I just bought an 8GB Walkman which I like very much. Cheap, great battery life, great sound. Only issue for me is that the included software isn't compatible with my 64bit XP machine. No biggie thought, because the supplied software is usually crap anyway. I believe you have my stapler.

I agree, he obiously doesn't know gear, or give a crap what he is buying. I don't know how much the check was made out for. And I'm not even going to bother to ask my friend. I've hassled him enough over this. It just seems like, if someone is going to sit and figure this stuff out, send e-mails, make phone calls etc, it seems to me that the hourly returns couldn't be that much more than an honest job. Makes me hate people... I believe you have my stapler.

The guy's got so much time and effort put into this that can't be only about the selling price. The only way he could get cash out of it is if he issued a bogus bank check, and then returned the goods for a refund before the bank came after my friend for the money back. The only thing I can figure is that the check is rigged somehow. Regardless, you can be sure that the check will not be cashed. I told the scammer that unless he says where to return the check to, it will sit in my friend's drawer and be forgotten. I believe you have my stapler.

So, I'm dealing with a scammer, and I'm wondering what he is up to. History: I offered to help a friend sell a canopy, because he doesn't have a Dropzone.com account, PayPal account etc. I posted the canopy over a month ago, and this slippery guy (Dive213) surfaced and it was quickly obvious that he was a scammer. (DZ.com pegged him as well.) He resurfaced a couple of days ago after almost a month, letting me know that he Fedexd a bank check to the seller. I notified him that the canopy is long gone. He asked if I have anything else to sell him instead, so I offered him my 25 year old Security X210 reserve, mainly as a joke. He took me up on it, and wants my friend to cash the check and mail me the funds. I say "no way!" My friend has nothing to sell, so he is out of the picture. But the scammer is so bent on having that check cashed. So, what is he up to? This can't all be about $300 or some old gear. Is there a way of rigging a check such that, once it's deposited, he has access to the account? I believe you have my stapler.

Thanks all. Yeah, I guess I just didn't pull it closed far enough. The main's unpacked at home, so I'll take another look tonight. BTW, critical functions like uncollapsing the slider, I make sure I have thorough understanding of when I need it. But collapsing the slider...well, it didn't seem like there was enough friction from the lines themselves, but maybe it worked in the air, but not on the ground? (Uhum..."magical thinking"...) Anyway, it seemed like a non-critical function if I ever saw one, so I thought I'd just give it a try, see what happens. I believe you have my stapler.

Second jump on my used Spectre, I decided to try collapsing the slider. Pulled the lines, but it un-collapsed as soon as I released the lines. I can't see any mechanism (friction devise or the like) that would hold it closed. Is something wrong, or am I missing something? I believe you have my stapler.

Let's remember how awesome this sport is!!!!!

Yeah, so I'm getting back after 22 years. Quit in '88, and literally dreamed freefall dreams for 15 years thereafter. Last weekend I made my 3rd jump after returning, and after stepping out of the Cessna alone, I was just thinking "WOW! This is just SO COOL!" I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity and lack of inhibition to do this. Life is good! I believe you have my stapler. -

No, I'm pretty sure it was Sunday. I believe you have my stapler. -
Thanks Dave, Yeah, I wouldn't try stowing behind my neck without the required retention. I'm just trying to understand how this all works. It seems to me, that another requirement for stowing the slider, is that you can do an efficient rear riser turn with the brakes stowed, something that I wasn't able to do. (The rear tension was just too high). You need to be able to quickly avoid a collision before stowing the slider and taking toggle control. The slinks I have came off a different rig, which didn't have bumpers ("covers"). I installed the main myself, and have full understanding of the slink installation, what with all the practice I got before I finally got the lines straight. Great, Dave. I'll take you up on your bumper offer! I believe you have my stapler.

Thanks. I just checked out the "Riser Covers" on the PD website, and that looks like what I want. But am I right that if you are going to stow the slider behind your neck (not use the riser covers), you need to do that prior to releasing toggles? I believe you have my stapler.
-
Jumped my rig for the first time yesterday, and had an issue with the slider. It slammed down past the slinks and jammed over the toggles. I struggled a little to push it up to free the toggles. After that, it was smooth sailing. I should probably mention that the main had previously been installed on full-width risers by means of hard links, but it is now installed on mini risers with slinks. So, what should I do? I understand that a lot of jumpers pull the slider even further down, and stow it behind their neck. I assume that you need to pull it all the way down past the toggles and brake line stows. But this has to be done prior to releasing the toggles/brakes i.e. prior to having full control of the canopy, right? If that's the case I don't want to go that route. So then, slider stops on the risers? What kind of stops are going to keep those huge slider grommets from passing the slinks? I believe you have my stapler.

