by all means BUY THE CANOPY!!!!! I own one and LOVE it. I load it to 1:1.13, and it flies beautifully. Its really stable, but can be snappy when you want it to. I wouldnt hesitate to buy another.

But it's a noise I can never get enough of !! ------------------ huh??? what did you say??? ;)

the thigh of your jumpsuit is a fine place for a Jack The Ripper. Make sure it is high enough on the leg that you can reach the handle when you are standing fully erect, without bending over at all. -------------------------- but not TOO high... I found after I put mine on my leg that it was so high it interfered with the leg strap( couldnt get the knife out past it)... had to move it down a tad. Luckilly I only tacked it down for a fit. LOL

Basically he stuck his head through and that is as far as he was going to get. ----------------------------------------- Anyone else having flashbacks of Jack Nicholson from "The Shining"??? when he said that? "heeeeer's Johnny!!!"

Dropzone.com RW Big-way rules and regs...
cameramonkey replied to mountainman's topic in The Bonfire
This should be the responsibilty of the camera flyer, or if in the event that a non-DZ.com camera flyer is allowed, then it becomes the responsibility of the LO. Are we allowing non-DZ.com camera flyers? Also, the time constraint issues should also follow the same ones that apply to the results as listed in #5. --------------------------------------- considering the vidiot isnt usually considered part of the formation or team (some consider them a part of the judging staff) I think its a moot point. -
The reports I heard from Q2001, it was a waste of time... too many cops, bad vibes, etc. Personally, I'll never ever, EVER let Kirlin lie to me again by attending ANY event he plans... I drove out in 2000 specifically for the weekend of the Jet... the year he KNEW he wasnt gonna have a jet, but chose to lead us all on in order to not lose the business (like mine) he would by admitting it wouldnt be there. They claimed that it backed out at the last minute due to them being able to make more $$ hauling cargo that day. The proof after the fact showed he lied outright (the letter to the editor of parachutist from amerijet after they got nasty letters from us for supposedly backing out at the last minute, when they told Kirlin at the end of Q1999 that in no uncertain terms would they EVER return due to insurance reasons). /rant Regardless of my feelings towards Don, I feel that its dead as long as its at the quincy airport. Its gotta move out of town, preferrably to private property, or risk more stupid restrictions that have ruined it so far. Also, restrict it to jumpers only. It seems the locals are the ones that always cause trouble (whether they come in legit or sneak in).

Yeah, I was surprised too. Part of it is the zooms are made of cheap plastic, and less expensive optics... the fixed focus are aimed at pros, so they are better glass and metal frames... thus making them bigger and heavier.
-
Actually, I use the Rebel 2000... and I use the stock zoom that comes with it. I just set it around 30mm and tape it there (and prefocus and tape it too). Sure, I could have gotten a standard fixed lens, but for that particular camera, the fixed lenses were more than the entire camera setup!!!! (may have changed in the past year). Plus, the 3 different 28mm lenses I looked at were either larger than the stock zoom, heavier, or both. All of which were in excess of $300 bucks. OUCH! So far it has wprked pretty good for me.

Just remember the first rule of tandem videos.... ALL the "student" REALLY cares about is seeing his face on the screen. The cool FX are great, but not that important. I have a small stock leader thats about 30 seconds long (too long and they FF thru it anyway). As for transitions, find one and stick to it. Too many types and it loses its edge and seems like the vidiot was trying to show off (if they even notice them). End result is between 8 and 10 mins long.

The problem with that is that Blockbuster managers are usually like 400 pounds, and hard as hell to drag up and over the counter..... ---------------------- In that case, just bring twinkies with you... dangle a couple of those and he'll change his mind.

Ok, since misery loves company, this reminds me of a VERY vivid memory I have from my HS days. Its so vivid, I can see it as clear as the first time I saw it. Back about 11 years ago, I was driving to school one friday AM. Being that around here, garage sales start on fridays, there were several going. As I turn onto one of the town's streets, I see one. (bear in mind these driveways are about 50 feet long) I look over to see a rather LARGE woman standing with her back to me at one of the tables. she was about 5'7, and must have weighed in excess of 350lbs. if that wasnt scary enough, she was wearing silver spandex pants. Yeah, that was pretty scary, but it gets worse... You could actually see the cottage cheese thru the spandex!!! I was eating a donut, and after seeing that sight, I actually lost my appetite and threw the donut out the window. Is it just me, or should we outlaw all spandex above a size XL??? I swear some spandex articles I have seen must have been made by Wilson Tent & Awning co.

