  1. The "sport" that has helped me the most is dance. I also participated in softball forever. Danielle
  2. So, at the begining of this thread I thought we were talking about the damaging noise from the airplane, but now you have me wondering if freefall noise is damaging? I was planning on getting earplugs to wear in the plane and then taking them out before the jump. What do you guys suggest? Thanks! Danielle
  3. I watch it because I am a youth leader at my church and they always have a party. So, I guess that doesn't really count as "watching" it! Danielle "Life is either a great adventure or nothing." - Helen Keller

    The 80's

That is so weird! When I was reading the list I kept looking for that. (Where's the beef?) Thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only one! Danielle
  5. Hey! Since I live in Florida this is a subject that I have no experience with. But, it does get cold here and I need something to layer under my jumpsuit. I was considering ordering silk ones, but I was wondering if some thermals from Wally world would work just as well (they would be at least half the cost). I need something thin that will layer easily! Thanks for the help! Danielle
  6. I never have. (Of course, I only have around 60 jumps) I was just wondering if makes a difference what kind of airplane your riding in or do they all damage your hearing? Danielle
  7. That is so weird, mine was on jump 54, maybe it as to do with experience? Yeh, I know I really owe on this one. It has only been 5 days and all my scrapes are pretty much healed up. I really got out of that with a lot less problems than I should have! It does make for a pretty entertaining story even if it is at my embaresment! Danielle aka Treefrog
  8. I really agree with hookit! If you can, try to get your mom out to the dz. I really think that having my mom at the dz so much has been the key in her supporting me so much! At first she supported my decision to jump because she didn't want me to have any regrets but since then, when she's out at the dz and sees how safe and all the relationships and everything....I think she likes hanging out at the dz almost as much as I do!
  9. OK so, most of you will already be aware of all of this, but just in case and typing it helps remind me... I had a tree landing this weekend in which I learned a lot! First of all I was jumping someone elses rig that I had not jumped before. When jumping a rig that is new to you, you should probably open a little higher. I wasn't thinking about it and threw out at about 3'000. Forgetting the fact that this chute has a thousand foot sniffle. I was in the saddle by 2'000, very low for me! After spotting the dz I decided to try risking going over a bunch of trees instead of landing off in an open field. A mistake that I will not make again! Never risk it, make a landing plan that doesn't go over trees! I had to have had angels watching over me! When I pulled I was not extremely stable and in a rig known for bad line twists. There is no reason that I shouldn't have had line twists, but it didn't twist at all! The rig was not damaged at all and I was not injured other than a few scrapes on my leg and really scaring my sister who was on the ground watching. I am very thankful that everything worked out so good for me, but I also realize that it could have easily been a lot worse! Please when jumping new gear or a suit your not used to, please open high enough to give yourself time! And please plan a safe landing pattern! Landing off is so much better than pulling a rig out of the trees! Danielle aka tree frog
  10. Hey I have had a slightly hard time with my canopy control since I started. I don't get to jump on a real regular basis and would love to have a book or video (if they'll help) on canopy control. I'm talking basics here, nothing fancy! Any ideas? I have 53 jumps and can sometimes hit the peas but a lot of times I misjudge the winds or how much penetration I'll get and either over shoot or under shoot. I have always had a hard time with judging when to flair, that is slowly improving. I know that my best bet is to jump more regularly, but that just isn't an option. My dropzone is planning a small accuracy competition for the low-timers to help us improve our accuracy. I would really like to have studied it some before that point. Thanks, so much for your help! Danielle
  11. Tandem progression, three tandems then into IAF. I thought it worked well for me. I agree with the fact that all the different types of training are good for the sport! I really like the idea of people doing a tandem first, It's so low pressure! As far as time in sport and number of jumps I'm at two years in Jan. and only have 53 jumps. Mostly because of lack of funds. I have never had to do a recurrency jump though, I mostly jumped right at that 30 day mark!
  12. Happy Birthday! Sorry about the weather and sore tooth! Hopefully the rest of your day will be all up hill!
  13. Yes I said first,I know, Iknow.... So this weekend was one of the best for me! I got in six jumps, thats a lot for me! I did my first tube jump, a 4-way. That rocked! I also had my first, and hopefully last, tree landing. I thought that I would be able to make it over this huge bunch of trees but didn't have such luck. Thankfully all I have to show for it is a pretty scraped up leg and a pair of ripped pants. The rig, wich I was borrowing from a friend, wasn't damaged at all. Thank goodness! All in all a great weekend! I love my DZ! Danielle
