  1. I found the ad for black hardware, it was for Wichard. www.wichardamerica.com
  2. There was an ad in Parachutist a few months back that advertised black stainless hardware, something about stealth, I'll see if I can find it and post the url here. Honestly I wouldn't have ordered the black hardware except that I wanted a gray harness and figured the contrasting hardware would make an error in the chest strap routing or three ring setup more obvious. I'm also glad that the RSL shackle is still stainless for the same reason. If I could just get an AAD to ship I would be posting a review of jumping the rig instead of how neat it looks sitting in my room in plastic.
  3. Some of us are looking forward to jumping that National 24' flat (or maybe even conical!) so we'll have a cool story to tell later ................................................................................. Take it from someone who has jumped a 24 flat, a 24 conical, a 26 conical and a wide variety of square reserves ... squares are better. I don't really want to ever ride the thing, it's just one of the things I tell myself while I watch all of my friends jump out of the airplane that I am stuck flying. While everyone is gearing up I fasten the B-12 snaps on the PEP and stand there giving gear checks while I tease everyone about their "huge new fangled containers" and it goes downhill from there.

  5. I believe the black hardware is $100. RI told me they use the same supplier that Velocity does for black stainless.
  6. Their largest size is the VC4, which according to their website holds up to 170 standard canopies. I would guess that you could get a Pulse 190 or Storm 190 in there, but I would contact them to be sure. They also just put stock rigs in every size up on the website.
  7. Ya think? The obvious missing option was "Strangle kittens". I think I'll start a poll asking if it's better to beat your wife with a hammer...or a monkey wrench? You either vote hammer, or you're sexist.
  8. I'm flattered. I'm sure it's the helmet. It is a _very_ big helmet. Even more importantly, I _know exactly_ how to use it. Do you turn the whole thing on yourself, or do you have help?
  9. Just an update, I ordered a Curv while in Eloy. I ended up waiting out multiple wind holds so I called RI, drove around the water tower and spent some time talking with Angela and Sandy. They answered all my questions and showed me a bunch of stuff. I went back to Square 2 and Margy measured me in about 10 seconds and placed the order for 20% below advertised retail. The order was placed 4/26/2014. On Friday 6/6 I received an email from Square 2 that they had the container and would ship it Monday, and yesterday FedEx ground brought the container. From the time of order to holding the Curv took one day under seven weeks. This is a beautiful setup that fits perfectly. I have never had a custom built container for me before, and I can't believe how well it fits. My favorite part was tightening the leg straps for the first time and feeling the main pack tray pull into my back. Nothing fits like this does. Everything came as ordered. I can't wait to jump this thing! Remster, if that was you hooking up a Samurai to a Curv in Eloy when the packing area was empty because of wind then that was me hanging out and asking stupid questions. Thanks for taking the time to let me look at the rig and chatting. All told, kudos to RI for building an incredible product and providing great customer service, and to Square 2 as well for helping out with rig decisions, perfect measurements, and providing a discount lower than advertised anywhere else.
  10. I've heard this a ton of times on the forum but after a spinning malfunction and cutaway the Raven opened quickly and on heading, and I had a nice stand up landing at 5000 feet in Longmont, CO at ninety degrees. I also rode another Micro Raven 150 that didn't do as well, but saved my life and led to a gentle PLF that probably could have been stood up had I been more confident. I don't hate the reserve and planned to keep it with my new container. A jumper at my dropzone made an offer on the container with the reserve so I ordered a new one, only to have the original deal fall through.
  11. I spent my first four years of jumping chasing goggle/sunglass solutions to protect my contacts while wearing an open face. I didn't think I would like full face until I tried it, and the G3 is perfect for opening in the airplane and closing just prior to exit. I can't imagine going back to an open face. I haven't tried any other open face helmets, the G3 fit perfect but I would imagine that most of them on the market are good and function well.
  12. You are correct. I was thinking 12 years 6 months when I posted. The container was designed for a 150 reserve and 150-170 main.
  13. ChutingStar has a sale going on "discontinued" Cookie models. Included are the Rok, Ozone, and several others.
  14. I am almost finished putting together my new rig and am getting ready to sell the old one. I asked my rigger for advice on what price to list but he wasn't sure. Here are the details: Velocity Sports Infinity Container, all black, hip rings, RSL, manufactured 8/2001. Less than 400 jumps. The container is almost like new (save a little dust) and has new risers (2013), a new party bag (2013), and a brand new pilot chute with 9' bridle (2014). It went to Infinity at the start of the 2013 season and had all the tabs replaced and a full inspection. Precision Micro Raven reserve manufactured 8/2001 with 15 repacks and one ride (flew wonderfully). Cypres manufacured 4/2002, so that will expire in October of this year and can't be repacked again. Any estimates on a fair price?
