  1. Rofl. Talk about a loaded question. Things like that deserve an award. Like a little crown should appear next to your name in the forum for a day or two. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  2. Amen. Not to mention the WH's published track recored over the last few years...prosecutors and all. Of all the war crimes charges that could be levied against the WH, I don't believe manipulating civilian casualties in the Levant is one of them. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  3. Even on NPR reporters have said that Hezbollah is kicking out newsmedia that ask the wrong questions. I don't think anyone should believe the lebanon / hezbollah numbers for a minute. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  4. Not sure about this year, but in previous years they have held meetings to go over the basics. And there's no shortage of experienced jumpers, not to mention volunteers, staff and organizers on the grounds to ask if you have questions or concerns. Load order isn't everything, the order can be manipulated if you adjust the time between groups accordingly. It's worked out OK at the WFFC because the jumpruns are fixed and the students land short of where the other groups get out. Likewise wingsuits get out before everyone else at the WFFC, which is the opposite of the norm at most DZs. IMO the jumpruns at the WFFC are about as well planned as could be expected. Corn is rather safe to land in, as are beans. You can be confident in that area that the ground is soft and has been tilled. On the other hand, if you don't feel safe you are never under an obligation to jump. The balloon pilot rides the balloon down, I'm sure he'd take you down with him. 5. Egypt doesn't maintain lineage with Ancient Egypt...and besides Israel has made peace with Egypt anyway
  6. Occam's razor applies neatly to that one. It COULD also be the work of extraterrestrials, of Americans in Israeli uniforms...it COULD have everything to do with the Da Vinci code... But it doesn't, not in my fantasy world anyway. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  7. I think if Israel wanted to target civilians they'd do a much better job at it. 700,000 are said to have slipped away to the northern bits of Lebanon. There is a difference to me between Dresden/Hamburg style attacks against civilian populations and what Israel is pulling off in Lebanon. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. 8. How about: because an armed force that's engaged in an active conflict is intermingling with them? Is this not established? I thought the 4th GC was pretty clear on this, it is Hezbollah's responsibility to operate separately from the people, and otherwise take steps to protect them. Seeing as Hezbollah has not done so, Israel is permitted to mount reasonable attacks that could be expected to result in civilian casualties so long as Hezbollah is legitimately the target. IOW, Hezbollah's tactics are tantamount to using the people as human shields. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  9. oooh I believe I could. need to settle out the details...but for now, notsane normiss Mark nathaniel (tentative) My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  10. Baseball and cycling are already free-for-alls under prohibition. Total deregulation is not the only alternative to prohibition. Bringing the substances out in the open could have a number of positive effects, the first of which is that consumption could actually be regulated, taxed, and / or limited instead of forced underground where it cannot. Not to mention that quality controls could be applied to the products, athletes could at least have some confidence that what they are actually taking is what they think they are. And treatment for adverse reactions would likewise benefit if the causative agent could be confidently known. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. 11. Which of those side effects is not caused by any existing prescription drug? Who gets to decide whether the side effects are worth it? In terms of cost - benefit, for competitive athletes it seems both on principle and empirically that the scales are tipped heavily toward the benefit side. Our society rewards athletes for pushing limits, not for shrinking from them. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  12. Close. It's the "we do more damage vainly trying to stamp it out rather than by permitting and controlling it" line of thinking. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  13. North Korea is suspected of running drugs for cash, right? They could spin it as an attempt to curtail North Korea's access to currency And who knows with proper access to treatment we may even see a decline in hardcore drug abuse. Which does the bible belt hate more: drugs or North Korea? My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  14. sunset cross-country. Get a big canopy, get one of those soft-sided coolers and bring a beverage and a snack. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  15. Of course it was 'shopped, they put that little red circle in it, and all the text at the bottom. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  16. Put her in a wingsuit, she'll be a natural
  17. I'd look for someone who has good awareness of himself & jumping partners has good awareness of the rest of the plane, jumprun & can spot edit: every other group in freefall reliably can spot well knows his / her own limitations as a skydiver understands the risks accepts the risks knows what it takes to mitigate the risks does what it takes to mitigate the risks is calm is willing to make a commitment has done a fair amount of tracking and freeflying has access to a beginner or intermediate suit and a docile canopy and otherwise suitable gear Mostly it would come down to someone who I'm fully comfortable to jump with, and who has demonstrated a capacity and a sufficient interest. 200 jumps is a good minimum for the average jumper, but in fringe cases I don't think it'd be unreasonable for people to start a before then. Especially if the person has an exclusive interest in wingsuits--it does take several tens of jumps on a single suit before you'll get a good degree of control and loft. There's more a lot more to it than being the target on a "chase the low guy" dive. It wouldn't be much under 200. Maybe 175. Much less would be pushing it. 18. So umm, who's going to be responsible for not having treated all these people according to the GCs for the past 4-5 years? Will the next spin be that they weren't covered by the GCs until the prez said so, or that they were always treated according to the GCs? Or will we just conveniently ignore this question and pretend like nothing happened? My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  19. Forced labor is forced labor. Once you're in it, you can't get out of it even if you want to. Indentured servitude is just as illegal today as slavery. Perhaps we should take into account the actual working conditions, give less to slaves/servants that worked indoors, and give more reparations to field laborers. What about all the descendants of feudal serfs in Europe. Surely we should pursue the descendants of nobility. Why stop at our contemporary national borders? My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  20. What about all the discrimination that took place against Italians, Irish, Chinese, Scandinavians, etc when they successively arrived in waves in the 19th century. Suffering through indentured servitude should get you at least 25% or 50% of what slavery does. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. 21. Are there any log files being produced, or log messages sent to files under /var/log? Hmm...you could try using pppd instead of wvdial, at least that will give you something to try. Unfortunately pppd is a pain to configure. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  22. I wonder, how well would a gps work through carbon fiber? I'm guessing not too well... My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  23. It sounds like the new policy is not all that well thought out--separation is entirely a matter of choice when a wingsuit is involved--but the consequences are easy to bear. Seems like enough of a compromise that with due confidence-building over time the issue will probably go away on its own. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
  24. Make no mistake, wingsuit flight is over quickly. Just not as quickly. You ought to have at least a couple hundred jumps before you even put on a suit. It's typical to start at 1-2 minutes of freefall, and with a lot of practice you might be able to get to over 3. Many people train for ordinary skydiving with a mental clock technique. With a wingsuit on, the degree to which your flight time varies exceeds that of a regular skydive. When your mental clock expires and you find yourself at 8000 ft, your brain says "forever" and it feels like you are living on borrowed time. But it's really only another minute or so. 25. How much would it cost to use an escrow service? I bet you could get it under $20 per transaction if you set up a relationship with an escrow provider. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?
