  1. I kind of figured this would be the case. I am going down to the DZ this upcoming weekend since they have some "safety day" thing, to hang out and have some fun. I will also ask about the AFF stuff. This really sucks, esp since I am such an "on the go" person. I hate being laid low by anything.
  2. Thanks! I was afraid of that. I just don't want to get "rusty" with my skills and have to climb the "AFF wall" again from the bottom.
  3. I won't be able to skydive for at least 2 months . Went to the podiatrist today and they put me in a soft cast (so I can drive). I also have to wear some "boot" thing and use crutches to get around (which I hate). Ugh. Apparently I really strained a crucial ligament in my right foot and it will take a few months for me to get back to normal. I don't plan on giving up skydiving anytime soon. But, with me not being able to jump for 2 months, am I going to get really rusty and have to repeat all or most of my levels? It was a struggle to even get to AFF 3. Also, with me being in a soft cast, can I still do tunnel time? I am thinking of maybe using tunnel time to knock out some of my levels, if that is even possible. I am really bummed about this since I really was starting to enjoy jumping and enjoy the camerarderie of the people there. I still do plan to come hang out at the DZ on some weekend days. I will continue when I can again. This sucks!
  4. Can't wait to hear about your level 3 jump. Good luck.
  5. Thanks! I'm not sure when I am going to go back up. The last time I did a jump, I landed on my right foot and sprained it badly. I'm still hobbling around, so it might be a few weeks before I jump again. I do plan on doing some tunnel time soon though. And yes, when you first start out, esp for me, it was very overwhelming and tiring. I usually only did about 1 dive a day. Doing 2 dives would have wiped me out physically and mentally. It takes a lot out of you.
  6. congrats on passing AFF 1 and 2. Hopefully your other levels go as smoothly. I am still stuck on 3, but am looking forward to passing it soon.
  7. thanks. I think tunnel time will help with me staying stable and that is the name of the game, staying stable. I have the most problems with staying stable and that was one of the main reasons why I cannot get past AFF 3. Tunnel, though, is NOTHING in comparison to being in the sky.
  8. thanks! In case I am not able to go up in the air again for a few more weeks (I will find out on Tues when I go see the foot doc), do you guys think working in a tunnel a few times before I go back up, will help me stay current and maybe get through the levels better? People were telling me yesterday, if I can't go up, I can still do the tunnel.
  9. I spent most of yesterday at the DZ and had a great time. Got to talk to a lot of people and find out more about skydiving. I guess it really is common for people to come and hang out.. Saw a few people prepping with their instructors for their FJC jump and that was fun watching that. They didn't have a sunset load yesterday due to logistical issues, which is understandable. I will do that another time, but it's all good I even stayed for the rager and participated in the "creeper" bowling. THAT was a hoot. Elsinore is a great DZ and I am really happy I chose this place to take my AFF classes. I am thinking of trying to get some tunnel time in this week, if possible. I REALLY want to try to jump again by next weekend or the weekend after. Yesterday, I hobbled around for most of the day and it wasn't too bad as compared to earlier in the week when I couldn't even put weight on the foot and had to use crutches.
  10. It's Jason or Warren most of the time, and I'm (most of the time) the last one out, so we can chuckle a bit, Betty... you'll have fun on the sunset observer. Cool. I'll call the office tomorrow and see how I can set that up. Can I bring a camera and take pics? I love scenery, esp from up high.
  11. I never knew you could do that. Now, that's something new. Actually I would find it fun to go on a sunset observer ride. That would be soo cool.
  12. I guess people do just hang out at the DZ, even if not jumping. I always thought people would find it odd, since the few times I was there, I was always asked if I was jumping that day or not. The vibe at Elsinore is pretty laid back though and I like it there. I'll be around sometime this weekend. Not sure what day. I have a few questions I want to clear up about my landing last week, and just to watch people jump is cool.
  13. I have done about a half-hour total of tunnel time. It has helped my arch considerably. Maybe more tunnel time wouldn't hurt.
  14. That might be a possibility but I'm not sure. Right now, just trying to point my feet when doing an arch is painful for my right foot. Its been a struggle for me even to get this far. I have had issues with most of my levels. To combat my fears I was doing like 2 jumps a week. And it is fun to be up there. I guess I am frustrated because this isn't something I CAN control. . Stupid foot.
  15. One other question, since I don't want to start a new thread. Do people ever just go hang out at the DZ for fun, even if they are not going to jump? Or is that something looked on as an oddity? I have a feeling that I prob won't be able to make a jump this weekend since i am still hobbling around. I hope I can jump by next weekend. I have no idea how long it takes foot sprains to heal. Doing a search on here, I've seen people say a few weeks to a few months.. Id rather just "push the envelope" and do it asap. I don't want to forget stuff I've learned and/or develop fears of landing
  16. Davelepka, your advice about landing, gives me a lot of food for thought. I have a feeling that, since I am still such a newbie at this sport, I probably am not PLFing correctly. Good stuff to think about. Im gonna see how I feel this weekend. I hate being laid low by things. And the weather is soo nice out there. Hopefully I wont be hobbling around.
  17. I hope it doesn't take that long to heal . I have an "on the go" personality and hate not being able to do stuff. I'm the type of person who hates to rest and always like to keep busy. I'll see how I am feeling by Sat or Sun
  18. Defend me from people who post stupid, off the wall stuff on my thread. On a more serious note, how LONG will it take for my swollen foot to get back to normal? I want to go to the DZ sometime this weekend and try to make a jump, as well as to "properly" thank the 2 wonderful and excellent instructors who jumped with me on Sunday. I feel really bad I forgot to do that. I can't put much pressure on my foot, without it hurting. I can drive but I am hobbling around on crutches
  19. For those of you who have come to my defense, a hearty "thank you" goes out to you.
  20. Scrumpot, I am not just looking for a "yes" person. i do like frank discussions and blunt feedback. I just need to be a bit more "thick-skinned". I can take things a bit too seriously sometimes. And thanks for your encouragement.
  21. Cutaway, I agree with you. Some people on here really LIKE to roast people. I tend to be a bit "thin-skinned" and take things a bit too seriously.
  22. Scrumpot, I get your POV. No need to belittle me. I realize the error of my ways. Going to my instructors is best. Sometimes I post here for camerarderie too. Oh well. I guess I shouldn't post here until I am a bit more "advanced". Some people here really like to "roast" the newbies I see
  23. Yes, I've gotten some answers to silly questions that I may have that I don't want to ask at the DZ. Overall though, performance and other skill questions probably would best be directed at it your instructors
