I think it is ridiculous that a dz would let someone have that many jumps and not teach them to pack. I once taught a guy to pack that had about the same number of jumps, it really only takes about 15-30 minutes to teach someone the basics. It is a requirement, and as fara as I know pretty much always has been, for you A license to be able to pack a main, I have been packing since before I graduated AFF. I have only had some one else pack my main maybe 3 times and that was only done because i was doing them a favor at the time (but never had I asked them to pack my main, tehy just did to be helpful). I think the sooner the you learn to pack the better. After learning if you decide to pay someone to pack that is your choice, but you should still know how to pack. What if you land off, would you rather cary the whole canopy and container or just a packed container? Plus I think it give you a (at least) better understanding of the canopy. As far as a discount on student jumps if you pack yourself, if you are still doing AFF or static line jumps I think it shouldn't matter. In a way you are paying for training and the training should include packing instruction of some kind. Once you are renting gear, if you are packing your own I think you should not have to pay for the pack job. At the end of the day maybe, especially if you are not signed off to pack on your own or just to be on the safe side. Just my 2 cents. "Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity"

How is that any different then women being charged more for a haircut. Pretty much anywhere I have gotten my haircut it is at least $5-10 cheaper for men. Anyway, I can't wait to go there. I was there for the Christmas party and it seems like it will be a great dz (though I only got to see it at night). I would go this weekend, but I have already signed up to do night jumps at my home dz. But maybe next weekend. "Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity"

Have your relatives come to see you skydive?
Chiquita replied to Vertifly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My mom has not only come out and watched me, but has done 3 tandems hersel. My dad has seen me jump about 2 times, but only one of my mom's tandmes. Back in October my mom, dad, sister and cousin watched me jump, but that was mostly because we were going on a cruise and stopped on the way to the ship. Also, my aunt, my niece and my nephew came and saw my first jump. Unfortunately most of my family lives in CT and I live in GA so there are not too many opportunities for them to come watch me. If I lived closer I am sure they would come out every so often and watch. What family I do have here keeps saying they want to come out, but they never do. Also, a good bartending book (whichis where I got those recipes from) is The Bartender's Black Book. I found the one I have at a liquor store. "Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity"

I had that problem before my self. Just put /url w/ brackets on both side [ ] at the beginning and url w/ brackets on both side at the end. Or hit the /url button, below where you type, at the beginning and the end of the address and it makes it a link, that way you don't have to type it www.webtender.com/cgi-bin/inmybar "Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity"

God Child 2: 1 1/2 oz Cognac & 1/2 oz Amaretto God Mother: 1 1/2 oz Vodka & 1/2 oz Amaretto Jelly Fish (shot): 1 1/2 oz White Creme de Mente, 1/2 oz Irish Cream & 1/2 oz Amaretto (layered) w/ a few drops of Grenadien in the center "Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity"

But for starters you could make: Black Russian: 1 1/2 oz Vodka & 1 oz Kahlua B-52: 1 oz of each Kahlua, Irish Cream & Triple sec B-52 w/ Bombay Doors (shot): 1/2 oz of each Kahlua, Irish Cream, Triple sec & Gin (the idea is to float each layer pouring kahlua first and work you way up) B-57 (hot): 1/2 oz of each Kahlua, Amaretto & Cognac (float each layer) Between the Sheets: 1 oz of each Rum, Cognac & Triple Sec w/ a dash of sour mix "Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity"

