Just because he has survived does not mean it is the right canopy for him. if he happens to get into any sub-optimal conditions i would rather err on the side of caution. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com

a 190 non-eliptical main and 190 reserve should work well. if the main is ZP so much the better. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com

i would strongly recommend a 210. there is no rush to down size. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com

i would strongly recommend a 170 reserve if you are getting a 170 main. if you are unlucky enough to have both out the similar line lenghts is much safer. in addition if you do have a reserve ride that is not the time to jump a 150 for the first time. I have jumped a lotus since it came out and love it. they are very hard to find used. $1250 is definatly reasonable. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com

a sabre 135 fit fit loosly but nicely in a J-1 as long as its a J-1 Ks not a J-1 kL. the KL is made to fit a 170 and it will be much looser. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com

the spectre is a substantially more docile canopy than the stiletto. most spectre pilots seem to be camera fliers, wing suit jumpers, jumpers with past injuries, and people who just want a soft opening, easy to land canopy. the stiletto was one of the first high performance eliptical 9-cell canopies and has been replaced by the katana. the hornet 150 has a pack volume of 335. it will pack pretty loosely. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com

I would definatly buy a used rig if you can find one that fits. look for a 170-190 main and reserve with a relatively new container that fits you well. if the main is tight in the container you will be able to downsize twice without haveing to buy a new container. if you can find a used cypres that would save you some money, if not get a cypres 2 becuse it will save you money on batteries inthe long run. fell free to call me if you have any more quesions.
