  1. Just because he has survived does not mean it is the right canopy for him. if he happens to get into any sub-optimal conditions i would rather err on the side of caution. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  2. a 190 non-eliptical main and 190 reserve should work well. if the main is ZP so much the better. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  3. i would strongly recommend a 210. there is no rush to down size. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  4. i would strongly recommend a 170 reserve if you are getting a 170 main. if you are unlucky enough to have both out the similar line lenghts is much safer. in addition if you do have a reserve ride that is not the time to jump a 150 for the first time. 5. I have jumped a lotus since it came out and love it. they are very hard to find used. $1250 is definatly reasonable. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  6. a sabre 135 fit fit loosly but nicely in a J-1 as long as its a J-1 Ks not a J-1 kL. the KL is made to fit a 170 and it will be much looser. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  7. the spectre is a substantially more docile canopy than the stiletto. most spectre pilots seem to be camera fliers, wing suit jumpers, jumpers with past injuries, and people who just want a soft opening, easy to land canopy. the stiletto was one of the first high performance eliptical 9-cell canopies and has been replaced by the katana. 8. the hornet 150 has a pack volume of 335. it will pack pretty loosely. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  9. I would definatly buy a used rig if you can find one that fits. look for a 170-190 main and reserve with a relatively new container that fits you well. if the main is tight in the container you will be able to downsize twice without haveing to buy a new container. if you can find a used cypres that would save you some money, if not get a cypres 2 becuse it will save you money on batteries inthe long run. fell free to call me if you have any more quesions. 10. i owned a wings container and liked it very much. they are a tremendous value for the money. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  11. altimaster V's are junk!!! David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  12. More power to you if you can get $3500 for a used rig, i am just telling you what i have gleaned from personal experience. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  13. I am very interested in what you feel the difference is? please explain!! David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  14. the spectre is the softest opening canopy i know of. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  15. Don't chance it!!!! just get it done!!! David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  16. I live by the rule that you should treat your rigger like gold, it literally may save your life. A good rigger's time is worth at least $40-50/hour!!! David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  17. I will bet you that if you demo a Samurai also you will it better that either of them. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  18. The tempo is a perfectly good canopy, but it does not have as much reinforment as the PD or Aerodyne Strong reserve. so i would not buy one with more than 2 or 3 deployments on it. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  19. Your best bet if you are going to buy a used container is to download an order form from the appropriate manufacturer and get measured as if you were going to buy a new one. that way you will buy the correct harness size. all the manufacturers web sites have sizing charts for canopies and containers. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  20. I have purchsed tons of gear from dz.com and ebay and have had a few problem, but not many. if you want to be safe have the individual you are dealing with coordinate the sale through his dropzone or rigger. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  21. the javelin is worth $800-1200, the sabre $800-1000 and the reserve $500-600. the cypres if it is 3 years old with a 1 year old battery is worth $550-650. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  22. A dry plastic bristle brush and a shopvac works great. for really dirty containers, take out the reserve, main, and cypres and clean it with a high pressure hose with NO SOAP!!! as a last resort warm water and woolite, but be sure to rinse it extremely well. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  23. 1. I would not spray it with anything not recommended by the manufacturer 2. don't leave it in the sun. 3. don't crash and burn on landing. 4. let any durt you do get on it dry and then use a shopvac and a dry plastic britstle brush to get it off. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  24. If you have not gotten completely bored with your current canopy and have done everything possible with it why downsize? David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
  25. I would strongly recommend buying a reserve close to the size of your main. If you are ever unlucky enough to have 2 out it is much safer to have 2 canopies with similar line lengths. also if you are used to flying a 210 you don't want to have to fly a 160 in less than optimal conditions.