Tandem Masters- do you tip your packer or pilot
Chiquita replied to Chiquita's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As far as restaurants go the server are generally only paid $2.13 an hour. Some restaurants may pay a little more, but not many and I am sure their entrees cost a bit more. As far as coffee shops go I do not know what they are paid, most I would assume are at least paid minimum wage. But tipping is generally done for a service that was done well. It is given as a show of appreciation. There are other times that tipping is generally done such as a haircut, taxi ride, door man, valet, tour guides, and such. As far as drop zones go, it seems that most people do not tip. But there students that feel the desire to tip if they had a really good time or something like that. But it definitely seems to depend a lot on the area that you are in. I would say that in Florida and California, or places that get a lot of tourists, students are more likely to tip, but I do not know for sure. I know of some people that tip packers and I know of people that don't. So it seems more like personal preference. Anyway, I help that helped at least a little. If you have any moe questions let me know and I will do my best to answer them. "Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity" -
Tandem Masters- do you tip your packer or pilot
Chiquita replied to Chiquita's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I know that there have been quite a few threads on whether people do or should tip their packer, but I would like to know if a tandem master gets a tip from a customer do they share a portion of it with the packer/packers or with the pilot? I am asking only if the tandem master gets a tip, not if they do it on a regular basis. I know that the tandem master is the one that does most of the work, but the packer and the pilot definitely had a part in the over all experience. The reason that I ask this is that I work in a restaurant and when I get tipped by a customer I share a portion of it with the busser(s), the bartender, and the food runner (if we have one that night). I do most of the work for the customer, but all of them help make my job easier and effect the customer's over all experience. So I was curious if people in the skydiving community do the same. Cool, thanks. I had just put it at the end. I had thought about putting it at both ends but I am starting to get tired so I am not think all that great at the moment. Also, was going to look at markup help, but kind of figured if he really wanted to look at the websites it wouldn't matter, but now that I know how I will go back and edit it. These may be things that you have already done, but they are somethings that I thought of. For one, is the file system is the same on both. ie. Fat32 or NTFS. NTFS can access FAT32, but FAT32 cannot acces NTFS. I believe that FAT32 would not even see the NTFS file system, but I am not 100% sure. Also, are they in the same workgroup or domain. And, is the folder shared (look under folder properties and sharing tab). If I can think of anything else I will let you know. Also, here are a some help pages (I had some more that were really good, but lost them when I reformatted my hard drive and forgot to save my links): www.annoyances.org www.onecomputerguy.com www.winguides.com www.labmice.net has a link to Windows 2000 Professional resource kit which is a book I have used a few times and has been helpful "Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity"

Putting a check down while customer is still eating
Chiquita replied to Chiquita's topic in The Bonfire
I guess I am just trying to figure out a way to keep everyone happy, which I know is impossible. It just amazes me how many policies that they can come up with. We actually have one about where the lemon is supposed to be for a drink. I realize they are trying to make every restaurant uniform so the experience will be the same at each one, but sometimes it just seems like they go a little crazy. It is pretty much along the lines of Ruby Tuesday and TGI Fridays (causal dining), but a steak house. I agree with Katiebear, but management does not seem to see it that way. I generally have the check on me and drop it off when I clear the plates or when they are just about finished. If someone says or even seems like they are in a hurry I bring the check as soon as I can, but if they are in a business meeting or friends on a casual lunch I tend to just keep it on me. But it is a corporate restaurant and they always seem to have policies for everything. Me personally, I don't particularly like it and generally will not order anything else, but I understand that some restaurants require their servers to do it. Also, I have had many customers look at me like I was being rude even when I explain that it is for their convience and there is no rush. But maybe I just need to figure out a better way to say it or just ask the customer if they want it now or later. "Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity" -

Ok, here is my poll. I work at a restaurant and we have a policy that I have been debating with somebody at work. Basically the policy is that at lunch when checking back on a table you are supposed to put the check down. So I want to get some opinions from people to see what customers really like. Thank you for your input. Rachel "Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity" -
I have been reading posts on here for a while, but have never really made any posts. I want to put a poll under general discussion (nothing to do with skydiving though) and thought I would introduce my self first. I have been jumping for going on 5 years, mainly in Georgia, with a few trips elsewhere. I have met and jumped with a few of the people that post on here, which I am sure most everybody has. I absolutely love this sport and the people involved in it. I would tell you more but I do not want to bore you too much. Anyway, my name is Rachel aka Chiquita and I just wanted to say HI. If you have any questions let me know. Rachel "Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity"
