  1. Thanks! It's been an amazing journey. I finally see a glimpse of the "light" at the end of the tunnel :) And it's all good!!!!
  2. Thanks you all. I'm so happy with myself. Gonna do AFF 7 on Friday (if everything works out). I really love being up there. And I can't wait till I can start jumping with my friends.
  3. I bought some beer on Friday evening and shared it. And proceeded to get drunk off 3 beers . It was fun.
  4. Yeah, I do!!! I can't wait to do AFF 7 this week. It will be fun to do rolls and stuff.
  5. Passed AFF 5 on Friday and passed AFF 6 yesterday. Things are finally clicking for me. Onward and upwards as they say. I can land on my own now and my anxiety has somewhat calmed down. Can't wait till I can join my friends and jump with them.
  6. IIRC, I can stand up in the Otter (I think that's what they use at our DZ). I'm cool with it.
  7. I'm just curious. if you guys wanna make a short joke or 2, that's fine. Nothing crass
  8. Just curious. I'm 4'5" and haven't seen many really small skydivers around. Hoping to have my license by end of summer. (please no "short" jokes or comments).
  9. I hate car shopping, and will do anything to avoid having to car shop. I was waiting around because I was hoping to get my "A" license before having to buy a new car. I would rather spend my money jumping than on a new car right now (but that might not be the case).
  10. Yikes, that's a lot of work. But if you do it yourself, you can save a boatload of money. Davelepka, the people I take my car to, are pretty reliable and cheap. I hate dealing with dealerships.
  11. what year Audi do you have? The A6 and A7's look really cool. Yeah, luxury cars are expensive to repair.
  12. Next car I get will be another Honda Civic or Accord. This car has lasted for quite awhile. Although the Passat looks nice too. If I wanted to splurge, I'd get something like an Audi or BMW, but I'm practical when it comes to cars.
  13. Dave, thanks for the advice. I never thought about looking at it that way. I'll take the car in and have it looked at and see how much it will cost to replace the head gasket, and go from there.
  14. I'm the queen of doing late night driving on dark, lonely highways. Thanks for reminding me to always keep my cell with me, along with a flashlight I REALLY HATE car shopping, hence why I've put this off for a long time.
  15. Nice. Did you do the work yourself? Once this car dies, I'm getting a new car. I just don't want it to die on me unexpectedly on the expressway with me doing 85 mph.
  16. That's what worries me, esp since I do a lot of highway driving. I keep the coolant filled and I always keep an eye on the temp gauge. My week consists of local driving during the weekdays and I drive up north about 2-3 hours, most weekends.
  17. Is it bad to drive a car with a blown head gasket? I have a 2000 Honda Civic with almost 300K miles on it. Car overheats a lot and I know there are issues with the head gasket (there is oil in the coolant reserve). I plan on getting a new car in the next 2 months. I drive a lot, about 300 miles a week. My hope is to drive it as long as I can since doing major repairs on this car is not worth it (due to age and how many miles are on the car).
  18. I just reread this, and THANK YOU!!!. This is spot on. In a way, jumping has become a "chore" to me, and I lost the fun in it, hence probably why I am having so many "issues". The day I did the picture perfect AFF 4 dive, was the day I actually realized how much FUN it was to have a good jump and how enjoyable it can be. :) . I was sooo on Cloud 9 after that jump. I will try to get the "fun" back in this sport. I know I really want to be able to do this, because, even as I struggle, just watching people jump and hearing them talk about their jumps, makes me soo want to be able to share in it with them (despite my struggles). Part of my problem is that I am VERY hard on myself when I don't do well on my jumps. I think I am my own worst critic when it comes to that. Reframing is a good way to approach this. Thanks again for the ideas. I will give them a try.
  19. Emmiwy, I like your way of looking at this. Yes, I am getting better with my canopy skills, and now I can even land on my own with very minimal radio assistance (which even a few weeks ago was an impossibility). No jump is a wasted jump. It is an opportunity for me to hone my canopy and landing skills as well as, learn how to stay stable. NWFlyer, I plan to keep on going. Just have to see what the next step is. I probably won't jump this weekend though. I want to take a breather for a weekend. Sometimes, one has to step back a bit, when one gets frustrated. I will probably go to the DZ and discuss with some instructors, what the next step should be, in dealing with my situation. Millertime, thanks for believing in me. Sometimes when I get to the door, I wonder in my head, "why the HELL am I doing this", esp when I hear the noise of the wind and feel the coldness of it on my cheeks, and I see how far up we are. But, this is fun, and we do it for the fun of it. :)
  20. I should go back to jumping on the weekdays, when I can. It is a lot less crowded and easier for me (mentally). Honestly, I am not sure what I am going to do next. I want to continue and to get over this hump. My success last Thurs, shows me that I CAN DO IT. I just wish the "light" would stay ON for once. For those of you who suggest hypnosis, is that something that is covered by medical insurance (aka like seeing a therapist). Also, has anybody gone through the hypnosis method and has it worked for them (not necessarily for skydiving things). I really want to get to the bottom of this.
  21. Ron, that could be an idea, maybe doing a tandem and having that help me with the fear. I'm not sure, but maybe I could do a tandem and have me practice the stuff for AFF 5, while attached to someone. It could help me with the fear and overwhelming anxiety I get when in the sky. Thanks for bringing up this idea. I don't want to give up yet, but sometimes I feel like I am hitting my head against the wall, and its starting to hurt
  22. Ron, I'm probably going to take more than 20 jumps just TO get off AFF. I'm still on AFF 5/6 and have 18 jumps . I know, I know, it's not a race. I just get frustrated that backslid AFTER making some really good progress. Hypnosis could be something to consider, although to me, it seems a bit creepy. I'm happy with the AFF program at my DZ. It isn't anybody's fault that I can't do this. I just have a mental "block" that I have to overcome. I am thinking of just going back to the tunnel to hang for a while, to get my turns down pat.
  23. I wish it was possible to take prescription anxiety meds when skydiving, because I would do that. Conventional ways don't seem to work with me right now. I'm not really looking for technical, jumping advice, just venting a bit. I know I CAN'T do a fun jump for the hell of it. I am still on AFF. I probably will hit the tunnel again and get good there before I go jumping again.
