Why do cops confiscate BASE rigs
michaeljanzen replied to freefalle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
if you kill a deer out of season you lose your vehicle and your gun. The reason they keep it even after it has been used against you in court as evidence is to discourage others from risking so much. the risk of losing your gear is to hopefully discourage some people from going ahead with the jump. however to most BASE jumpers the thrill of getting away with it is part of the rush. right or wrong they take your gear, I don't make the rules -- yet. i made my FIRST HEADDOWN jump yesterday "the sweet just aint as sweet without the bitter "

on my 21st jump i went from a falcon 235 to a sabre 150 with an exit weight of 170 and i did just fine it all depends on your abilities. just know this - first jump on the smaller canopy try to hit the peas and plf rather than try to stand up a landing on the solid frozen ground. What was your favorite movie growing up as a kid?
michaeljanzen replied to Rookeskydiver's topic in The Bonfire
The Princess Bride was and will always be my favorite movie of all time. "the sweet just aint as sweet without the bitter " -
i weigh 160 lbs. and i jumped a student gear (manta 288) first jump till #16 then went to student gear (falcon 235) untill #22 when i bought my sabre 150 had to re-finance my truck to pay for it but it's been worth it. i got a javelin container, sabre main, microraven reserve, and cypres with only 100 jumps for 3k. i ordered my suit 2 weeks ago and have had the best experience in the ordering process, but what i want to know is how is the suit holding up? i have heard they look great and are well built but no one has commented on how they are holding up after say 20 jumps or so. can't wait for it to show up because i have so many people who want to see it then they will probably buy one too. (149$ including shipping is an awesome price) "the sweet just aint as sweet without the bitter "

You didn't think that the reserve parachute never malfunctioned did you? _________________________________________________ I realize your reserve can malfunction i was only saying your main is more likely to malfunction than your reserve. "the sweet just aint as sweet without the bitter "

Here is my question - if jumping and pulling your reserve before trying your main is so dangerous why are students told " in case of a low altitude plane emergency put your hands on the reserve handle, get out, and as you pass the tail pull the reserve" why don't we teach to go for the main? Isn't the reserve inspected and repacked by a rigger every 120 days and the main is just repacked by the owner? seems to me that the reserve would be more reliable than the main. if it's not why the hell am i trusting my life to it in case i have a bad day and do a shitty pack job. i personally think a 9mm is a pud gun what a waste of gunpowder and lead. i love my glock 21 (.45 for those who don't know) my glock and i have gone thru alot together - rain, sleet, snow, dirt, mud, cold, heat & anything else you can imagine and it still shoots as perfect as the day i bought it. i have an entire room dedicated to guns. before i found skydiving i had to reload ammo at least 2 hrs. every night after work to keep up with my weekend shooting adventures. owning 180 acres is awesome some day i would like to have a chute and shoot - "the sweet just aint as sweet without the bitter "

I was a very stressed out person full of anger and hate until I started skydiving. I loved how in freefall you are totally free, nothing matters like - the phone bill is late, or some criminal got out of prison because of some technicality, or your job sucks - so what. You don’t have to worry about any of that. I started jumping as much as I could to get that feeling - nothing else matters - I wished I could live my entire life in that moment but 60 seconds is up before you know it. then one day it just clicked. live my life to the fullest. find the people I love and pull them close, find the things I love to do and do them as much as I can, no matter the price, don’t worry about the things I have no control over. I still go to work. I just let things go how they want it. put in my 8 hours and go home and enjoy my time with my family instead of stressing out about what happened during the day. I still pay my bills as soon as I have the money in my bank. late is better than a returned check charge. I also never watch the news if something happens as long as it doesn’t affect those close to me - I don’t care and don’t need to stress out about it. I love skydiving and the people involved in it. I just think it is awesome that I can sit in a plane with less than 50 jumps and look across from me and know that guy with thousands of jumps and I are in some way equal he won’t talk down to me when I ask a question. Some days I am glad there are people too afraid to jump because that keeps the line shorter for me. But I still wish everyone would try it just once. What are some of the dumbest things you have done with Fireworks?
michaeljanzen replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
next to skydiving and guns, fireworks are my life here is an awesome thing to do : 1. get an empty coffee can 2. open 3 gross of bottle rockets (1 gross = 12 packs of 12) 3. put them into the can sticks down 4. spread them around 360 degrees to make a "V" in the center. 5. cut the top of an artillery shell 6. pour contents onto bottle rockets 7. pull out the fuse from the artillery shell and hang it over the edge (get it far enough into the bottom of the can) 8. light it and run it's cool in the day or night but for looks do it in the dark - "the sweet just aint as sweet without the bitter " -
i don't see why so many people say "i would because i have nothing to hide" why is it this country believes that trading some of our basic rights to feel safer is a good idea. if we all start giving up a little bit of our rights, then a little more then more and more - eventually we will have none. don't get me wrong i hope they catch this guy before anyone else gets hurt. but follow the rules. do it they way it is set up in our bill of rights don't take short cuts. - "the sweet just aint as sweet without the bitter "

i wanted to tell you about the time i fell for something like that. they called me and said you won our drawing we had set up in the mall and you have the choice of trips to hawaii, puerto rico, or cancun. all you have to do is come to this hotel and listen to a 1 hour pitch for our product. i said sounds good so i went. ended up being almost 3 hours and the coupons they gave me were for 3 nights in one of those cities - thats it. you have to get there on your own and pay for all your food and what ever else you want to do. not even great hotels more like motels. anyway maybe yours will be diffrent sounds good (too good) - "the sweet just aint as sweet without the bitter "

i fly a sabre 150 and i have never had a hard opening i put 4 - 5 rolls in the nose and push it in as far as possible letting the tail drop down around it then i pull the slider out and roll the tail until i cant roll it any more- also my openings are always within 15 degrees of on heading - "the sweet just aint as sweet without the bitter "

i would like to tell you i am the exact opposite i got into a sit first try and held it 90% of the freefall. by 3 trys i could rotate and flip any direction in and out of a stable sit. but for the life of me i can't stand. 4 trys now and as soon as i drop my legs i'm outta control. - "the sweet just aint as sweet without the bitter "
