Re: OP Got married, moved to NYC. Lost touch with the jump scene just enough to realize that my dream of full fledged sky-godliness was not going to materialize. Also saw emerging trends in the sport that I didn't care for: a lot of flash and showyiness, too many friggin cameras, students fast-tracking to god-status. So I sold the rig, and took up photography which was more urban and accessible at the time. I believe you have my stapler.

Yep, so I've been told. I'll be contacting the NE chapter for a membership application the spring. I believe you have my stapler.

Alright, so let me elaborate: Being an old-school freefall swooper, to me, the more sky you use on a dive, the more fun it is. That said: unlaunched exits - fun launching pieces - less fun larger formations - fun tight ("good") 4-way RW - less fun multiple plane loads - FUN! Zoo dives - can be a lot of fun if you can get past the fact that it's a zoo dive So, yeah almost all of skydiving is fun. However a lot of it is focused on learning something new, honing current skills, or trying to accomplish something difficult purely for the satisfaction of achieving something. This can be rewarding or frustrating, depending on outcome and attitude. I do get the feeling though, that many who consider themselves to be "fun jumpers" take things way to seriously, and conduct their skydiving activities as though they were training for hard-core competition. I'm wondering if perhaps we are losing touch with the ability to play. I believe you have my stapler.

What would you do if you lost your goggles on exit?

No different from any other dive. I'd close my eyes tight and pray. I believe you have my stapler. -
My analyst says I need to get back in touch with my inner child. That said, I'm revisiting skydiving entirely for the fun of it. To me, the sky is just one big playground. So I gotta ask: What aspects of your skydiving is fun? I believe you have my stapler.

Thanks Dave, Good points. I'll be right at 1:1 come spring. The plan is to jump this old canopy for a season while I keep my eye out for a down-size ZP, probably a 190. I wasn't really looking for an F-111 canopy, but this rig was such a good deal that I can virtually scrap the main when I find something better. Meanwhile, it certainly won't be the worst canopy I've jumped. I believe you have my stapler.

That roll pack is how I used to pack my Stratostar. I believe you have my stapler.

Thanks, that makes sense. The PIA doc shows a big jump in pack volume, and then it drops back down when Spectra lines are added. Mine is an '89, so it could be 493 cubic inches or 583 cubic inches, depending on when the design changed. From the looks of things, I'm betting 583. Well the seller was able to do it, so it is do-able. I opened up the container, and 1/3 of the main was outside the deployment bag. Reminded me of a fat guy in a speedo. So I figured I'd dig into my memory banks and flatpack this puppy on the livingroom floor. I made a couple of mistakes: 1. Hardwood floor: BAD! 2. Thinking it was gonna be easy. (wasn't at all.) I quit before I got too frustrated. I'm gonna find a rug to pack on, and try psychopacking. It's 18 degrees outside, and 8" of snow, so I got some time to get this right. I just received a rig for eval and possible purchase, and the thing looks like a tick about to burst, that is to say, the main container looks way overstuffed. I'm trying to determine what the situation really is, but I'm having a problem establishing the main pack volume. I downloaded "PIA Canopy Study TS-104.18, but I don't know what the Date of Manufacture column indicates. Is it "from" or "up to"? Mine is a PD210, DOM April '89 with spectra lines (but they might have originally been dacron). Can anyone help a guy out? I believe you have my stapler.

This forum's better than Google! I believe you have my stapler.

That plane would be in soooo many pieces... I believe you have my stapler.

Alright, since this topic is officially hijacked, I need to ask this: One would assume that what we call "Gravitational force" is actually gravitational force minus the centrifugal force caused by the earth's rotation. So how come the pull isn't higher at the poles, where there is no centrifugal force, and lowest at the equator? I believe you have my stapler.

Earth? Curved? Then why don't we fall off?! I believe you have my stapler.

I've done stand-up landings under streamers more than once. I believe you have my stapler.

If all things bad were banned you might end up in a bowling alley. Sparky Bowling is bad. I believe you have my stapler.

It's widely accepted in the scientific community these days, that "love" is a psycho-chemically induced insanity, without which none of us would be here today. I've fallen head over heels for females at first sight more often than I care to remember. Marriage didn't change that. But a clear understanding of what was really going on, helped me stop reacting to it. I believe you have my stapler.

I got a pair of laser-sited office scissors. I can't imagine how I got by without them. I believe you have my stapler.

I've quit successfully several times in my life. Each time, 2 things were key: 1. Commitment. Without it, it doesn't matter what you do, buy, use, listen to. (I got angry, was sick of being a slave to friggin cigarettes, and I could see how much better my life would be without them.) 2. Confront the craving head-on. When the craving hits you, don't panic. Stop and really feel it, and you will realize that you are way stronger than it is. (It's all just bullshit!) Drink a glass of water, and the craving will soon pass. Stay out of smoke-filled bars for a while. I found that if I didn't think of quitting as a process, it was a lot easier. The act of quitting is instantaneous and happens the second you decide to be a non-smoker. I believe you have my stapler.

The only way to answer that, is you have to do some research and work out the numbers yourself: What is the book value of the purchase? What is the book value of your TC? What is the payoff amount on your TC? What interest rate are you quoted? Remember that the dealer is entitled to something, but not a Maui vacation. Consumer Report is my bible when it comes to this stuff. They offer good advice dealing with dealers. I believe you have my stapler.

WHOA THERE, FELLA... Let's be absolutely clear about what is acceptable and what is not: Not acceptable: Guy with his boxers on full display, while his trousers appear to be south-bound. Acceptable: Hot young chick in very low cut jeans, with thong underwear prominently displayed. I believe you have my stapler.

Yeah, pretty much.

Thanks for the heads-up. The rig currently has a 200sqft Fury reserve and a 220 Spectre, so it isn't too out of proportion. Never the less, I'm 95% sure I'll need to let go of the idea of modifying the rig. I believe you have my stapler.
-
Yep, I'm starting to get that. But I'll hang onto the rig until I get a chance to talk to RI after the holidays. I'll send them some pictures with me wearing the rig. Meanwhile, I'll continue my search. Cheers! I believe you have my stapler.
