all these posts are not a bible to follow. shit if it doesnt work out thats fine but dont base that decision on that fact that she wont jump. -------------- No, I know its no bible, but it makes loads of sense in my case. I guess I am jsut getting tired of fighting with her about how I spend my time... with her, or at the DZ... she comes out sometimes, but unless its a lazy day when I am not shooting video for my team, or teaching students, I am too busy to give her the proper attention. And its not just the skydiving, its other things as well.

Trillian sucks in some ways, but for me, with what seems like every freind uses a different IM client, its handy. I weighed the pros and the cons, and found that although I am not WILD about Trillian, its better than the alternative of starting 5 different chat programs... ugh... The important thing is that it lets me stay in contact with my freinds around the world. if I need something it doesnt do (like yahoo's video or voice chat) I start the particular chat program for THAT conversation, then close it and reconnect with Trillian. just my .02

its also really scary to watch the keyword searches that are coming across when running the P2P app Limewire. It lets you see the keyword requests in real time, and its downright scary. last time I turned it on (its running silently normally), I wanted to go take a shower immediately afterwards it was so nasty. its amazing what people do when (they think) nobody is watching.

I done good by not getting into this earlier, but I must point out that OSX is not linux based, if anything it's got a significant chunk of BSD code in it. Did you get burned or were you just disappointed that the jet was not there? ----------- Considering I drove out SPECIFICALLY thursday to jump the jet (and other specialty AC) at first I was disappointed. Then several months later I hear that the supplier of the jet was never planning on being there, indicating that the organizer wasnt up-front with us by perpetuating an apparent lie (I assume for fear of people like me who wouldnt have gone had it not been there), I felt betrayed and lied to. Honestly, it wasnt worth my time (I couldnt get more than several days off) to drive out for just regular old skydives.

Mac's are very good at being user friendly, but not geek friendly. Microsoft is alienating it's core followers by imitating the mac. That leave's linux. ------------------ And then OS X comes out.... geeks all over the world are drooling and heading to "the toy" since its linux based They may never fully abandon linux, but alot of us are actually intrigued and playing with macs again.

found a cool company that makes cases that can be used for camera helmets. http://www.odysseygear.com/products/ Specifically the "krom" cases. the KLP080 LP cases seem to be the perfect size for most topmounts, and the KMIC1212 might work well for side mounts. Mars music sells the 080 for about $70. I am currently researching another site that sells another LP case that is a bit wider that might work better for sidemounts, and also seeing if they can cut down the 1212 so it isnt as tall(depth (front to back) was the problem I was having)

This code could actually be broken in a reasonable amount of time with existing technology. It's just that the technology is still being developed. Anyone ever heard of DNA computers. This is just the sort of thing that DNA computers could be useful for, but the process of using DNA for practical applications on this type of thing is still a few years down the road. It's some damn cool stuff though. ---------------- Or hijacking something like the seti@home network to crack it :) Those that dont know, SETI@home is, its a program you DL that lets you take a piece of the "puzzle" and work collectively to process large amounts of info. that way instead of having 10 or 20 computers trying to work on a problem, you have 10 or 20 THOUSAND computers. The '99 jet was close, just fell though late ---------------- How late is late? they were still claiming it was gonna be there the day before. And based on your theory, do you have an explanation why amerijet claims (via letter to the ed. in parachutist) they told Don at the end of the past year in no uncertain terms they would NOT return? That APPEARS to be an outright lie on somebody's part. It would be interesting to hear an official statement from all sides on exactly what happened.

First, lay it out in dollars. Thats what I have to do. explain how much MORE its gonna cost WHEN you get hacked, never say IF. its like saying WHEN the hardware breaks... it will. Dont forget the legal implications of the hacking. (lost proprietary info, customer stuff, potential lawsuits of said losses) If all else fails, email me the network info, and if possible any known holes and my team can do enough minor, easily correctable (modifying DNS records, renaming files, etc) to rattle his cage, but still making your life easy to fix... now all you would have to do is take several hours to "find" the problems that were caused by the "unknown hackers". Hell, we'll even email the changes to you (to a hotmail acct, of course) so you know what to look for LOL. Evil, but has worked before ;)

Its late, but I'll toss in my two cents. Coming from a guy who has done it (not as bad as him, THANK GOD), he wont change. At least not while he is with you. Knowing from personal experience, the only way it will change is if he is left to his own devices, and gets dropped several times for the same offenses. Luckilly, many years and several relationships later, I am changed. If it werent for the string of relationships I would not have changed. I said I would, and tried for a while, but always went back to my old ways. It takes repeated major losses of women to even THINK about changing. I lost several wonderful women, and regret it. However, I am glad now that I was able to overcome it and not be such a butthead. Now I am on the other end of the spectrum... finishing last in the dating scene. (hopefully my current wuffo GF will tolerate the jumping) Cut him loose, and he MIGHT change eventually. HE WONT CHANGE FOR YOU. Even if he has done some good, what you explained in the original post was grounds for an immediate cut. I mean, he goes out to get food and goes to a bar? You cant get any more selfish and disrespectful. Yes and no. You will be able to listen to mp3, watch movies in many formats, surf the web with Konq, Mozilla or, my favorite Opera, read mail with Kmail and write letters with Koffice or Staroffice. The problem is reading .doc (and other MsOffice formats) files since MS is changing the format with every release of Office. (IMHO no USEFULL features have been added to Word since -95.) Both Staroffice and Koffice can read .doc, just not as well as MSWord (I refuse to write M$haft). --------------------- SUN and the opensource community have come a LONG way. Staroffice6 (released soon, reasonably priced) and Openoffice.org (currently out, FREE) both do pretty much everything mickeysoft office will do(minus most of the fancy wizards), including reading/writing office 97-XP docs. Its still not ready for main stream use IMHO, but I am looking forward to SO6, as that might just make some headway in the useability dept.

I know macs are supercomputers.. But I prefer IBM compatibles.. I've done graphics work on macs.. ------------------- They are technically faster than a PC. Macs use what is called a RISC based processor, which stands for Reduced Instruction Set Computing. Basically it takes fewer commands than a PC to do the same job. That reduction in overhead makes the iMac G4 800mhz perform at the same level as approximately a P3 1600. They are great graphics machines, but other than graphics/video or office type apps, I wouldnt recommend them. PC is still the way to go for overall useablilty. I liken it to the difference between a leatherman tool (pc)and a power screwdriver (mac). Sure, the leatherman pretty much does it all, but at the expense of not doing everything the best. However, if you are gonna turn screws (graphics stuff) all day and nothing more, buy the power screwdriver (mac). its more efficient. If you need to have pliers(games), a hammer (custom written apps for business), and generally use it for other things, go for the multi-purpose tool (pc).
