ:7637979 Yahoo:skygilligan
  23. check with the folks at www.ontrack.com. they have a decently priced util that MIGHT be able to fix your problem. they specialize in deleted files, missing partitions, etc. give it a go. they usually have a diag version that you can look but not touch to tell if you can fix your problem. that way you dont sink 150 bucks for nothing. good luck. 24. My photos are in the oral thread.... ----------- once I finally found that particular thread (that you posted to like 50 times ;) )... Impressive. maybe I should move to oz... LOL
  25. Decent single guys are a rare occurence on many a DZ, believe it or not, they're even rarer than single DZ chicks! --------------- they are rare everywhere. And it seems that way. so many women (at least here in the states) seem to love those losers. I see them everyday... getting used/abused/treated poorly, but always go back for more. Some complain about how bad the guy is, but still stick around. It boggles the mind. They dont want a nice guy... they SAY they do, but they dont. at least they dont actually follow thru and take action.
