  1. The dude with the party in his pants didn't have a ride, so he may have been walkin' to Taco Bell... http://www.kcrg.com/subject/news/public-safety/suspected-meth-lab-under-investigation-at-cedar-rapids-taco-bell-20150804 The attached picture is from the news report about the meth lab that was found at a local Taco Bell in August. Mr. Duby is Tuco Taco Loco.
  2. OK, this may not be the weirdest cult movie, but it deserves some recognition because it is so awesome. The following is a condensed version that highlights the sublime acting... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y97tfsbyAyY Bonus points for anyone who recognizes 'Berek'.
  3. ... or are you just happy to see me? http://www.kcrg.com/cedar-rapids-police-find-man-with-meth-lab-in-pants-20151006
  4. Thank for posting the pictures. This is really timely. I just replaced a slider today and ended up with the same problem after reconnecting everything. DOH! Fortunately, I discovered the problem on the ground, but now I'm not so sure about the rest of my work...
  5. Too many experienced jumpers think that the canopy classes like those offered by Flight-1 are for swoopers. Not so... http://flight-1.com/sport/about-courses#course-content Everyone can benefit from the 101/102/103 type courses.
  6. Some time ago, Chuck was at a small midwest DZ for a turbine weekend. There he met a 30-jump noob and spent over half a day and several jumps mentoring the new jumper about everything from gear, aircraft safety, spotting, exits, canopy flight, etc. This was before there were 'coaches'. He was not asked to do any of this and was paying for his jumps just like everyone else. Thank you, Chuck. I will always remember your patience and generosity. Stomp the peas once for me.
  7. My better half took an old pair of my jeans and made a gnarly pair of swoop jorts. Comfortable and rugged, with just a touch of doucheyness ... and way less than $300.
  8. Too fast? Never. BTW: Where is this DZ with the beautiful scenery AND a huge landing area full of green grass? https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_7dPZpEWc4ZUEV5WDNPMl9iaDA/view?usp=sharing
  9. Sunny, it was great to see you this weekend. Keep smiling!

  11. Wasting a good pecan pie is a crime.
  12. Reason #4 ... spell check is broken and you don't know how to spell 'cheerful'.
  13. In reality, I'd see a minimal CReW proficiency as a much more fitting requirement for a D-Licence/Expert qualification. CRW teaches skills that are useful and life-saving to a skydiving "expert", it teaches you to fly in a crowded landing pattern like C-D landing area often are without freaking out if there is another canopy withing 200ft of you, it teaches you to fly relative to a canopy so you don't overtake it dumbly below 100 ft because you can't trim your descent rate, it teaches you how to extent your glide better than any canopy course, it teaches you how to over float a canopy if you need to give room to somebody else, it teaches you how to get out, avoid a wrap in case shit hits the fan. And much more. Ultimately, it's a great, if not unique, canopy skill and confidence booster. Also, you are much more likely to do "unintentional CRW" than you are to do an "unintentional night jump". Such training would be far more valuable than night jumps.
  14. +1 they already are, no? Unfortunately, no.
  15. Can you define in specific terms what you mean by 'swooping' as it relates to canopy flight? Would that include the landing techniques used by some of your fellow CRW dawgs? Also, what is the specific definition of 'small' as it relates to canopies? Not trying to be a smarta$$, but you are referring to swooping and small canopies when you know that some of the CRW competitors are jumping smallish canopies and using various techniques to land ... some of which could qualify as 'swooping'. FWIW: I would only mandate more and better training regarding CC. RSLs, AADs, etc. are merely backup devices that are not always appropriate depending on the type of jump and should be entirely up to the individual.
  16. That pretty much sums it up for me. But back flying is a fun challenge and provides a new tool in the air. Getting into the new tunnel at Naperville has been a blast and I'm looking forward to more time soon. magicman: Those pretty glass walls in the iFLY tunnels aren't padded.
