Jesus Christ, people. I don't log on for a couple of days (About 2-3) and I find that I've missed about 3-4 thousand posts in the top three catagories, alone. Anywho, I went jumping today and did my first backflip... and my first RW jump. All went well, lots of fun. I now have 13 jumps to my credit. One of these days I'll have something interesting to post =P Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

Very cool. Sounds like an excellent jump. Do you have any pictures of the ecplise jump that you could post? Sad as it is, I've never actually seen an ecplise in real time. I always forget about it until after it's happened and then I hear everyone else talk about it =) Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

No kidding =) When they (My parents) first told me, I thought they were kidding. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

Ouch! That really sucks the big one. Well, it could be worse. An angry girlfriend could cut off your dick in the middle of the night and throw it out the window of a moving car! Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

Of all of the three planes I've jumped from, I'd have to go with the ever-popular Twin Otter. I've also jumped from a Beach99 and a Cessna 182. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

I jump at the Lodi, CA Parachute Center. One of these days, I'm gonna get my step-dad to fly me down to Perris (We're lucky enough to own our own airplane. A 1976 Mooney M20F) and we might meet there. If we ever do meet, I'd love to swap stories. I don't have any good ones of my own, yet, but I always love hearing others'. I have to appologize =) If I don't, people view me as an asshole, appologizing is my way of saying I was wrong. I've still got a LOT more appologies to go =P Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.
-
Yes, I've figured that out, by now. I posted a response about 2 or 3 below this that says this. I appologize again for my ignorance. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

Preach on, Bill. Well said. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

I'll remember that, thank you. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

Everyone knows my newbiness. What I don't want to be is another one of the "men in black." What can I do so that I'm not one of them. I assume just do the proper tracking and always watch where I'm going and where other's are going? Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

Keep in mind, not only are you dealing with a skydiving newbie, you're dealing with a 16 year old skydiving newbie. Ignorance is a must on my part. I'd be failing my fellow teenagers if I didn't add some sort of ignorance to the fire. We teenagers are immortal, you know? Just look at how we drive. =) Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

Not to sound defensive, but I'm not trying to say I know everything or even most things. But when Jimbo says I'm in no position to give any sort of advice at all, it's a little offensive. I may be new, but I like to think my research has at least given the right give some sort of worthy advice, eh? Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

Point taken. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

You said it well. I completely agree with you. Also, in case anyone starts getting frustrated with me, I appologize for my ignorance, just tell me to be quiet for a while and I'll take the hint =P. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

Right, and stuff like that is understandable. My statement was more along the lines of- if about 2-3 people a day were breaking legs and such from perfectly normal lands, then I probably wouldn't jump. Sorry to sound confusing, I didn't get much sleep last night. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

Right, skydiving may not be the safest thing, but there's ways that one can lower the chances of getting hurt. Just because you ride a motorcycle doesn't mean you should scream down the freeway as fast as you can. One should at least take some precautions when doing dangerous activities, no? Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

I'll readily admit that I'm probably not one to give advice. But don't just thrust me aside as if I know nothing. If anything, I've spent the last week spending all my time trying to get as much information as I can. I have learned more in the last week about skydiving, than I have in the last month in school. My response was based upon what others of this place have told me, and what I've researched. I even said at the end of my last post, it's best to get a response from more experienced jumpers. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

True, put in that terms, it does sound like a whuffo's P.O.V. But what I'm saying, isn't anything to the extreme. People have said there are other means by which one can gain sufficient speed to do swooping. From what I've been told, many of the injuries at the jump zones come from people trying to do hook turns while too low to the ground. I'm not saying that people shouldn't go fast, but if in two days, more people have gotten hurt doing hook turns while low than anything else reported, that's just dumb. And in response to your sarcasm, if skydiving was so dangerous that perfectly good parachutes and skydivers were getting hurt about 2-3 times a day doing textbook/safe landings, I wouldn't be into the sport as it is. But, hey, I'm really new to this, so I could be all wrong. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

Well, I'm in your category, I've only about 10 jumps. My exit weights about the same as yours (~180) and I jump a Triathalon 190. So a 170 isn't gonna be all that dangerous for you. Just be prepared to notice a HUGE difference in maneuverability and speed. Going from 280 to 170 would be something wholley new. I jump in Lodi, CA at the Parachute Center, if you're gonna be heading in that direction. People there are really nice and very helpful. But, like I said, I'm still very new at this, and it can never hurt to get response from more experienced jumpers. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

But, basically, there are better and safer ways than doing hook turns. At this stage in the game, I'm not too interested in swooping, I'm trying to figure out the benefits of hook turns when they're so dangerous. If there's more ways of swooping than hooking, why do it? So many people get hurt because of it. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.
-
Is there a better way to swoop than doing hook turns? Or at least a safer way? I can't see how that genre could get so popular if you have about 2-3 injuries per week. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.
-
Well, first off, I don't know what a hooked turn is. But from all I've seen, they appear to be really dangerous. Just since yesterday I've read reports of about 2-3 people injured from doing hooked turns (Or something to that effect) too low. Why are so many people doing this kind of thing? If these turns are so dangerous, what's the advantange? I'm assuming it's the thrill of a fast turn, or harsh turn, but even still... that's no excuse to sacrifice safety for a little speed. That's what freefall's for. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

In MyDZ, under my control panel and Message Box, it says for Recieved Private Messages that I have 0 Total and 1 Unread. I click on the Recieved Private Messages and the whole thing is blank. I could be missing something, being 16 yrs old, I'm prone to a lot of mistakes due to ignorance, but you might wanna check up on this. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?- well, that comes from poor judgement.

The problem with bleach is that it would bleed the red, no? Then he'd just have a pink and red jumpsuit. Ask an old lady if you find one. Old ladies always seem to know the answer. Good judgement comes from experience, and experience?---well, that comes from poor judgement.