OMG, Amen to that, Ranger. I believe you have my stapler.

+1 and "terminal velocity", "dropzone" and "cutaway".. and of course all the hookers, the blow, the money and the fame.. The opening scenes of both Moonraker and the first Get Smart movie. I believe you have my stapler.

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm returning after 22 years and I'm not liking what I see. Used to be that if I got hurt, it was most likely my own fault. But now, I'm trying to figure out a way putting as much distance between myself and the guys who want to take it to the limit under canopy. I believe you have my stapler.

skydiverjersey.com - Is it real???
Airviking replied to base729's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nuthin of any value to contribute, but I used to jump there back when it was Skydive East (often referred to as "Skydive Least" because of all the hours standing around and not skydiving for no apparent reason.) The LZ was off the airport, and required a shuttle back. The neighbors were pretty hostile, and Doug would sometimes ground jumpers for landing off. But I still have some awesome memories from back then. -
Got a reply back. He didn't understand my question about whether or nor canopies were included, but I think I can interpret his reply as indicating no canopies. It all makes sense now... I believe you have my stapler.

OK, perhaps stuffed with newspaper for the photos. That would explain things. I believe you have my stapler.

I agree about the eye-contact issue. Important for performance and safety but also enhances the "communal" aspect of FS. I have the same issue: gotta wear perscription glasses. Bought a pair of the over-the-glasses variation on the old "Krupps-style" goggles. Then I felt that handling helmet, goggles and perscription glasses in the plane would be a bit much, so I bought the Benny helmet, since it manages the goggles very nicely. I know I don't look bad-ass, but I also know that I am bad-ass regardless. I believe you have my stapler.

Ebay listing 190519759152 A "Javelin 120" Buy It Now $230 The description doesn't say much other than that main risers ("belts") are missing. The pics are of a complete rig with articulated harness less risers, which implies that main and reserve canopies are included. I contacted the seller regarding canopies. Obviously the seller is not a jumper, and assuming that the rig isn't stolen and includes canopies, someone's getting a really good deal, like maybe the price is missing a zero! I believe you have my stapler.

Drove up to my local DZ/rigging loft to pick up my Harness/container+reserve yesterday. Brought my main with me to install. Figured I'd do it myself, since this particular gear is all new to me, and the more I handle it the more familiar I will be with it. I learned some of the many ways to screw up the process of installing a canopy onto risers. Nothing that a bunch of full linechecks didn't eventually fix. (If my math is right, there are 24 ways of ordering 4 lines on a slink, plus inifite ways you can wrap lines around other lines/ linegroups) It was a gusty day, so there was no sport-jumping going on. So there were a lot of experienced people hanging around looking for something to do. I got a lot of pointers about packing, some solicited, some just people walking by, all greatly appreciated. At one point, someone packing next to me pointed out that "what I just did" might be a step-through, which amazed me that she could sense something like that out of the corner of her eye, while packing her own stuff. Anyway, I'm 90% sure that it wasn't and that it was just me doing something unneccesary and risky by throwing the PC ahead of the D-bag before dropping the bag in the container. (What she saw was me pulling the bridle out from under the D-bag, which looked like I had flipped the bag through the lines.) Of coarse that 10% uncertainty will have me repacking it at home. More practice, more familiarization. But it was a great day, between meeting some good people, playing with my gear, and seeing my rig finally come together! Next opportunity, I'll be getting some air! Blue Skies! I believe you have my stapler. -
I made a jump out of one of those at an ultralite airshow in '83. Groundwinds were 15-ish, but winds aloft were like 30, and we were basically standing still while climbing. It pretty much sucked... kinda like a Harley: a lot of noise, but no speed. (Shit, did I say that out loud?) I got so impatient on jumprun because we weren't making any headway, so I just exited way short. Got close enough to high tension lines to hear them buzzing under my feet as I passed over. BTW, you can forget about "altitude". The best you'll do is hop-'n-pop. I believe you have my stapler.

I perforated an eardrum once, skydiving with a sinus infection. Some pain, but healed itself in a couple of weeks. On both of my recurrency jumps last fall, I had to equalize in FF. The pain was just too great. But I think that for me, equalization becomes a non-issue with more frequent skydives. I believe you have my stapler.

Update: Neither the X210 nor the Fury are going into my rig, because neither fit. The rigger struggled for hours, trying to get the X210 packed and finally said Uncle. This is the reserve that was "in" the Racer when I bought it. Actually, the reserve container was open when I received it. So I gotta bite the bullet and get a reserve. I believe you have my stapler.