Just remember, most the really cool stuff isnt available for the mac, and what IS available, is generally more expensive. Plus, most stores dont carry NEAR the selection of stuff for macs as they do for PC's

Add this all up and you have (120+2520+300=$2940). This is assumming you dont require extra hours of instructor time and/or solo time to finish x-country flights and night flying. yup... thats about right. most flight schools call it between $3500-4500. that includes the extra attention and practice MOST people need. I got my license in the fall of '95, and I spent about $4200. The only way I can think that they would legitimately be able to charge THAT much for your license is if they only teach in the brand new cessnas. those bad boys go out the door wet around here for about $85/hour(plus $25/hr instructor). Just find yourself a place that trains in cessna 152s and you can get it done for under $4500.

"pitsilla" is the smallest measurement of that type I know of... and I'd give THAT measurement to the guy in Vegas that doesn't allow fun jumpers- save schmuck for someone worthy of it... --------------- I hear it fits... Know a guy that worked for him for a month. couldnt stand him so he came back home.

"Does anyone know?" its easy... when you are rolling down a hill in your car (without power) and you come immediately to the next hill, the car continues to roll up the hill until it loses momentum. Granted it wont go back up as high as it started, but it aslso doesnt just stop at the bottom. Thats a basic way of how to think of it. The comment about "gaining altitude" does seem to imply that they got out at 15, went vertical, then were able to fly back up above 15k (if you arent paying complete attention)

If you want to play cheaply and already have a PC, buy a firewire card and drop it into your PC. That will get you started. I used to be gung-ho on the mac side for video and photo editing, but now that I have used a Real Time card in my PC, I wouldnt think of ever going back to software rendering. If you want a good all around machine, go with a fat, juicy PC and a real time card. If all you want is internet, video editing and word processing (no games or off the wall things) go mac. Macs handle video better than PC's. Having said that, if you want a solid hard core video editor, buy a small standalone video editor (like a canopus type system) and skip them all... ;) a dedicated solution like this will blow them ALL out of the water. (and maybe your wallet too) I'd recommend a Matrox RT system for thier price and performance, but cant in good conscience recommend anyone deal with that company. I am still steaming over thier piss-poor customer service.... oh....and the saga continues.... For those that saw my post several months ago about not buying matrox products, there is a new twist. (first a little history) They wont even talk to you unless you are using a tested and "approved" hardware solution. If you arent running something they have verified personally as working, they will IMMEDIATELY tell you that the problem you are having lies within the untested equipment and, they cant help you(whether it really does or not). most times its just a configuration issue, and the user figures it out. They are catching alot of heat now because the newest equipment they list is coming up on a year old now. so its either buy old technology, or pray you dont need thier help getting a kink worked out. *sigh* whatever happened to good customer service?

I dunno, Zennie....I don't see em lining up!! ----- You can borrow my "rig" ;) (I'll even let ya use my skydiving equipment too after we are done LOL.)

All I seem to remember was "Piss Face, Piss Face, Piss Face!" ---- I thought I was the only one that dated her? -
"equal human beings " Man, what r u trying to say - we're not equal, we are superior in every way. If you bleed once a month then you are the inferior of the species (although I get the feeling I may bleed more often than once a month after a comment like that). ---- yup... never trust anything that bleeds for 5 days and doesnt die ;). LOL

this thread just makes me think of one great quote... "Although I disagree with what you say, I will defend your right to the death to say it" -Voltaire. As for those that dont agree with patriotism and how great this country is, I'll gladly help pay for a one way ticket for you to get the hell outta this great country so that you may live in a better one (according to you). "if you arent part of the solution, you are probably part of the problem" PS.. the message that started this thread is a patriotic joke, dont take it TOO seriously or literally (geckox, etc.)

Generally speaking, trust the pilot when he gives the green (if you dont thoroughly trust your pilot, why get in his airplane?) UNLESS you are a Freeflier that insists on getting out first on Mullins' king air.... I still love that story.... As I remeber it, One day Mike had one guy (maybe more) that was freeflying and INSISTED on getting out FIRST. Mike agreed, and told the load to give a 15 sec delay. he got to altitide and called his signature "14,000 exit, exit, exit". the FF dude left(blindly), and after about 5 seconds, Mike came back on his PA and said "OK, close the door, we're going back to the airport now". I hear he dropped the guy about 5 miles off for his stubborn insistence. Not sure if its a true story or not, but sounds like something Mullins would do :).

dude... either Jose; (curevo) has really hit me harder than normal, or you are making NOOOO sense... so dont bogart that doobie... pass it on Ann...;)

ask a criminal what he fears..... its an armed victim. you ban our rights to carry, and the criminals love it. they know we are unarmed and can run amok... Interesting story... small town in TX(or was it OK?). city ordinance says male citizens MUST own, and are allowed(maybe even "required") to carry OPENLY handguns(felons excluded of course). the violent crime rate is almost nonexistent... sorry to list the cliche', but " if we outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns" for me... gun control is using both hands :)
