Skydive Ogden operates out of a towered airport that is served by Allegiant. If you land too far west manifest has to get a clearance for you to walk across an active taxiway and then give you a green light to walk back to the hangar. They may be a good group to contact, they are very thorough in doing things the right way and extremely friendly. Are you looking at Grand Junction?

Two and a half years later my Curv 1.0 is still working perfectly and looks like new. I'm very happy with my choice and anytime I'm near Eloy I stop in and have RI look things over. It's worth a look if you're in the market for a new container.

Can any Denver locals help with cheap lodging?
theplummeter replied to theplummeter's topic in The Bonfire
Some work changes mean that I will be commuting to Denver for work every other week, specifically Centennial airport. I can't give up my current residence and am looking for a room to rent near DTC, Englewood, Greenwood Village, or anywhere near Centennial. I have hit up craigslist and a pilot forum but wondered if any of the Denver folks on this forum had any advice where else to look. I will be working 12-14 hour shifts, days one week, one week off, a week of nights, and another week off, so I would only need a room realistically 7 nights every four weeks. Another coworker may be commuting on an opposite rotation so we could split a room and toss the keys back and forth weekly. Any advice from the Colorado folks is greatly appreciated. -
Dems...what is it that scares you about Trump?
theplummeter replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm not a Democrat, and a lot of good points have been made above, but the main thing that gives me caution about Mr. Trump is an overall lack of intelligence coupled with the biggest undeserved ego I have ever witnessed. Watching how a tongue-in-cheek comment about his genitals turned into a bragging fit on the campaign stage elucidates how easily he can be manipulated. Now place that scenario on a world negotiating scale and picture how easy it would be for foreign influence to pull his strings or distract him into making bad decisions on impulse. My only hope is that he picks advisors that have the fortitude and intelligence to put a stop to bad decisions, but that doesn't seem to be bearing out thus far. I also don't care for the fact that his VP pick is so strongly evangelical and so likely to drive policy and dialogue. I'm all for religious freedom, but don't think it's ok to restrict the rights or privileges of others based on unsupported superstitious and supernatural claims. Religion and government don't seem to meld well together. Short story: We've stroked the undeserved ego of president Eric Cartman and now just have to wait and watch. -
Never been near a Mamba, but demoed a Katana and a Crossfire2 a couple years ago and bought a Crossfire2. Both were nice but my experience is that the Katana is considerably more aggressive than the Crossfire in flight and opens much worse, but if you're into high performance landings the Katana will dive much harder, has lighter front riser pressure and a little more flare at the very end. I now have 250+ jumps on the Crossfire. Thus far no line twists, very occasional off heading openings, mostly soft on-heading deployments and plenty of flare power. Overall I have no regrets about the canopy. I also do wingsuit jumps but I don't use the Crossfire for those.

The proof that all Donald's accusers are liars is attached to his tax return and we could all bask in the huge, great, best evidence ever if only the IRS would release the audit that Obama is forcing them to carry out.

Chuck Yeager attacks 'nasty & 'arrogant' British people
theplummeter replied to vortexring's topic in Speakers Corner
I had the "pleasure" of meeting Chuck Yeager at Oshkosh one year. He attempted to use the podium to get people to harass his homeowners association into stopping collections on his HOA fees. He insisted everyone call him General, and he referred to the audience as minions. The next time I saw him was on the day of Felix' jump from space when he broke the sound barrier as a passenger in a FA-18 running his mouth about how much more impressive it was than the jump. He's egotistical human garbage. -
I have never understood why people feel that Israel was some type of prophecy. A bunch of people who believed in the bible voted to make a general nonspecific prediction come true and then called it prophecy. On the other hand, when a specific claim is printed the bible seems to be subject to interpretation or just flat out wrong. Read the passages about the Island of Tyre. I also can't help but wonder why an omniscient and omnibenevolent god keeps forming souls in the whom that he knows will never accept Christiainity and therefore will be turtored in hell for eternity. Maybe you could explain it to me, so far no clergy members have been able to even draft a good excuse.

If you're going to pray for something, make it something better than a "show of mercy" that results in an empty suit and combover taking such a high office. Better yet, get off your knees and do something nice for someone.

Any owners care to comment on the canopy? I will demo a 150 next weekend but would ultimately like to purchase a 170. Previously had a Spectre for wingsuit jumps but that went to a student at my dropzone and I am back in the market for a wingsuit canopy. The 150 should give me a good idea of what to expect but curious about pack volume and what people think about the canopy in general.

I was in Las Vegas a couple years back and made at least one jump a day for a week at Vegas Extreme Skydiving in Jean. I'ts about 15 miles from the strip but they do shuttle service from several hotels. Fun jumps were $40 each and they took us up to 12-13k on every load (PAC750). Everyone was very friendly but they certainly don't cater to fun jumpers in any way. There were a few fun jumpers there and I managed to get in on a few loads but mostly solo jumps. You don't land at the airport either. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6EYbZ_4SfY

West Tennessee Skydiving August 5-8
theplummeter replied to theplummeter's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I was going to go to Lost Prairie but that plan fell apart so I booked a ticket with my miles to Memphis and bought a halo slot for the first weekend in August. Halo jumps are on Friday but I'll be there until Monday and would love to find someone to jump with, local or otherwise. The website said the Pitts would be there so I'm hoping to hit that also. I have a car and will be staying in Whiteville. -
Education unnecessary if you're waiting for rapture
theplummeter replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
I consider it somewhat less likely than that a wayward asteroid will crash into the Georgia mountains and wipe out 90% of life on Earth. But Jesus wouldn't let that happen, just like climate change. Senator Inhofe of Oklahoma has the scoop, look him up. -
Somewhere I have video of a static line student doing a half backflip through deployment and landing his right foot between lines on the right front riser. He stood up the one foot landing.

Vaping/e-cigarette fluid spilled on rig

Cinnamon flavoring (along with a few others, mostly spicy or strong fruits) has been known to break down plastics regardless of the PG or VG mix in which it's suspended. -
Questions about AFF in a week and Tunnel Time
theplummeter replied to KansasGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you're sure about wanting to get your license this is a great dropzone with excellent instruction that could get you licensed in that time frame: http://houston.skydivespaceland.com/learn-to-skydive/a-license-in-a-week/ Tunnel can't hurt either, if you have the money. Start slowly (maybe 15 minutes a week, every week) and work with a single instructor. That's my advice, probably worth what you paid for it. -

Average Jump Pilot Pay
theplummeter replied to jumplongisland's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It varies from a salary at some places to a per load pay at others. Several pilots I have recently spoken with get $50 to show up for the day and then $10/load. I think that's a fair rate for a Cessna DZ, turbine should pay better. -
I looked at the website but am wondering what days is West Tennessee open? I have a friend who wants to do a 30(ish) halo jump for his 30th birthday and we wanted to jump the Pitts at the same time.
