Cogratulations to you and to her! It sounds like you guys have a great relationship, that is awesome! "Life is either a great adventure or nothing." - Helen Keller -
10:2:1 10 Trips driving the "lovely" dz van back and forth from the FloraBama to the dz. (By the way I love getting to know all you guys from other dz's!) 2 Jumps to the beautiful beach behind the FloraBama! One thre-way and one big way with the group from Chester, I love you guys! 1 First, for my first beach jump. It was awesome! Danielle "Life is either a great adventure or nothing." - Helen Keller

I mostly just lurk the forums, but I felt this thread was worth responding to. Emerald Coast is my home dz. I would definitely recommend it for doing your tandems. I have been jumping there for a couple of years and I feel it is a very safety oriented dz. I'm sure that you will have a fun jump! If you have any questions just call the dz @ 251-986-5618. We can always use more girls around the dz! Welcome to our playground! As far as the person that had a bad experience...I'm so sorry that you feel that way about Emerald Coast! I wonder how long ago this happened. A couple of years ago we had some changes in staff. We have a new manifest and, as John4455 said, we have a new dzo. I can't imagine our current staff doing something like you talked about. Blue Skies & God Bless! Danielle "Life is either a great adventure or nothing." - Helen Keller

What do your parents think of your skydiving?
skygirlpc replied to andy2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
At first my parents were scared but my mom (my hero), not wanting me to have any regrets almost encouraged me in it. She and my sister had to be at the dz every jump at first. My dad loves to hear about it, but doesn't like to watch. I have just recently picked up on the fact that they both like to tell people about my skydiving. I think that they feel kind of proud of me in a way! Danielle -
I can't believe I didn't respond to this one already! My vote has to go for M.D. @ Emerald Coast. He is by far my favorite DZO. (Of course I have not been to very many dz's) He is really a great guy and has me totally spoiled! Danielle

The one bit of advice that really stands out in my memories is when I was getting ready to do my first IAF. A camera guy at my dz had just gone in and I had a really hard time with it. Being so new to the sport it made me question wether or not I should continue jumping and I also dealt with a lot of fear for the first time in my life. I got some great advice from the guy in charge of Christian Skydivers Assc. He told me that there is two types of fear, 1)Real fear-when you have something to really be afraid about. Like if you don't know what you are doing, have not been trained or just doing something stupid. 2)Imagined fear-this is when your mind starts to make things up. He told me that I should decide which one I was dealing with on the ground while I could think it through. Once you are on the plane your adreniline starts to flow and your imagination can take over. It helped me make it through that first IAF jump. Since that huge fear hurdle I've been fine, of corse at only 65 jumps I'm pretty sure I'll deal with it again! Oh, when I did that jump I was crying so hard! I know my coach was probably pretty nervous. But, as soon as I hit the air it all clicked and the dive went great! I really do agree with not jumping if you don't feel right about it! Even if you decide in the plane! Everyone is so different that you just have to find what works for you. Stay strong girl, and remember to have fun! Danielle "Life is either a great adventure or nothing." - Helen Keller

how far do you live from the DZ?
skygirlpc replied to bunge's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Right now it is about a 3.5 hour drive, but in August I'll be moving much closer. Cutting it down to about 30min. Danielle -
I just started a new part-time job in a little gift shop. With a staff totaling around six, I never expected to meet anyone that knew anything about jumping. I was hanging out listening to a woman co-worker discuss with a customer how their twenty-something children think they know everything. My co-worker said "My son jumps out of perfectly good airplanes!" As soon as the customer left I asked her about it. She was almost as excited as I was to find this common bond! I think it was nice for her, as a mother that had never seen her son jump, to hear all about it! She ended up calling her son and handing me the phone, we talked for probably 30min. It was so much fun to talk to someone that understood wingloading and other skydiving terms! Danielle

Yeah, that might work, but MD is still over seas. As far as I've heard he won't be back by Memorial Day. I may try to do at least one beach jump though. Hey I can always jump at the dropzone.

*Bump* Hey I was just wondering if anybody else has pictures and\or video from the PC Swoop tour? I was out there all week and forgot my camera. If you do I would love seeing them! Thanks, Danielle

Hey, I'll be at Emerald Coasts beach boogie. I had hoped to jump this year since I just got my b. But I just found out you can't jump the beach on rental gear. Man I've got to get gear! Well, I'm going to try driving again. It's always good to earn jumps! Danielle

That is a great video! I had so much fun! You really made me sad that it's over! Danielle
-
I don't think I won any awards while I was there. You really were "super nerd". I really need to find my video! Danielle
-
I also went to spacecamp in Huntsville, (I didn't get kicked out though! ) You made me want to go put my video in, I'll have to find it now! I was such a nerd! Danielle

OK after reading another post I got thinking. I chew gum when I jump. I have for a while, I have never had a problem. Has anyone had a problem with gum during a jump? I chew small pieces! Danielle

Drug testing for DZ Instructors/TMs/Pilots
skygirlpc replied to diverdriver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I just wanted to chime in here with my 2 cents. I think that as a whole, skydivers need to respect the risks more than we are! I would love to see less people coming out to jump hungover, over tired and the such. Are drug tests going to help this? I don't know. But, I'm inclined to say if a dzo feels it is necessary I wouldn't argue. Danielle -
I also dance and have for a while. I voted for hip-hop because that is by far my favorite! If I had to choose a second choice, I would pick ballet. You can't beat the classic. Whatever you choose, have fun! Danielle

Hey! Emerald coast is my home dz and I think that the people are great! You should really try to make it over there if you can! Chile... I'm so sorry that you had such a bad time at Emerald Coast. How long ago was that? The dz as gone through some staff changes and from my experience is a rather friendly place. But if you feel more cofortable at Gold Coast you should, by all means, jump there! Things that sound okay in a skydiving context...

When learning to pack.... "Keep the nose between your knees" -
I don't drink, but I don't mind hanging around while they do. I leave when it gets to wild for my taste. As far as buying beer, I'm really not comfortable with supplying it, so I either bring sodas or bake something or have even brought the goods for a cookout. That way it gives us something to hang around for. I guess I've just gotten creative! Now, for people giving me a hard time about it.... I think most people will respect you for your beliefs or decision not to drink as long as you are respectful to them! Most of the comments that I get just come from the disbelief that I really don't want to drink! At first they don't really understand it, but once they know where you stand they don't care! Danielle

I'm still not very quick with my packing, so depending on how much time I have... ..."sometimes pack, sometimes pay." Danielle

How long since your last jump!?
skygirlpc replied to lukepinion's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Almost a month for me and I live in Florida! But, if the weather holds, I'm planning on jumping tomorrow! Danielle -
Hey! I just noticed that the Pro Swooping Tour, Swoop Fetsival and Beach Challenge is going to be right here in Panama City. Since I live here I would like to offer to work at boothes or help out in any way. I went to their website, but it has no contact info. Does anyone know of any way to get in touch with them? Thanks for the help! Danielle

Single and very happy! Danielle

I don't wear much jewelry anyway, but I always take my closing pin neckalace off before jumping! After reading this I would not jump with any rings on! I do wear my earings though when I jump (normaly just small studs, sometimes very small hoops). Does anyone know of any injuries from wearing earings? Danielle