  14. Well today is it, I'm really another year older. At least I get to go to the dz to celebrate! Right now Emerald Coast is having their holiday boogie, so it should be fun! I hope you guys are all having fun and being careful in Eloy! Danielle
  15. I did IAF with tandem progession, so on my first IAF...A videographer at my dz at just died jumping. Being new to the sport I was not ready to except death has part of it. I had a very hard time dealing with this. Anyway...I was scared silly not being a fearful person I didn't know how to deal with the fear at all. I decided that I needed to jump and not let my fear rule me. I was so scared that I was physically sick. The funny part is that when we got up to exit I was so scared that I was bawling. I was crying so hard that my goggles were all fogged up and I could barely see. Looking back, I feel so sorry for my instructor! He asked if I was ready to skydive and through my tears and sniffs I nodded yes and we went. As soon as I was out of the plane everything clicked and the jump went great. I still love telling the story! Danielle
  16. I jsut saw it last night and I loved it! Funny, because I wasn't a huge fan of the first one but I really enoyed Two Towers. I haven't read the books but still really enjoyed the movie! Danielle
  17. For me, I had always been into thrill type rides, bungee jumping, roller coasters anything that got my adrenaline pumping. So ever since I was like twelve I said I wanted to skydive. My mom says that she always thought it was something that would go away. So...when I was 21 I saved up and made plans to do my first tandem. Looking back I probably should have done a little more research. I didn't do any, just called the dropzone made the arangements, went out and jumped! I remeber when I landed the first thing out of my mouth was "I want to do it again!" My video guy said that I was a future skydiver, I guess he was right! PS Back to my mom: She has a great story that she wrote about my getting into skydiving. If you guys are interested maybe I could get her to let me post it. Let me know! Danielle
  18. You missed the first part of that paragraph I wrote which said: The thing that I was upset about is that pretty much all through this thread when people refer to "christians" they are talking about the few extremest instead of the majority. Sorry if I misunderstood you! Danielle
  19. Funny to me, that those of us that do just sit back loving the sinners and hating the sin, letting God take care of such matters, get overlooked and no credit because of the few (in comparison) loonys out there that take God and His word totally out of context! Sorry for the rant! I just get really upset that all "Christians" get grouped together with any murderer or hate group claiming they are christian! The Christ that I proudly label myself by is a God of love, yes a God of order, but also a God of love! He is a God of free will, not one of making people do something His way, but a God that loved us enough to give everybody the choice to how they live! Danielle
  20. Being that I take care of children, this is an issue I see all the time. I can't stand to hear "They won't sit in the car seat" ! So, you would rather have a dead child then an upset one? From my experience if you never let them out of the car seat they don't know to throw a fit over sitting in it. I take children in my car that don't sit in car seats with there parents yet they don't think twice about sitting in one in my car. They know that they can either sit in it or we won't go anywhere. Another thing that I see happen a lot is parents letting there kids out of carseats before they are big enough. The "rules" have changed a lot in the past years concerning size and need for car seats. Please read your car seats instruction book and follow the size recomendations! Here our highway patrol regularly has carseat checkpoints where you go and let them check your carseat and how it is put in your car. If anything is wrong with your carseat they give you one and they buckle it in for you. I think these checks are a very worthwile thing for anybody that drives with kids in their car! Danielle
  21. I'm 23 and will be one year older (can't say the age, it sounds to old!) on Dec. 26th. I'm hoping to spend my birthday at the dz, that will make me feel younger! Danielle

    nicknames

I'm mostly just called "Danielle" right now, but some of the nicknames I've had are: D'elle and yell, oh and hell from the kids I babysit. These came about because they couldn't pronounce Danielle. Dany boy from my dad And some friends of mine used to call me "burly girl" Because I would always try to show up the boys! I never thought that one was very flattering. But, it was better than being a "girly girl"!
  23. I'm not sure when it happened, but I just saw enthusiast by my name. Cool!
  24. I still call my first my home. Mainly because of the people. I think when you go through your training and all at one DZ you really get to know the people, you learn who to trust and who to ask questions of, and mostly you form a bond with those people, making it very hard to replace! I love my home DZ, Emerald Coast! Danielle
  25. Hey! I have not had a cut-away yet, but I was on a plane that had problems and ended up "emergency landing" fairly roughly. It was weird because my strange feelings came about because I was so calm. I remember thinking, "wow, why am I so calm?" It made me nervous. Then we prepared for and experienced the landing. My mom, who comes to almost all my jumps, said as the plane started to take-off she got a weird feeling. I guess there really is something to the whole "mothers intuition"! Danielle