  15. Fun fact: If you poison yourself drinking antifreeze the hospital will get you super drunk.
  16. Any update on when the 2+ units will start shipping?
  17. What do you think of the Mars? I ordered a Curv which has shipped, have a new reserve sitting here and am on the waiting list for a Vigil 2+ but getting antsy so I'm debating on picking up a Cypres or Mars now and getting the thing together so I can sell my old H/C and reserve. I just haven't actually seen or held the Mars nor have any of the riggers I use.
  18. SURELY you have it logged? … says the guy who doesn't log. I spent two years jumping every weekend without logging or joining USPA. I was one of two dropzone pilots and thought why the hell would I want to bother paying money or writing things down, it's just screwing around at work. Looking back I really wish I had put a pen on paper, life for the last couple years would have been much easier. I'm currently back-filling mine from the digital altis to the paper logbook because I decided I want to get instructional ratings. Uggghhhhh I have spent the last two years debating whether or not to back log two years worth of static line, hop and pop, and normal jumps. Roughly 60 of them are about to disappear off the Altitrack that I borrowed so it's a ticking time bomb. The Altimaster 3 chest mount from the eighties that I used for the rest won't give me anything

  20. I have now put a couple hundred jumps on my Fusion 150. I started jumping this canopy at 155 pounds, gained a ton of weight after a surgery (up to 210) and am now down to 175 and losing, so I've jumped the canopy at various wingloadings. Previous canopies have been a Manta 288, Pulse 190, Batwing 171, Safire2 169, Sabre2 170, Fusion 175, Stiletto 150, Safire2 149 and a handful of other demos or borrowed canopies. I went from the Stiletto to the Fusion after HiPer failed to deliver a Nitro seven months after the order was placed. I called Precision directly and talked to Barb prior to ordering the canopy through my dealer. She offered a couple unused demo canopies at a large discount and then put me on the phone with George who answered a bunch of questions and recommended brass grommets with Technora lines to make the openings nicer. I ended up placing the order that day and received the canopy less than five weeks later, exactly as ordered. The lines to collapse the slider stick out further than any other canopy I have ever seen, but with no cascades to deal with I guess a potential hangup is unlikely, and collapsing the slider is easier than with other canopies. I was also concerned about the line size but a broken line is only one line with this configuration so it's less likely to lead to a cutaway. Even after a couple hundred jumps the lines aren't showing any signs of wear, and I am loving the black. For the first couple dozen jumps the canopy hunted for a heading, as mentioned in the previous reviews. I started psycho packing into a semi stowless bag and have seen a drastic improvement in on heading performance. I use the canopy for wingsuit jumps with a Phantom3 and it doesn't seem to change the opening characteristics at all. I've had line twists twice on wingsuit jumps but the canopy flies straight and doesn't dive so they haven't been an issue. The openings are the most consistent of any canopy I have ever jumped in terms of altitude used and how long it takes to open. I have never had a long snivel or a hard opening. It reminds me of a Pulse in that respect. The Fusion flies very similar to a Sabre2 or Safire2. Riser pressure is comparable on all three canopies, although maybe slightly lower on the Fusion, but the selling point of this canopy in my opinion is the flare. I did some canopy coaching and can't believe how much surf you can get out of this thing. Even downwind on a hot day at higher altitudes you can usually bring the canopy to a stop, or at least slow enough for a few steps before you stop. To me the flare feels stronger on the Fusion than on the Sabre2 or Safire2 I jumped. Overall I am enjoying the canopy a great deal, and feel like this thing is frequently overlooked in the tapered intermediate class when people are canopy shopping. Precision's website sucks, and they haven't put the effort into marketing that PD and Icarus have, but if you talk to owners or call the company directly they have been receptive and easy to deal with, and produce a great product at a low price.
  21. I recently had to sell my Blackjack due to a gambling problem, was it the canopy name's fault?
  22. Maybe they're calling it the proxy because they used to build them to be sold by proxy by other companies
  23. I think it has to do with the long term strength of the higher denier fabric and that it's cheaper than comparable low bulk reserves. Optimum and Speed 2000 would have also worked as I have started jumping a wingsuit recently and want to upsize my reserve. I was originally going to keep my Micro Raven but it is selling with my old container.
